Gabby Cottage description

Holiday home
On the outskirts of the village of Christon Bank, just a five minute drive from the wonderful beaches of the Northumbrian Heritage Coast, lies the traditional stone built farm dwelling called Gabby Cottage. Offering tasteful, comfortable accommodation, this lovely little cottage boasts an open fire and multi-fuel stove as well as an established garden - making it great for visits throughout the year. Able to sleep a total of six people, this property is a great home-from-home for anyone looking to explore the wide rolling hills and fantastic activities this region has to offer.

Eight miles north of Northumberland's picturesque market town of Alnwick, likes the charming village of Christon Bank. Not only are Alnwick's beautiful castle and gardens close at hand, but visitors to the area are also only a mere two miles from the lovely bays at Embleton and Low Newton by the sea. These wonderful bays lay on a strip of unspoiled sandy beaches and are only a brief drive from the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, and the other nature-rich Farne Islands. Set in the rolling hills, this lovely little village has a traditional, real ale pub, which also serves food, but for more variety of cuisine, the neighbouring villages also host a number of excellent restaurants. The Scottish Borders are within easy reach, as is the lively cosmopolitan city of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

Have just come home from the most memorable weekend away at Gabby Cottage in Christon Bank. On arrival what a lovely surprise to find two full vases of fresh flowers, bottle of white wine, Organic eggs and bacon, coffee, freshly baked bread and teabags etc. The attention to detail was just superb and the cottage is equipped to a very high standard. The weather has been superb and we were sad to leave. Would highly recommend this property to all. We all absolutely loved the cottage. Thank you to the owner for excellent service.

Our 5th holiday with Sykes and our 3rd stay at Gabby Cottage. The area is so pretty and unspoilt. And the long and empty sandy beaches are some of the best in the country. The people are also incredibly welcoming and friendly. We plan to retire to this area of Northumberland!

It was a very well presented cottage with character and very well equipped. It had a garden. We cannot fault it at all. There was a very friendly pub just up the road and lovely beaches nearby. Thank you very much we really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back as we did not have time to do everything we wanted as there is so much to do and see in the area.

Gabby Cottage is in an excellent location - handy for Alnwick Seahouses and Bamburgh. There are also excellent beaches on the doorstep - long, sandy ones and hardly a soul on them! Great for the kids! The surrounding countryside also adds to the idyllic location. Gabby Cottage is very well equipped and has plenty of space for a family.

The property was in an excellent location for touring up and down the A1 which meant we could get easily to all the coast had to offer. The owner was extremely friendly and gave good advice about places to eat etc. The cottage was extremely comfortable and well equipped with good quality furnishings and utensils. Felt like home from home and a pleasure to go back to. Again Sykes cottages have given us very good accommodation. We trust your comments and judgements about properties implicitly!

February 2007
The cottage was very welcoming, as were the owners, who provided good red wine (one of our favourite varieties - they must be telepathic!) and a very thoughtful starter pack of food. The fresh flowers in the kitchen and living room made us feel very much at home and were a lovely finishing touch. We enjoyed a warm, comfortable and relaxing break in a cottage which is well equipped, well placed for exploring the area and good value for money. We are hoping to book again in the future.
August 2013
Accomodation was perfect for a family holiday, well equipped kitchen. We did have a problem with the hot water but one phone call to the landlord and it was sorted within in the day. The location was great, short drive to Low Newton with the excellent Ship Inn pub and beach. Great for exploring Northumberland. Parking wasn't an issue but was on street and the road could be quite busy at times - just needed to keep this in mind with little ones around. All in all a fabulous comfortable stay in a great location.
Mrs Osborn
September 2006

Mr Lomas
April 2006
Good central location, property had everything we needed.
December 2009
Embleton is quiet, but has a shop and a pub, which is everything you need really. We had a week of clear blue skies, and although it was cold this area of Northumbria is beautiful. No towels in the cottage though, is it just me that expects towels? Everything else was great. My favaourite place of the week - Howick Hall Gardens.
December 2009
Nice little cottage with surprisingly large living room and very well-equipped kitchen. Within easy distance of the coast and its many castles/beaches and Alwnich and areas beyond. Owner very thoughtful and helpful - e.g welcome pack on arrival which we didn't expect. We went during October half term and the cottage was warm and cosy. The village of Embleton itself is nothing special but Warkworth, Amble and other towns on the coast are lovely - and the countryside over towards Rothbury (and further south if you venture down to Hadrian's Wall) is stunning. Plenty of eating and shopping in nearby Alnwick, where you can access the A1. We enjoyed our time very much.
