Dolphin Cottage description

Holiday home
This imposing, detached house is situated at the centre of the small fishing village of Flookburgh. Ideally located in the heart of the Lake District Peninsula and just two miles from Cartmel, this former fisherman's cottage has been lovingly modernised and furnished to an exceptionally high standard in order to provide visitors with a spacious holiday home. With a snug sitting room containing a wood-burning stove, a well-appointed kitchen and a rear courtyard boasting table tennis and a lovely decked area, this property provides the perfect opportunity for guests to enjoy al fresco dining. Flookburgh's 18th Century pub is close by, as is the Cumbria Coastal Path and many other great activities.

Located within the magnificent Lake District and idyllically set on the shores of Morecambe Bay is the pretty village of Flookburgh. Named after the locally caught Flukes fish, this little settlement was once a popular resting point along the road to Morecambe Bay. Nowadays, the town provides a haven for cockle and shrimp fishers as well as a choice of welcoming pubs. The Cumbria Coastal Path runs close by and presents visitors with superb walking and nature watching opportunities. Historic Cartmel is just two miles away and has been called the prettiest village in the Lakes due to its quaint cobbled streets, antique shops, traditional pubs and the Michelin Star awarded L'Enclume restaurant. The nearby Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands offers visitors the chance to enjoy a traffic-free promenade in addition to delightful ornamental gardens and a choice of golf courses.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Had a really great week in the Lake District! Dolphin Cottage is in a good location for Lake Windermere, with plenty of space for 12 adults and we would visit again.

We all thought the facilities at Dolphin Cottage were excellent. The bedrooms and bathrooms were large, clean and modern. The kitchen and dining areas were were well maintained and spacious. The cottage itself is set within a picturesque village. We commend the outside areas of the cottage which were spacious and provided more than enough room for BBQs and off road parking. Overall our experience was excellent and we would recommend to a large group visiting the lakes.

The property was large enough for three generations to holiday together without getting under each others feet. Plenty of space in all the rooms and very clean and tidy. Lots of games to play in the evenings and the WIFI connection was brilliant for my teenage daughter to do her homework.

Very close to South Lakes - many interesting places within easy reach. The availability of the train was an added advantage.

October 2010
The cottage comfortably accommodated all 10 members of our 'Book Group' and gave us a good base for walking, relaxing and sharing a few bottles of wine! As a group of 50-something professional females we had high standards of comfort and cleanliness, happily these were met in Dolphin Cottage. The weather was fantastic for October and this added to the enjoyment.
Mrs Benson

Nice big dining room so that we could all eat together. The little quiet lounge on the top floor was ideal for those who didn't want to watch TV. The village was lively and friendly and not just full of tourists.

Good location. Ample space for 6 people. Secure garden for the dogs. Very flexible with our requests. Sykes did not just discard our requests as other sites had done. They made enquiries with the owner and helped us to ensure our holiday was possible. Rapid response to our queries.

The house is lovely and big and the rooms very spacious, three generations of family stayed here and there was plenty of room, The upstairs sitting room was a real bonus for the teenagers. It is so close to the lakes and Grange over sands is good for shopping, and within a few minutes walk is a small shop and takeaway.
June 2012
easy key collection shops & pubs close by big kitchen 5 bedrooms worked well for us..need to tell clients to take a cheque for deposit...if we had we would not had to get in touch with the owner to get our money back they would not have cashed the cheque
September 2014
The cottage was clean and roomy, we were a family party of eleven, ages From 11 to 70. The village had an excellent chip shop and two pubs, the table tennis table was a bonus and enjoyed by all ages. A good spot for visiting the Lakes.

This cottage was not as described on the website, it was unclean and in need of a lot of maintainance to bring it to the standard described. The outside area was an either or situation in that if you parked 4 cars there was no room for children to play or alfresco dining. We had to weed the garden as it was full of nettles and the table tennis area was full of debri and broken flags. We had a dog and young children with us and they could quite easily escape through the gate. The kitchen was filthy and greasy . Some of the dining chairs were damaged and a few of the blinds were broken . We left early as we also saw mice in the lounge area. The shower in the top bathroom ran only cold water and the cistern in the first floor bathroom took 15 minutes to fill.
October 2011
All the family enjoyed staying at this house and the village location. We found that the room layouts worked well and the grandchildren[ aged 4 to 10] rated it the best hide and seek house ever
December 2009
Have been dealing with Sykes for the last 5 years and I have to say that the experience has been superb. Polite and helpful staff a real pleasure. This was our first visit to the Lake District and it was a fantastic time, the weather was excellent and the local facilities in Flookburgh were spot on. The local people were friendly and helpful which only adds to the experience. Well done Skyes for providing us with an excellent home from home.
