East Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
East Cottage is a charming semi-detached cottage in Church Stretton. It has a double room with en-suite bathroom and two twins. There is a family shower room, anda ground floor cloakroom. The kitchen has a breakfast area, and the sitting room has a dining area and cosy gas fire. Outside is off road parking for two cars, and a front patio area with furniture. East Cottage is a wonderful base for families, friends or walkers to enjoy the town and its beautiful surroundings.

Church Stretton is a pretty market town in the heart of rural south Shropshire. Described as "Little Switzerland", the town is surrounded by stunning scenery and is the major part of Shropshire's hill country. The town offers a good selection of pubs, tearooms, and specialist shops, as well as other attractions including fantastic walking opportunities on the Long Mynd; the fascinating Acton Scott Working Farm, and the ancient Stokesay Castle. Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bishops Castle are all historic local towns with much to offer to visitors, and they are all an easy drive away from Church Stretton, as are the beautiful Welsh Borders.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Gas central heating with gas stove in sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, DVD, WiFi. Fuel and power inc. in rent. The cottage is situated on a lovely private road with beautiful flowering shrubs and trees with very melodic birdsong. The property is very accessible for shops, restaurants and pubs but also lanes that lead directly to hills and woods. It was a comfortable, large and well equipped cottage. Everyone we met in the town were friendly and always willing to stop and chat.
Mrs Byford

We loved it! The cottage had everything needed. East Cottage was in a superb location for walking and popping into Church Stretton, and a short trip to Ludlow. We definitely hope to return very soon!

Perfect location close to the centre of Church Stretton. Very comfortable cottage with all facilities in perfect working order. Cosy with good gas fired central heating and an additional excellent wood burner style gas fire, ideal for this time of year. Provision of hand wash in all bathrooms and kitchen was very much appreciated.

We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your cottage and our visit to Church Stretton. We were in 3 different cottages during our trip and yours was voted the best. We would highly recommend it. Thank-you for the lovely gluten free cake (I wish I had that recipe) and the other goodies that welcomed us.

The standard of the cottage was excellent. Its position is brilliant, meaning you can walk from the door into town in 5 minutes, or up the Long Mynd in 2 hours depending on your fitness level!

November 2013
The cottage location near the centre of Church Stretton and the Longmynd makes it easy to access the local facilities and to walk the hills without needing to drive (at least for a couple of days). The cottage itself was excellent, and is fully recommended to anyone wishing to experience the quiet of the Shropshire Hills. The wireless broadband at the cottage was excellent.

We had a fantastic holiday in Shropshire. We all found our week very relaxing in such beautiful scenery. East Cottage is in a great location, stunning countryside around but also able to walk into Church Stretton to access amenities and reach Shrewsbury and Ludlow with ease. The cottage was great. It was clean and very spacious. The facilities were excellent. The owners made us feel most welcome. We would all love to return to Shropshire and stay in East Cottage again as we loved it so much. It was one of the nicest holiday cottages we have stayed in.

The cottage was far larger than the photos led us to expect. The location is extremely quiet but convenient and with a lovely outlook. We particularly liked the number of hooks on the backs of doors etc. and towel rails in the kitchen.

April 2013
The cottage was first class, could not fault it in any way. The location was brilliant, close to all amenities and the outlook was lovely. We were 6 adults and we all had an excellent time. The cottage was lovely, it was warm and felt friendly. The owners came to check if everything was ok and it was lovely they took the time to come and see us. The little touches made all the difference, the biscuits went down a treat!

December 2012
The cottage was well appointed and felt very comfortable and well thought out. I could imagine myself living there which is a sure sign that I particularly like a holiday accommodation. There was lots of space for two couples and two teenage children to stay without feeling on top of each other. The area was lovely with lots of walking and good pubs on the doorstep as well as nice towns to visit. A great way to spend the Christmas week.
Mrs Harasimow
November 2012
Great cosy cottage with character and warmth! Ideally located just a few minutes walk into the lovely historic market town Church Stretton. Excellent places to eat and a big choice. Great deli selling brilliant cheese, etc. Carding Mill Valley walk five minutes from cottage and well worth going. National Trust tea rooms en route selling beautiful home made cakes, sandwiches and lovely little shop too. The walks are as far as you want with the most stunning scenery. Would definitely recommend this lovely cottage. We will be back x

Everything was first class.
June 2015
Stayed for one week on walking and sightseeing holiday. Beautiful cottage and situation. We were so lucky to have the best week of weather this year. The cottage is very spacious and great for a larger family with everything you would require. Welcome goodies awaited us on arrival, Shrewsbury biscuits and Bara Brith . Plenty of short circular walks, strolls in the nearby wood, or longer hill rambles, your choice. Market town with every shop, pub or restaurant that you could possibly want. Very handy for visiting one way Ludlow by train or car and Shrewsbury the other. We liked Ludlow the best.

This cottage is well equipped to a high standard. It is clean and comfortable and warm. Owners are friendly and made us feel welcome. The location is very central. A 5 minute walk takes one to the amenities of Church Stretton and a 10 minute walk into the valleys of the Long Mynd from where there are many miles of happy walking. Also central for public transport being only 10 minutes walk from the station.
October 2013
We stayed in East Cottage as a base for a walking holiday. Having stayed in Church Stretton in the past we knew this would be a good location and were not disappointed. What we had not expected was just how good the cottage would be - facilities were great with everything we could have asked for, plenty of space and spotlessly clean. It would be really hard to find fault with the cottage - perhaps the only thing I would have changed was that the beds were rather soft for me but imagine others would find them perfect.
June 2014
Stayed in the cottage for two weeks with my wife and 3 friends for a walking holiday in Shropshire. The cottage photos are slightly misleading in that the cottage is double fronted so we got twice the accommodation we were expecting. Beautiful, charming old cottage with more than enough space for 5 of us to amble around without getting in each other's way .Large kitchen, large living room/dining room, ample bedroom space - we loved it. Parking for 2 cars and a paved area out front with a table and chairs - perfect for a coffee ( or a G and T ) on returning "home" after a walk. in the hills. I must mention the surrounding area which is great for walking - as easy or as difficult as you like. We ran out of time to do all the walks we wanted, so plans are afoot to return. The holiday weather was virtually unbroken sunshine for two weeks. The owners popped in and made themselves known to us, kindly giving contact details in the event of problems and the neighbours were very sociable and kind. Fabulous fortnight.
May 2013
We thoroughly enjoyed our short break in theis spacious and well equipped cottage. Everything tis there that you could possibly need. The furnitues and furnishings were lovely and it was well kept and very clean. Many thanks to the owners for the very nice cakes on arrival. We would love to stay there again in the summer months as ours was a late winter/early spring break...although the temperature today isn't very different !
April 2013
We were really pleased with everything about this holiday cottage. Made most welcome by the owners on arrival, everything was there that was needed. Lovely walks from the door from gentle to fairly strenuous. The weather was very cold but the cottage was lovely and warm. The town has everything needed. We're hoping to book again, but there was one downside - the week went far too quickly and leaving day came too soon!
December 2012
excellent cottage in centre of church stretton with lovley shops and walks
March 2013
We stayed in this cottage for one week & loved it - it has great character. Although it is old, it nonetheless is very spacious with a large living room with a dining table, kitchen complete with breakfast area & 3 large bedrooms, one with en-suite facilities. It is situated in a lovely area with great views to the hills. Entry on arrival was by prior arrangement with the owners who met us & were very helpful. There is a large 'boot room' adjoining the kitchen so is perfect for walkers. It is ideally placed for walking the hills around Church Stretton, with the Long Mynd virtually at the back door. There is off-road parking for 2 cars. The main town is only 5 minutes walk away where there are shops, restaurants & pubs etc. Church Stretton itself is also ideally located for visiting Ludlow or Shrewbury (both can be reached by train in about 15 - 20 mins), Much Wenlock (about 20 mins by car) & Ironbridge (about 30 mins by car). We visited all of these & they are definitely worth making time to see if you can. We would certainly stay at East Cottage again.

The cottage was excellent and just how it looked in the pictures. We will definitely go there again. The location was brilliant and just a few yards in to town, but quiet as on a private road. Lots to see and do in a very pleasant part of the country
