Laxdale Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
Laxdale Cottage is a cosy single storey cottage in the village of Banavie, with views towards Ben Nevis. There is a double room and a twin room which can also be offered as a super king-size double. There is a family bathroom, a kitchen with dining area and a sitting room with woodburning stove. Outside is off road parking for three cars, and a natural garden leads down to a gate to the canal. Laxdale Cottage makes a good base for enjoying this part of the highlands, including Fort William and Glencoe.

The village of Corpach is the point where the Caledonian Canal reaches the sea and is home to the series of locks known as Neptune's Staircase, the longest of its type in the UK. The village is home to the Snowgoose Mountain Centre, which provides canoeing, kayaking, sailing, mountain walking and winter climbing and is well worth a visit. Also in the village is Treasures of the Earth, which has a collection of crystals, gemstones and fossils. This part of Scotland is wonderful and Corpach offers an ideal base to explore the area.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Excellent location, home from home, everything you want from a holiday cottage. Ideal for discovering the area and relaxing at the end of the day.

What an amazing surprise when we opened the property door - we expected a small cottage, but it was much different to our expectations. The whole property has been extended which gives you so much room. We booked Laxdale as our base to Ben Nevis ski area, expecting it just to be a base, but thankfully this became our home for the week!

The house was perfect, it had everything we needed and was in the perfect location. When we return next year we will definitely be wanting to stay there again.

A comfortable cottage; very clean, comfortable and well equipped, it is in a lovely position by the canal and locks. There are lots of activities nearby and easy access to Fort William etc.

Plenty of space, warm and welcoming; especially on cold November days. Fantastic views of Ben Nevis.

The situation of the property was excellent. It was in a very convenient position for everything that you would need for an enjoyable holiday. There was nothing at all that we did not like about our holiday.

It was so welcoming coming home in the evening after a long walk or strenuous climb or ride. It was lovely and warm, and the bathroom with both a walk in shower and a deep bath were great. The space was great.

Loved the view of Ben Nevis and the Caledonian Canal at the end of the garden. This property was better than described on your site. We fed the neighbours' chickens when they appeared at our door and in return they left us a couple of large eggs on the driveway! We went in the winter and experienced not only good weather but because the trees were bare we had an undisturbed view of the mountains. Cosy central heating and underfloor heating in the bathroom. Spacious kitchen too. Loved it!

A good holiday where one always felt one could relax in the evening and 'chill out' in the cosy warmth of the bungalow. Great views through the lounge windows and lovely underfloor heating in the bathroom.

A nice roomy property, well looked after and well appointed. The owners really are concerned about the enjoyment of the guests. We would say it was the best property we have stayed in over many years of self catering.

The location close to Neptune's Staircase was very good and very quiet, with a nice garden and no traffic. The connection to Fort William was good and the property was in a very good location for sightseeing.

Really good location, cottage had everything you could want, including coffee, teabags, sugar and a cupboard full of all the extras you would never remember to pack. I was travelling with my mum and the cottage was excellent for her as it was all on one level with a walk in shower. However, the drive was very steep and there was no way she could walk down it, but the access to Neptunes staircase, through the garden was good. The pub across the water was ok too, but not really excellent (only our opinion!!). Really enjoyed feeding the local free range chickens too.

A excellent property. Appearances can be deceptive. The outside looked a bit tired but the inside was great. Everything you needed was there the bathroom was simply luxurious We had a slight problem with the heating but the wonderful housekeeper had an electrician round within an hour Who fitted a new component which had us up and running in double quick time. This was by far the cosiest place we have ever stayed in. Most of them seemed to take a couple of days to warm up.We did not need to use the wood burner at all. The views were great and you only had to walk out of the back gate and you were on Neptune's Staircase. Across the locks was the Moorings hotel where the bar meals were top class and a reasonable price (the rice pudding was a rice pudding to die for) . We most definitely would stay at the bungalow again if it is available.
December 2012
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite the dreadful weather, A lovely spot - very convenient for all areas near Fort William. Could not get closer to Neptune's Steps. Excellent wifi and superb bathroom.
August 2013
Lovely bungalow in quiet location with excellent views over to Ben Nevis and the added bonus of the locks of Neptunes Stairway on the Caledonian Canal being immediately outside the garden gate. Excellent base for drives to Isles of Skye and Mull, Fort Augustus and Loch Ness, and many other attractions like the Gondola chairlift up the Nevis Range and the Jacobite steam train to Mallaig. The facilities in the bungalow were great. Can't wait to return again.
