Jessie's Cottage description

Holiday home
Just eight miles from Buxton and set within the heart to the village of Combs is this delightful property – a wing of the owner's 19th Century stone-built farmhouse. The farm on which the property is set is still a working one, and the cottage provides bright and sunny accommodation whilst still retaining many original features that add to its character including a stone floored kitchen and an inviting open fire. With views across the rolling hillside and a pretty, well established garden, this property is ideal for either a small family or two couples looking to enjoy the picturesque beauty of the Peak District.

Situated right in the heart of the Peak District, the quiet village of Combs is nestled amidst the surrounding hills in a truly tranquil location. This lovely farming village is perfect for rambling and cycling or fishing on the beautiful reservoir nearby and boasts a traditional village pub serving excellent food on a lovely terrace. Chapel en le Frith, the Capital of the Peaks, is only two miles away and has a cobbled market place that still retains its historic stocks. A further eight miles down the road is Buxton, famous for its therapeutic spring water, its Pavillion Gardens and splendid Victorian Opera House. This theatre still holds a variety of shows, attracting people from all over the world. Castleton and its popular blue-John caves are also close by, as are the stately homes Chatsworth House and Lyme Hall.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

The cottage is very comfortable in a beautiful location with excellent views and we all had a most restful stay. We felt very well looked after. Would advise approaching from Chapel On Le Frith route, as our sat-nav directed us down a very narrow very steep road which was nerve wrecking! We would recommend this property most highly.

A very cosy and exceptionally clean cottage. The decor isn't particularly modern, but then who wants a modern country cottage! The living room furniture and double bed were very comfortable and the storage heaters gave off more than enough warmth. Well-equipped kitchen and the whole cottage was spotless. We were welcomed by wine and two pieces of home made cake as well. Overall a really enjoyable stay and I would definitely consider going back.

December 2009
We really enjoyed our stay in this well-equipped, comfortable cottage, we found it very homely. We appreciated the owner's friendly welcome, with wine and cake, fresh milk, tea & coffee, and a welcome card - nice touch! We were told if we needed anything we only had to ask. A very good base for exploring the High Peak in all directions, this cottage is tucked away in a little lane in the centre of the village, with only a 30-second walk to the excellent Beehive Inn, where the food was fantastic! What was really nice was the peace and quiet!
October 2011
A comfortable well equipped cottage in a wonderful location. The service was friendly and we enjoyed our stay. Towns, for shopping, and country, for walks, are close and the local inns provided good meals. Only one bathroom/toilet for four wrinklies was not ideal but we managed without problems.
March 2010
We spent New Year here surrounded by snow! The cottage had all we needed with a lovely log fire and a pub 50yards away. The owners made us very welcome. We did some wonderful walks and the scenery was breathtaking - we will return!
December 2009
The cottage had all the amenaties that you need for a great stay, unfortunatly it rained every day while we were there, but there was plenty of room dry our cloths, boots and rucksacks, the beds were very warm and comfy and we had a television in each bedroom, the kitchen was very well equiped, and the owners were very friendly and helpful. If you want to eat out the pub is under a minute away, there are good walks from the door. All in all we had a really good if wet week. The only drawback for walkers is that there is only a shower not a bath, walkers like to ease their aching muscles in a bath.
