Firkin Cottage Cottage description

Holiday home
Firkin Cottage is a beautifully decorated semi-detached holiday home featuring stripped wood floors, exposed beams and a pretty courtyard with a garden room and water feature. This charming cottage nestles in an "Olde Worlde" lane in the heart of Wymondham. The town draws visitors because of its impressive architecture, dominated by the 12th Century Abbey and a striking Norman cathedral. The cobbled streets are lined with incredible Tudor buildings, restaurants and hospitable pubs, and during the summer the locals open their gardens to the public. The city of Norwich is nine miles away, with its medieval alleys, winding lanes and constant round of music, art and beer festivals. A shopper's heaven, Norwich is acknowledged as one of the top five shopping centres in the UK, with its choice of eclectic shops and big name stores.

Norwich is one of the best places to shop in Britain, and offers a year round programme of festivals and vibrant nightlife. This medieval city offers a combination of historic buildings and modern architecture with plenty for all the family to see and do. The restored 19th Century railway station features a great gift shop, a fascinating museum and a "Brief Encounter" themed restaurant. The picturesque town of Wymondham is just eight miles from Norwich and has many historic buildings including Wymondham Abbey, one of the finest and most fascinating historic churches in East Anglia. Wymondham holds busy weekly markets and in the fine summer months visitors can enjoy the beautiful gardens that are open to all.

Picturesque rolling Fens, unspoilt beaches, and pretty waterways – East Anglia is a dream holiday destination. Norfolk offers beaches, saltmarshes and quaint villages whilst equally as charming are the coast and countryside of Suffolk.

Firkin Cottage was a lovely little cottage, with everything you could possibly want. The position of the cottage was in an ideal position, just off the high street of a wonderful little town with very friendly people. We had a very warm welcome. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anybody.

The quality of everything in the cottage was second to none. You wanted for nothing; the owner had provided everything you could need, from butter dish to first aid kit. The place was spotless and the garden, although small was perfectly formed and tended beautifully. There was always lots of hot water and the bathroom was a delight. The location of the cottage was great. The owner was simply the best, the most helpful of people and only a phone call away if needed. I would recommend Firkin Cottage in a heartbeat. It was probably the cleanest place I have ever stayed in.

A very comfortable cottage with adequate space for relaxing, different areas to eat, and a quiet garden room for reading and thinking. The area is very quiet too and in one of the picturesque areas of Wymondham. In the town are plenty of places to eat or buy take away meals. Plenty of sights in the town, too, which add to the number of places in the county to go and enjoy.
Miss Chaplin

We have been holidaying in cottages in the UK for nigh on 40 years and we found our reception by the owner of the cottage to be the warmest, most helpful and most generous of any greetings we have ever received. Thank you! The cottage is situated in the middle of the old town and is in convenient walking distance for shops, restaurants and pubs. A very friendly town where we were were warmly welcomed into the fold.

Elegant but cosy cottage, which seemed more worthy of a 'four' rating than the 'three' currently awarded. Impressive attention to detail by the owner. Located in a fascinating town with plenty of historical interest, some well-run tea rooms and a full set of amenities.

January 2014
What a delightful little cottage this is! It was equipped with everything we needed, cosy, comfortable and amazingly quiet. The owner was helpfulness personified, with a cheery greeting, warm welcome and for whom nothing was too much trouble. The charming little town of Wyndham had all the amenities needed for our stay. The only negative was the lack of parking, although there was plenty of room available about two minutes' walk away - just a little inconvenient when loading and unloading, but a small price to pay taking everything into consideration. Being just a few minutes away from Norwich, this was an ideal location for exploring Norfolk.
December 2014
just spent three wonderful weeks in firkin cottage wymondham. warm and comfortable with everything we needed and more. comfortable bed, beautiful bed linen, well equipped kitchen with quality crockery, pots and pans. two minutes from shops where we could buy everything we needed.regular bus service to norwich and surrounding villages. will certainly come again.from the moment we arrived to the moment we left we cannot think of anything at all negative about our stay. pauline you couldn't have done any more for us. thank you for the wine and biscuits they were much appreciated . our stay was extra special with the birth of our granddaughter lily.
June 2015
We very much enjoyed staying at Firkin Cottage. We've already booked it again for Christmas, so I guess that says something. The kitchen, bathroom, main bedroom and living room are spacious. The bed, sofa and armchair were all comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. The courtyard was delightful on the one evening when we were free to sit in it. Wifi worked well. Shops are 5 or 6 minutes walk away. We parked at the end of Damgate furthest from the town centre because it's unrestricted there. Both Pauline Ware, the owner, and Richard, her assistant, are very friendly and helpful.
Mr Crowther
August 2007
Easy access to shops and very helpful Tourist Information office in the Market square. Good access to major roads in all directions that enabled us to visit many parts of Norfolk. Very well equipped kitchen with good quality equipment enabled us to cook for ourselves.
November 2014
Had a very warm welcome from Pauline. Cottage was immaculate. Nice and cosy. Didn't manage to make use of the Garden room, but can imagine it would be perfect in the summer for dining or just relaxing in. Local area has lots to offer too, do visit Thetford Forest if you get the chance and Pizzaeria Bellow in Attleborough about 10 mins away, superb Italian food.
September 2014
What a lovely place to stay the cottage had everything in it that you could ask for and more Friendly owner to and very helpful , would highly recommend a stay here a lot better than the hotels wymondham has to offer .
August 2011
Very friendly host who was kind enough to pick us up at the station even though we had several big bags. She even took us on a quick tour of the town! The cottage was very well furnished, a good kitchen with all the equipment we needed, TV and radio, Dvd's, extra books and games. The stairs were rather steep it's true, but that was part of the atmosphere. Coming from New Zealand, we found the age of the cottage particularly charming, yet the modern amenities were well put in: showers, etc, dishwasher, plenty of good china There were plenty of brochures and maps and comfortable seats too. Close enough to shops and transport to walk in 5 minutes. The only downside was the weather which was not always summery, but Wymondham was interesting in itself and a good centre for exploring Norfolk Probably the best of all the cottages we used in our 3 months in England and Europe
October 2011
very warm welcome.we really enjoyed our stay there.we felt very at home there.
May 2013
Firkin Cottage was beautifully furnished to the highest standards. Of particular note was the Garden Room containing full dining equipment; we had all our meals there. The beds were very comfortable and the owner had provided for every need. She even met us at the railway station and gave us a tour of the town! Being reliant on public transport was no problem, with frequent buses to Norwich and trains to Cambridge and Ely, as well as the nostalgic Steam Railway experience! We would recommend the Mad Hatter's teashop and Merv's bakery!
December 2009
The property is furnished to an extremely high standard. A lovely welcome pack on arrival. Everything was high quality and comfortable. Would have no hesitation in recommending this property. Courtyard garden and sun room are added features.
December 2009
what a beautiful cottage, met by Pauline who was so helpful and friendly (she even helped us unload the car). We had such a relaxed holiday with the cottage providing the peace and quiet we needed. will definately stay again
