Little Orchard Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
This modern, brick built cottage is situated in the owner's four-acre wooded grounds at the edge of Hope Bagot, six miles from medieval Ludlow. This high-quality property boasts many character features, including exterior wood cladding and a large fireplace with a wood-burning stove. The cosy sitting room leads to a private patio area - perfect for dining outdoors or simply enjoying the views of the surrounding countryside and the owner's orchard. Situated only two miles from the foot of Titterstone Clee Hill, this excellent property is able to accommodate five people over two spacious bedrooms, making this a wonderful place for a family break.

Set on the southern slopes of Titterstone Clee Hill and surrounded by glorious rolling countryside is the remote hamlet of Hope Bagot. This village is close to the historic market town of Ludlow – a settlement situated on the River Teme which boasts nearly 500 listed buildings and original medieval street patterns. Renowned for its shopping facilities, Ludlow is packed with antique shops, art and craft stores and more Michelin-starred restaurants than anywhere else outside London. There are also numerous tea-rooms, pubs and inns. The town's traditional street markets are held in the shadow of the castle, and offer a range of local goods, including cheeses, fresh produce, books and crafts. The castle itself boasts fascinating architecture and is over 900 years old. The village is also within easy reach of Church Stretton, Shrewsbury and Hereford, as well as popular attractions such as the Ironbridge Gorge, the Severn Valley Railway, Berrington Hall and Cardingmill Valley.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

We have stayed in many cottages over the years but I can truly say none have been as well fitted out as this cottage. Everything you could want had been provided, really a home from home. In a really peaceful location but easy to get to lots of nearby places. The views from the windows were amazing. Loved being able to light the wood burner and sit snug relaxing at the end of the day. Just returned from a wonderfully relaxing week at Little Orchard Cottage - it was in an excellent location and was very well appointed with everything we could ask for. The wood burner made for a very cosy atmosphere for a couple of nights in. The owners are very friendly - there if you need them, but equally left us to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the week. We will definitely be recommending to family friends and hope to return again ourselves at some point.

December 2012
The owners greeted us on arrival informing us about the local facilities etc while our grandchildren went exploring the cottage. It was our granddaughters birthday the day we arrived and to our surprise a cake was on the table when we entered the kitchen. The cottage was just what we wanted with everything available and a good location to explore Shropshire. Ironbridge with its museums was our grandchildrens favourite. Could not fault the accommodation.
October 2012
Fantastic place. Lots to do in surrounding areas. A real home from home. High quality fixtures fittings and soft furnishings.
Mrs. C.R.Goodey
December 2013
A great time was had by all four of us it was a very peaceful holiday in a beautiful setting. There was everything you could possibly want in the cottage and more besides. As we were three different age groups we all took many memories of our week there which were all good. The garden area was really enjoyable surrounded by lovely plants.
April 2014
We really enjoyed our week staying at Little Orchard Cottage. The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable and a real home from home. The cottage is in an lovely peaceful area and was a great base for visiting the local attractions and towns. The owners were very welcoming and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. The children loved the lambs in the nearby field, they were sad to leave the cottage after a wonderful week.
July 2014
A great welcome from the owners with a homemade cake, wine, eggs, milk and flowers. The cottage is like a tardis as from the outside it looks dainty but get inside and you are in a large living room, then then rough to a kitchen/dining room then through to a good sized bathroom and hallway. The kitchen is very well equipped and I cooked a couple of meals without having to search for utensils etc. Upstairs there are two good sized bedrooms, one a double and one a twin. We are both quite tall, hubby being 6ft 5in but the sloping roof over the bed was never an issue and we didn't have one bumped head all week! The upstairs loo and wash basin are a great idea and the space has been used fantastically well. The gardens are beautifully kept and I am very envious of the owners gardens, which are immaculate. We ate one night at the local pub/restaurant, The Bennett's End. The food was gorgeous (see review on Tripadvisor). This cottage is stunning and in a fabulous part of the country with loads of places to visit. Try going to some of the smaller places such as Much Wenlock and Church Stretton and especially Ludlow. Go on market days for even more choice of goods to buy. I would definitely stay here again as the place is so charming.
January 2014
The owners were very welcoming and provided lots of little extras ie wine, cake, eggs and milk. The cottage had everything that you could possibly need to self-cater, and it was set in a rural and pretty location. There was plenty to do/see in the surrounding area, plus lots of good walks, and, amazingly, although it was October, the weather was great. The last few nights were colder, so the wood burning stove was most welcome. The only negative, and this was due to there being cows in an adjoining field, was that on one night, one of the bedrooms was beseiged by flies- these were easily dealt with by the fly spray provided. Check the rooms well before you retire as that allows time for any spray used to dissipate, and the hoover to be employed, before you go to bed.
October 2013
One of the most beautiful, comfortable and peaceful holiday cottages my family have stayed at, Little Orchard cottage comes highly recommended. It is spaceous, tastefully decorated and superbly equipped. The owners were extremely helpful and the welcome pack was a sweet touch (what a fantastic cake!). As for the location, well, what can I say? Shropshire is one of the most beautiful counties in England - ideal for those that love nature and the great outdoors.
December 2011
Cleanest holiday cottage I have ever stayed in - owners friendly but not intrusive - peace and quiet - well equipped kitchen - good sized wine glasses!!!
January 2012
a lovely comfortable cottage to come back to after a good day's sightseeing, places were quite close, and beautiful and central to where we were staying,we had a lovely time but prehaps would pick one of your cottages closer to a small town or village as the cottage even though it was lovely a little remote.
October 2011
Lovely welcome from our hosts. All the extras were a thoughtful touch. Tv too small for large lounge. Very hot upstairs and no fan provided. A very peaceful holiday in a great location staying in a clean cottage. Dishwasher would be a good addition too.
August 2011
Cottage very well appointed. Good attention to detail. Welcome tray of eggs, cake and tea facilities was much appreciated. Slightly off the beaten track but do take the time to go out and about, so many interesting places. The Hay Festival was well worth a visit, only a hour and a quarter away. Lots of castles, Stokesay, Ludlow, Hampton Court. Good food court at Ludlow...go there first, not the supermarket! If it's wet, go to Dudley...Merryhill Shopping Centre...cinema, shops, supermarkets, petrol station. About an hour and a quarter away. Locally, visit Church Stretton...very pretty.
Helen Jones
December 2011
Spent 5 days at this lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. The welcome from owners was lovely, and the touches like homemade cake, wine and eggs were unexpected, but very enjoyable. The cottage was like 'home from home' with the amenties it had,we tavelled around the county seeing quite a bit of the countryside. We spent a day on Severn Valley Railway, and time around the museums of Ironbridge, fantastic value for money. Fantasic cottage in a great location
September 2011
Cottages has everything you need for a holiday. Owners are very welcoming without being intrusive and the welcome extras of egg, milk, wine and cake they provide is a lovely special touch. Cottage is kept beautifully to a very high standard and perfect for familis or couples looking to explore the 3 counties(shropshire, worcestershire and Herefordshire) that are in easy driving distance from the location.
