Liverton Lodge Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
This imposing, sandstone farmhouse is set in open countryside close to the hamlet of Liverton. It has far reaching views across to the coast two miles away and has retained many of its original features including fine oak panelling, exposed stonework and beamed ceilings. There are two spacious sitting rooms, one housing an open fire, and the large farmhouse kitchen has an additional dining area and a useful utility room. The four bedrooms are light and restful and there are two well-appointed bathrooms. The farmhouse also boasts a grand piano, perfect for a family gathering. Outside there is a delightfully large walled garden. This versatile property would make an ideal base for a holiday in this area and is perfect for a family get together.

In the picturesque Esk Valley is the moors village of Danby. It boasts two public houses, both serving food, tea-rooms and a bakery. At nearby Danby Lodge there is an excellent National Park Visitor Centre set in 13 acres of beautiful riverside pasture and housing exhibitions and offering nature trails. The ruins of Danby Castle, built in the 14th Century, are just waiting to be discovered and the last remaining working water mill on the River Esk can also be found here. The Esk Valley Way is a 35-mile trail that starts at the source of the River Esk and ends at Whitby harbour, going through many of the villages on the Esk Valley Railway. This area makes a superb base to see this tremendous area.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Oil central heating with open fire. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, 2 x washing machines, dishwasher, TV, DVD, video, CD, WiFi. Fuel, power and starter pack for fire inc. in rent. The house and garden were fantastic and it was so quiet. It was close to all beaches and shops etc. It was a wonderful holiday and me and my family can't wait to go again.

A lovely home for the week for 6 adults, one toddler and a pooch. Had plenty of room, a lovely big garden, a really good position for sea and moors and a kitchen with everything you needed. The second sitting room was a real bonus too as everyone could have their own space and not get on top of each other. Loved it and wasn't ready to go home!
Mr Limbert

As soon as you walk in the door you get that homely feeling. It is spacious, cosy and we loved everything about the place. Both sitting rooms were comfortable and relaxing with views across the garden. We had everything from 10 people to 4 people staying and everyone agreed this was one of the best holiday cottages they had stayed in.
Ms Allen

August 2012
We had a brilliant time at Liverton Lodge. The house and the garden were amazing, with so much space for the children to play in. The cupboard full of games was a big bonus. The location was great with lots of lovely beaches nearby. It was good to have 2 washing machines for our 2 families to wash wet, sandy beach stuff. The owners sent useful information shortly before our stay. Would definitely like to return and would have no hesitation recommending the property.
October 2011
The space was amazing. The age of the property and original features, the outlook, the central heating, the new kitchen, the convenience to the pub and Fish and Chip shop. Truly fabulous stay.

September 2011
The cottage was a lovely and comfortable place to stay and I would certainly book 'Liverton Lodge' again. The garden was wonderful for my german shepherd, she loved chasing about and I didn't have to worry about her getting out. The one thing which kept my husband quiet was the piano he loved it. Thank you very much.
Mr Comiskey
July 2011
Excellent house, we really loved it. Great for children in every way!
Mrs Mather
August 2011
The size of the rooms and the fact that you could 'escape' in at least one. The young ones had lots of different rooms to play in and they loved it. Garden an absolute bonus.
Mr Wenham
August 2011
This is the third time we have been here and we have already booked for next year for the family. I think that says it all. We love the size of the rooms and garden and we also like the close proximity to Saltburn which is ideal for small children. We're looking forward to next year already.
Mrs McNeil
September 2011
Liverton Lodge has plenty of room for ten people and it met the requirements of both adults and children. It was very comfortable, especially with five double bedrooms, and nice to have two bathrooms and lounges. Also the kitchen facilities was more than you would expect for a holiday home and it was really lovely to be able to all sit down for a meal together in the dining room. The children thoroughly enjoyed playing in the garden and hide and seek in the house. There is a good selection of games and films to keep everyone amused. Good location for visiting the coastline and moors which are stunning. We would definitely recommend this beautiful house to our family and friends.
Mr Valentine
April 2011

September 2010
The location of the Lodge is in a beautifully quiet village with an excellent village pub. The south facing front of the Lodge is accessed from the rear and overlooks a very large garden. It is absolutely ideal for an 'away from it all' holiday and is safe for young children. There are some small shops locally for provisions but the area is magnificent for access to Whitby, Scarborough and Pickering. A trip on the North Yorks Moors railway is highly recommended.
Mrs Tench
February 2010
The cottage was an excellent place for our whole family to come together for a relaxing week. The garden and house was exactly what we needed. We will be returning hopefully in the summer.

December 2009
We loved the house setting, specifically the garden....... the small children really appreciated the space to run around and it was a safe place. The area is fabulous for sightseeing and things to do. A suggestion i would make is that there were not enough towels supplied and the cooker could do with renewing or even having a bigger cooker was required. We have very happy memories of our stay and that is why i have recommended it.
Mr Worthington
June 2005
Being our first time visiting North Yorkshire we were impressed with the area surrounding towns/villages. The property, Liverton Lodge, was superb. Already considering booking again.

This is a very impressive house, really grand and everything inside was excellent, so much space everywhere and a really lovely large, safe garden, we had a wonderful week. So handy for whitby and redcar, both lovely resorts. We will most certainly stay here again. Thanks, Sykes Cottages, you have done us proud yet again.
Mrs Jarvis
April 2005
Large amount of room, ample for 6 adults and 4 children. Very clean house - one adult has allergies to dogs/cats so we occasionally have a sneezy week when on holiday if there is a lot of hairs, but the house was spotless - please pass on our thanks to the thorough cleaner!
Mr Hebden
March 2005
Liverton Lodge is a wonderful place to stay, anywhere that has room for a baby grand in the hall way has got to be great.
Mrs Thorndyke
July 2005

February 2005
The description in the brochure does not do it justice- it is a perfect place to get away from it all. This is a lovely house, perfect for a family get together. None of us wanted to leave. The children loved it and it was great that there were games there for them to play with.
Mr Marshall
March 2005
Spacious house close to both the coast and the moors. Boiler/utility excellent for cleaning and drying walking boots etc.
August 2013
Can only praise the owners and cleaners for all their assistance in providing great accommodation, sorting local attractions - and then in helping and returning items mislaid by our kids. Just good all round.
May 2015
As soon as you walk in to the property, you feel a homely atmosphere. The children immediately rushed around exploring, whilst we unpacked. Our party consisted of 8 adults 2 children + a 10 month old. Everyone was amazed how spacious and cosy the property is. Bedrooms all a good size, comfy beds, all have great views across countryside or in the distance the .sea. Really cannot fault this place, well situated for coast, and countryside, all within easy driving distance. Great garden for Kids and dogs. This place was a real find, recommended by a friend, we will certainly recommend it to our friends
June 2013
I think this is our 4th stay. plenty of room for 2 families and grandparent. the 2 sitting rooms are a real bonus and the wood collecting / fire lighting ritual adds for a cozy feel. We have explored the area - Runswick Bay, Whitby and Saltburn are definitely worth return visits and this time we found a walk to Skinningrove which has a hidden beach, lovely clifftop walks and a lovely children's play area. The new central heating meant we were warm despite the colder than usual temperatures. This cottage is welcoming, roomy and really good value for money. We will be booking again.thank you.
June 2013
!0 uf us comprised of two families of 5 spent a week here in easter holidays. The house was fabulous. Well equipped with a massive garden. the kids loved playing hide and seek around the house and we spent some lovely evenings around the piano and in front of the fire. Well located for the seaside and the moors. would recommend 100%
May 2011
A number of issues, no one to show us in and tell us how everything worked (awkward cooker with odd controls!). The key was left under a stone and all appliances had been switched off (fridge, freezer etc!). Main issue is that a work man turned up one morning at 8am to do some work in the garage (seemed to be putting in some sort of electricity into garage). However, he drilled into the wall of the property to put cabling in pretty much solidly for 2 days. No prior notice and on second day he was there even turned electric off! Have contacted Sykes to get some sort of apology, they passed on to owner who desputed that a workman was even there!!! Sykes cottages have washed hands of complaint and have asked us to contact owner direct! So much for being an agent. Also more minor details mattresses seemed old and uncomfortable, with a definite roll together for extra closeness on both double beds. Newly fitted kitchen but couldn't open fridge with a drawer open! Dining table extremely wobbly. Not fit for purpose of feeding 8 people at once.
December 2011
This is an amazing old farmhouse set with other owned accommodation between Liverton village and Liverton Mines. Lounge rooms(2)and kitchen are well appointed and comfortable. Some of the bedrooms could be updated as could the unusual 1960's bathrooms. The central heating kept the house warm in autumn and the washing machine was a bonus. The house is huge and the aspect lovely. A pub, a fish & chip shop and general store are within walking distance. A great base to explore the coast and dales. The most disappointing thing for me was there were no animals...
April 2013
Have stayed with family twice at this house. It is I have stated above cosy with the real fire but apart from the kitchen and fairly new bathroom the rest of it is tired. The house sleeps up to 10 and is good value for the money. The kitchen is not, in my opinion, very well equipped especially if you have 10 people staying. Once you have had a cup of tea you will have to wash up as there is not much crockery. The other downside to it is that if there are 10 of you all staying there is not enough comfortable seating for you all to be sat in the same room at once eg watching a film together or playing games. In the evening everyone wants to be in the sitting room with real fires in but in order to do this we had to put up our folding deck chairs. As there is a lack of such large properties in the area it does get booked but I suspect if it had more competition it would not bet booked as much. It was however quiet and fairly clean. The bedding is like something out of the 70s however.
December 2009
April 2010
everything we wanted for a family holiday (7 adults and 2 children). enjoyed by all. especially the children who loved running around the house playing hide and seek with some help from the adults.
June 2010
We had a lovely stay at Lindale Lodge. It was a large house that suited everyone, especially the two lounges, Men in one watching football and the ladies in the other one watching a film. Our dog loved the garden. The house was clean, warm, tidy and the games cupboard a great idea. We would certainly come back again if we are looking to visit the area.
December 2009
Plenty of space for all of us and two sitting rooms meant the kids could play whilst adults chilled. Kitchen a good size so feeding the five thousand was easy. Garden also very child-friendly and safely enclosed. Local chippy excellent and the meal deals at the nearby pub were great value. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - would give five stars if only there was a shower in the second bathroom!
December 2009
We had a lovely family holiday in Danby. The accommodation was very comfortable and maintained to a high standard. We particularly enjoyed the piano and trying to get a recognisable tune from it. An excellent place to stay to visit the area. We travelled by the North York Moors railway to Goathland, Aidensfield in "Heartbeat" and relished the pub and the village. Whitby was another gem as well as Robin Hood's Bay. We all enjoyed our stay and will certainly book with Sykes again in the future.
December 2009
My sister and I with the dog enjoyed a weeks holiday here in September 2008. We liked it so much that we have booked it again for July 2010 for us and our extended family. The house itself is large enough for a family and is very comfortable. The area nearby in the North Yorks moors is wonderful scenery with lots of places to visit. A nice and peaceful location.
