Knayton House Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
Nestled in a quiet position in the peaceful village of Knayton, this charming stone-built, semi-detached cottage is just five miles from the market town of Thirsk. Formerly part of a larger Georgian house, this wonderful little cottage manages to seamlessly combine period features with practical, modern accommodation and has been furnished to a very high standard. The cottage comes with small, enclosed front and rear gardens - ideal for outdoor dining – however, for activities such as ball games, the house is only a few yards from the traditional village green.

On a small hillside on the edge of the Vale of York, quietly nestling between the Hambleton Hills to the east and the Yorkshire Dales to the west, is the peaceful village of Knayton. This lovely village – built around a traditional village green - boasts an excellent local pub and good walking and cycling opportunities through the beautiful surrounding countryside. The market town of Northallerton is just seven miles away and offers excellent shops as well as a weekly market. To the south, Thirsk is just five miles away and also boasts a market square and a maze of quaint alleyways, packed with cosy teashops and lovely little delicatessens. The cathedral cities of York and Ripon are within driving distance, and offer more cosmopolitan activities.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

The house was spotless and well furnished with instruction leaflets for everything in the kitchen Masses of information about places to visit including maps of the area. Lots of books and games for wet days. One of the best holiday cottages we have ever stayed in, located just a few minutes from a main road yet in a quiet rural location.

April 2008
We appreciated the 'welcome pack' that the owners left in the cottage. The cottage was very warm we did not need to use the wood burner which was located in the lounge. The owners had also left a wide range of DVD's CD's which would have suited most tastes. Everything was clean tidy no expense had been spared.
Mr Barr
July 2008

A warm, welcoming and beautifully presented cottage in an excellent location for visiting both the North Yorks Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, not to mention York itself. Friendly and helpful owners living next door. Little extra touches - eg bread, milk and butter in the fridge - were much appreciated.

February 2007
A beautiful, extremely well equipped cottage in a peaceful yet convenient location. As the first guests we felt somewhat honoured!! The owners were friendly, helpful and handy being only next door. We plan to return for a longer break. The lounge is very spacious and the fire beautiful in the evenings. The cottage has been finished to a very high standard and we found it to be one of the best we have ever stayed in!!

All the previous reviews are spot-on. The photographs of this cottage do not do it justice. It is spotlessly clean and an absolute delight. The furnishings are first class and you'd need to go a long way to get a better welcome hamper. We, a family of 4 (kids 11 and 8) have stayed in several holiday cottages the length and breadth of the UK and this is by far the best. The owners, who live next door, have created a wonderful little gem.
August 2013
You will not fail to be impressed by this beautiful cottage with its fabulous interior and furnishings. Everything is top quality, from the beds and duvets to the kitchen accessories. It's a very relaxing place to spend a week or a short break to get away from it all. It's particularly suited for those who wish to enjoy the Yorkshire countryside, with Thirsk also being only five minutes drive away, where you can purchase top quality locally produced vegetables.
July 2015
This cottage was so lovely, clean, comfortable, well furnished, with great soft towels, with everything you wish for..., not to speak about the decoration... I had to take pictures of every rooms to show to my daughter who wasn't with us. Flowers in every rooms, amazing welcome treat, the cottage was behind expectation as you say in english! It's such a pity we are living so far away...because if not, I would book it for Christmas! The yorkshire moor is also a discovery, you can really do nice walks over there. There are lots of things to visit.
April 2013
I am reluctant to give Knayton House Cottage such a glowing review as I would quite like it to be a well kept secret! However, Sue has worked so hard to make the cottage perfect for her guests that it is only fair that I am honest! The photos don't do this property justice. Everything is such good quality and done to the highest spec. We have stayed here 3 times in the last 18 months and it looks like new every time and we can't believe that people have stayed there inbetween! Everything is immaculate and you get such a warm wlecome from Sue who ensures a hamper is ready for your arrival - Betty's bread, milk, cheese, fruit, eggs, fresh coffee, butter - she has thought of everything. Location wise, it is an easy distance from some great towns - Northallerton, Helmsley, Thirsk. A great base. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
August 2011
The cottage was the best we have ever stayed in. The owner, who lives next door, was very helpful. The village is very quiet, pub nearby! Really relaxing holiday, with lots of places nearby to visit. Highly recommended.
January 2012
The photos for this cottage really don't do it justice. First class accommodation where the owners have thought of everything. Have already booked my next stay!
June 2011
We have stayed at Knayton House Cottage twice now, our last visit being in May of this year (2011) and we really love it.. Susan and David, the owners, could not be more helpfull. The amenities are excellent with a well equipped kitchen and dining area. Living area and bedrooms are well presented and comfortable beds We find it a great location too for all points in Yorkshire be it shopping or touring . We used the York Park and Ride for a hassle free vistit to York. We like Knayton House.
November 2010
The whole experience was super from beginning to end. The cottage was everything we had hoped it would be and the owners were extremely helpful. The location was excellent with access to the countryside (with spectacular views and beautiful little villages), the coast and also cities. A visit to York was simplicity itself, especially using the Park and Ride facilities. We never had time to visit the pub in the village but hopefully will next time.
December 2009
We had a really good holiday here and were able to take the best advantage of the weather by deciding each day whether to head for the Moors or the Dales depending on the wether forecast. In this way we managed to avoid the rain for our stay. Each of the two areas offered lots of different attractions which suited both adults and teenagers alike. Accomodation was very well presented and it felt like home from home. Absolutely marvellous and would recommend this property to anyone.
December 2009
I cannot praise this property enough. The location was wonderful and the property itself was spacious and very clean. We had a fantastic holiday and in fact, we plan to return next year. The owner resides in the property next door and made us feel at home from the start. The property is located in a very small village and within two minutes walking distance from the nearest country pub. The pub itself was very well run and the roast beef was the best that I have ever tasted. You must try it. The property is located in the wonderful countryside and it takes only a short car journey to reach any of the well known beauty spots. We did the Herriot Trail and it was excellent. It will be your loss if you do not visit this property.

This is an outstanding holiday cottage. The location is perfect for touring much of Yorkshire. The cottage is beautifully furnished, very comfortable and every need provided. All the amenities are as expected and well maintained. The owners are very gracious and made sure that my visit was satisfactory. First day necessities are in the cottage for use-----milk, bread etc. as well as daily items needed, soaps, linens etc. I hope to return to Knayton House Cottage my next time in Yorkshire.

August 2014
Knayton Cottage is simply beautiful, an ideal place to stay for relaxation, exploring the surrounding areas, and getting away from the day to day business of life. My family and I have stayed twice now, and this was the first time with our grandchildren , who also loved the house, garden, nature on the doorstep, and the resident cat. Both times we have not been disappointed with the Cottage and the overall friendliness and hospitality of the owner. We definately look forward to coming again.
Mrs Evans
September 2014
The cottage was fabulous, everything that you required was there. Central to get to all locations in the area and the local pub in the village was excellent with fabulous food. Would highly recommend this cottage for a break.
