Holly Lodge Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holly Lodge is a conversion of an old detached stable, about one mile from the village of Giggleswick close to Settle, on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. With one double room, one twin and a family bathroom, this cottage can sleep four people. The rest of the accommodation is made up of an open plan living area comprising a fitted kitchen, a dining area and a sitting room. Outside the cottage are a sheltered patio area with garden furniture and a wildlife area to the side of property leading up to small wooded area, as well as off road parking for two cars. With two other cottages on site, Holly Lodge can sleep sixteen people making it suitable for large family groups who want to explore this beautiful part of the country.

Everything, we had a perfect holiday, in a fabulous location. The accommodation was faultless, the owners friendly and thoughtful enough to provide a pint of milk for our arrival. Plenty to see and do locally and further afield. We even had perfect weather! Returned home refreshed, relaxed and happy with our choice. We will definately recommend both Sykes Cottages and the accommodation to our friends and family.
Mrs Lynch
November 2005
The cottage was the best I've stayed in and the owners very friendly. The location was perfect. Just far enough out of the village for that isolated feel with breath taking countryside but near enough to go for provisions. It was fabulous.

Staff at Sykes Holiday Cottages very helpful and efficient, would recommend company and use again ourselves. Property and surrounding area was beautiful. A weekend not long enough, a return visit is on the cards. Owners thoughtful but unobtrusive- great to be able to take the dog.
Dr Taylor
February 2005
The service from Sykes Cottages was very professional and efficient - we have dealt with many cottage agencies and yours was the best! If anything, Holly Lodge surpassed our high expectations. During a cold and snowy week, it provided a warm, cosy and comfortable base for our holiday. The owners were very friendly and helpful. They are to be commended for their imaginative flair in creating such an attractive property.
Mrs James
May 2005

Mr Morton
December 2004
The property was excellent, very well equipped and well maintained.
Mrs Street
December 2004
Our one regret is that we could not stay longer! Holly lodge is the perfect place to stay if you want to de-stress and relax. Well presented and extremely comfortable the lodge felt like home. We enjoyed our visit to the Scar Top caves and a walk through the Ingleton waterfalls is a must! We cooked our own meals at the lodge so we cannot comment on the pubs in the area. We will definately stay at Holly Lodge again in the not too distant future...we hope!
Mr & Mrs Gaye
December 2004
The cottage was ideal in every respect - warm, clean and comfortable. From the cottage we were able to go on lovely walks by just crossing the road whilst other towns were a short drive away. Overall - an excellent week away.
Mr Gilmour
December 2004
Beautiful large picture window let light into the spacious open plan living and dining area. Quality decoration and furnishings and a friendly and helpful owner.
Mr & Mrs Kemp
December 2004
The waterfalls walks were excellent. Having the Scar opposite was very dramatic.
Mr Hill
December 2004
The view from Holly Lodge was absolutely fantastic, overlooking the scar. We have been visiting the Dales for the last 15 years and this property was the best we have come across during that time. It provides easy access to all parts of the Dales and is a very short drive from Settle. Plenty of activities in the area for families and plenty of good walks. We will definitely revisit this accommodation.
August 2014
WELL WORTH A VISIT. Great walks and places to visit. Comfortable cottage with everything you need for an enjoyable holiday.
April 2016
This was a birthday present for my husband, and we stayed for a week in April with 2 dogs. The cottage was clean, quite and provided everything we needed for our stay. We did a lot of walking and visited friends and family whilst there and it all worked well. Nice outside seating in private area (weather permitting). Only 2 things I think would improve a stay there would be a larger kingsize bed (currently a double) and Wifi access. But then again this is just our personal preference. Nice walks from across the road, so no need to take the car every day.
Mr Casey
December 2004
The location was ideal for exploring the Dales and/or Lakes. Great day out at Ingleton Falls.
Mr Munday
December 2004
Holly Lodge is in a peaceful location on top of a hill surrounded by excellent ideal location to relax. Holly Lodge is a high recommendation to couples and families looking for a break from busy towns and citys
April 2014
We have just come back from a week at Holly lodge and we all loved our stay there. Our boys aged 15 and 11 enjoyed the large garden and exploring around the cottage .The garden is shared with two other holiday cottages on site but this really isn't an issue. The cottage is lovely inside very clean and cosy with great views from the large picture windows in the living room. The balcony from the main bedroom has great views and is so peaceful all you can hear is the munching of the sheep! The owner who lives on site was friendly and helpful and just left us to it and kindly let us take two dogs. There are great walks starting right across the road, we would have the dogs on their leads for about 2 minutes before letting them off to explore for miles, it was a lovely walk along the top of the hill to Settle and Giggleswick which took us about 50 minutes, we did this twice and never saw another sole! We went on great walks every day and were amazed as to how quiet the Yorkshire Dales are and the scenery is stunning. We will certainly book Holly Lodge again and again!
June 2013
Holly lodge is situated in a good location with great access to the yorkshire dales for touring or walking. The property itself is spacious well furnished and well equiped making for a very comfortable stay. The views from the holly lodge itself were superb. In conclusion we would highly recomend holly lodge for a stay in the dales.
March 2012
Had a fantastic week at Holly Lodge, the cottage provided everything we needed. We had a small King Charles Cavalier dog with us and the freedom of being able to let her out in the grounds of Holly Lodge was one of the benefits. The walks were superb and the scenery was breathtaking. Unfortunately our last two days were slightly disappointing as the residents from Willow Cottage had two very large dogs (One black and one white, German Shepard type dogs) on a few occasions they came up to the full length window menacingly looking in and growling, this made us weary of letting our dog outside and as this was one of the reasons we booked Holly Lodge, we were left disappointed we weren't able to have the freedom of our own cottage. Holly Lodge is also deceiving regarding the land round about it, it is extremely close to Willow Cottage, but all in all the cottage is beautiful and well equipped for you stay.
February 2011
It was everything we were looking for, nothing was to fault and we would certainly stay there again.
The Woodcocks
August 2011
We were met and then left alone, any needs would have been catered for had they been needed, just what we needed, calm ,peace, and space to walk my g.s.p.and the sheep were friendly too. We would gladly visit again, it was a very special place. Thank you.
September 2011
This was our second trip to Holly Lodge and the property was just as welcoming as on our previous trip. Who knows we might even sign up for a third visit!
September 2011
Very Good spacious accommodation. Large Lounge/Diner. Large double bedroom and comfortable twin room. Surrounding views are lovely. Would definitely return.
November 2010
We had a wonderful stay at Holly Lodge. It was very well equipped and very comfortable. The views were stunning. The walks we had from the cottage were fairly easy after the initial climb up, but certainly worth the effort! I do have to say that the only down side was the entry on to the main road which we found dangerous.
July 2010
Ref 993 so relaxing and quiet, the house was clean and well furnished, would stay again
July 2010
We loved this cottage but found access onto the road dangerous and great care was needed. Beautiful surroundings and very well equiped. Found walking the dog straight from the cottage difficult as there was quite a climb before you reached some flat ground which may pose a problem for elderly.
February 2010
A really excellent cottage very handy for the Three Peaks, Ingleton Falls, Trough of Bowland, and a whole host of other great walks. The cottage was very comfortable, well-equipped, snug and warm, with lovely views over to the moors and sheep grazing in the nearby fields. Handy for Settle and Giggleswick and the very friendly pub (with wifi) just down the road, with a good choice of meals. One of the best cottages I have stayed in. Friendly and welcoming owner. Although it poured down for most of our November week (while Cockermouth flooded) we still had a wonderful time, thanks to the warmth and comfort of our country cottage. The service from staff at Sykes Cottages was also outstanding - thank you for a really enjoyable holiday.
December 2009
The cottage was lovely, we felt away from it all although we weren't that far from town. Although the owners were on site and available if needed, they were not intrusive. Location was beautiful, although the photo above gives the impression of more land around it than there is. Slightly better directions would have been helpful when finding then place.
December 2009
I keep recieving emails asking me for a review. I have already done this and my comments are actually on the web page advertising the cottage. Pls update your records accordingly.
Britta and family
December 2009
We came the long way from Germany and were absolutely happy with the house. It's well equipped with everything you need. The whole place is very beautiful and furnished in a great taste. The views out of the windows were marvellous. We had two wonderful rainy days on the sofa and enjoyed the countryside through the windows. It was also a good base to explore the area. It is the nicest house we ever had.
December 2009
We throughly enjoyed our stay at Holly Lodge, it is a fantastic cottage very welcoming and homely, it has everything you could possibly need during your stay. The owner was lovely and after settling us in left us to it, it had recently snowed a lot but this just added to the fun! i would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to return again sometime soon!
