The Barn and the views from it were outstanding, couldn't fault it, everything was perfect. Definitely go back again and would recommend it to anyone.

Very comfortable, cosy cottage with excellent views and a central location for both the Lakes and Dales. Every need had been considered and catered for.

This was a fantastic cottage. The accommodation was wonderful with a homely but modern feel to it. The information about the local area was excellent with numerous leaflets available. The kitchen facilities were beyond my normal experience. The location is brilliant for those who want to visit both Dales and Lakes. My 14 year old son and I both rate this 5 star and will return asap.

Simply relaxing, you couldn't want for anything more. The owners have thought of everything. We enjoyed the whole experience and would happily return and recommend to all our friends.

I would give it 4 stars as it is so cosy, comfortable and well-equipped. We loved the setting with fabulous views and easy access to the village, with a shop and a pub, and super local walks along the River Lune and other places ideal for easy or more strenuous walks. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and given assistance when we requested it. All in all a very nice place to stay and we want to return.

We loved the setting, ideal for access to the Lake District and also Lancashire and Yorkshire. Peaceful and in the countryside, yet within easy reach of Lancaster. Lovely old property. Great for our short break. Lovely walks to be had right on the doorstep.

Everything that we needed was there. It was comfortable with plenty of space. Well situated in a beautiful part of England. We really enjoyed our stay.

Howard's Barn was a really convenient place to stay for exploring the lakes. As a foodie, I was very impressed with the kitchen; it is probably the first time I have stayed in self-catering with really good sharp knives (something I'm very fussy about as a cook!). There were also some terrific restaurants within a few miles. We could quite happily have stayed on for another week!

The barn was just right for two people cosy and warm - the pictures don't do it justice.

Our stay at Howard's Barn was absolutely lovely. The cottage is gorgeous - huge, light and warm. All the attention to detail and tasteful design was delightful. We'll definitely be hoping to come back at some point!

We stayed here for a week (of very wet and windy weather!) and found it a very comfortable, cosy and warm cottage, with all accommodation on first-floor. A haven to return to after walking on the nearby Howgills, with easy access to the beautiful Lune Valley (flooded during our time, but that's an unusual occurrence) and also to the Lake District and Morecambe Bay. A warm, friendly welcome from Tony, and a good supply of all the essentials, including some lovely shower gel and shampoo. Clean, very well-equipped, and ideal for a romantic get-away. Even the heavy rain and gales didn't spoil our holiday! Would definitely return.

Howard's Barn (HB) is well situated being just a few minutes' stroll from the village of Arkenholme and easily accessible from the M6. On arrival, I was met by Toni who explained and showed me where everything was. HB provided everything I needed (including hi-speed wifi) and most importantly was quiet and comfortable. I stayed at HB for 4 weeks while working locally but enjoyed lovely weekend walks in the surrounding countryside. I would definitely stay here again.

Very comfortable cottage, clean & well-equipped, good location for walks, especially along the Lune.

I stayed here while visiting relatives nearby, so primarily needed a bed and somewhere to relax in the evenings, rather than a home from home. However this is a very well-presented holiday home, very comfortable, with everything anyone could possibly need, including Freesat TV, a DVD player, and WiFi. There is even a small torch attached to the key ring, useful as street-lighting is not something found here! It is well-situated in a quiet area, but is a short drive from the M6 and within easy reach of many popular tourist spots including the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and even Blackpool! The owners are unfailingly helpful and very willing to suggest places to visit and things to do, and there is a useful supply of local information in the property, including maps and guidebooks. As it is a small one-bed flat it is really only suitable for couples or singles, and its first floor position might make it unsuitable for people who have any mobility difficulties, especially as there is also a small internal staircase between the bedroom and the rest of the accommodation (including the bathroom). But this is a small disadvantage in what is really a most excellent property to which I will certainly return!
July 2013
We had such a good week at Howard's Barn, from the very first moment we arrived to a warm welcome from Tony. The property - a converted barn - is very pretty and exceptionally well arranged and furnished. The bed is comfortable, the bathroom sensibly laid out, the kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of space to either work or laze around. There are fantastic views of the countryside and the hills from all windows, and the village (with a post office/shop and a pub) is a few minutes' walk down the road. You can go on pleasant rambles from your doorstep, or walk to town for the bus which (every two hours) can take you to further pretty towns down the road. We had a very comfortable and relaxing time, and enjoyed exploring the nearby River Lune, and dream of coming back again.
