From this largerock visitors can see the spectacular views over the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland - all three of these areas offer fabulous walking and cycling opportunities for all levels of fitness. The town of Bentham has a range of pubs and restaurants serving fine beers and good food and is within easy driving distance. This charming little town also boasts a wide variety of shops and a post office.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

The cottage was in a stunning, idyllic, remote, rural location and was even better than we'd imagined. The cottage was very spacious with plenty of rooms for us to relax in and was great for the children, with lots of hiding places. It was kept very well with great facilities and very clean.

Lower Croasdale Farmhouse is lovely! We loved the remoteness, the stream, the views and the farm animals. The house itself is very comfortable, well equipped and warm. The children loved having their own TV/sitting room - as did the adults! The house was warm and welcoming when we got back cold. We would all love to return in the summer!
Miss Hines
January 2015
The cottage was perfect for our needs over the New Year, in particular the extra wood, and abundance of glasses and crockery. All the bedrooms were roomy and clean with plenty of towels, the utility room a real bonus. The owners have been helpful throughout the process and the farm workers were helpful and accommodating when we asked for advice.
Mrs Hodgson

Mr Mills
July 2014
The cottage was spacious for our group of 8 adults plus one baby and the location was superb. A real sense of peace and solitude in the evening with views over moorland and across to Morecambe Bay. In the day, we all enjoyed the close proximity of the working farm with entertainment provided by the farm animals, quad bikes and sheep shearing. The cottage was warm and cosy and we were able to make good use of the radiators and wood burning stove. The kitchen was generally well stocked and the table the right size for everyone to sit down to an evening meal.
Mrs Fitzpatrick
January 2014

June 2013
Everything was great! The farmhouse was fantastic and it was a great place for us all to stay (half the group did the three peaks challenge, and the other less energetic half went for a spa day in Lancaster). The setting was beautiful, the farmhouse has been done up to a very high standard and had everything we could have needed. Staying here definitely helped to make our long weekend very enjoyable and one to remember. We're already trying to find a reason to come for longer next time! Thank you for such a wonderful stay.
Miss Fielding

The cottage was quite unique in terms of its remoteness and location. It was very warm and inviting; the log wood burner was particularly a nice touch and good antidote for the weather.
Mrs Aitken
October 2012
Everything about the cottage was perfect. It was spotlessly clean and really warm when we arrived. We loved lighting the wood burner each evening. We visit a holiday cottage a few times a year and this one was one of the most comfortable inside.
Mrs Lee
February 2012
From the moment we walked through the front door we loved the property, the welcome tray and vase of flowers were a lovely touch. It was a freezing cold day and the cottage was always warm and cosy, amazing showers and plenty of hot water. We loved the location in the middle of nowhere, perfect for our family getaway!
Dr Walsh
June 2012
In a secluded position. Near to home but felt as though in a different world! Really enjoyed being within farm setting, and close to a working town.
Mrs Degani
July 2012
The cottage was lovely. Very secluded and well equipped. Beautiful location. The caretakers extremely helpful.
Mr Carter
October 2011
The property has been converted and modernised to a high standard, with effective central heating even for the Pennine winter. The property is situated far from the road, which gives a glorious sense of peace and isolation.
Mr Broughton
January 2012
We booked the property for a relaxing week with friends and family and it offered the perfect setting in the middle of nowhere yet close enough to the local villages for days out and shopping. The property itself was stunning, as were the views, and the warmth of the ambiance in the cottage was amazing. There were fresh flowers and a tea tray laid out upon arrival which made us feel immediately welcome. The house itself, an old farm property, was fresh, light and well presented, the furnishings and decor were modern yet sympathetic to the age of the building. The kitchen was well appointed and we enjoyed gathering at the table for breakfasts and evening meals. The lounge was perfect for sitting with a glass of wine, a good read and chatting in front of the log fire. Would we go back? Absolutely!
Mrs Williamson
August 2011
The whole holiday was fantastic and the cottage and surroundings are lovely with the nearest village only 10 minutes away.
Mr Lomas
July 2011
The location was excellent. Remote and yet still close (by car) to all of the main sites within the Dales.
Mrs Tovell
July 2011
The peace and quiet. The area being borderline of 3 counties. The property was the best equipped we have ever stayed in. The thoughtfulness of the owner/caretaker in small things that mean a lot after travelling a long way to see that tea, coffee, milk and biscuits to name a few, await you on arrival.
Mrs O'Grady
April 2011
Peace and quiet, lovely farmhouse well adapted for the number.
Mr Heywood
June 2011

Miss Frost
June 2011
The location of the cottage is fantastic and ideal for a peaceful 'get away from it all' holiday. In general a lovely property to enjoy at any time of year.
Mrs Halliwell
December 2010
Loved everything! The house was perfect and the support and help we received from the owners and the farmer when we were leaving in snowy conditions was second to none. They were amazing. We certainly hope to come again. Please pass on our thanks to the owner for having such a lovely holiday home and having a wonderful team working with her.
Mr Tregaskes
November 2010
Although the house was at the end of a long track, the drive was worth it as the house was excellent with lovely views. The tea and biscuits on arrival were appreciated. The house was excellently positioned to tour Cumbria, Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales. The house catered well for a group of 8 with ample comfortable seating.
Mr King
October 2010
A really nice cottage in a great location. Best of both worlds as remote and quiet yet not too far from some lovely market towns. This was our second visit to this cottage and we have booked through Sykes for the last 5 years - every cottage has been excellent.
Mr Bull
September 2010
Location and standard of Farmhouse excellent. Lots of walks from the property and around the surrounding area.
Mrs Sayer
October 2010
Beautiful cottage set in a remote location with only the sheep, rabbits and hares for company. Would make an ideal break for both couples and families wishing to relax and get away from it all. The nearest village is only a short car drive away and has very good shopping facilities, takeaways etc. We loved sitting and watching the sun go down outside on the patio with lovely views of the moors and babbling brook. The garden is completely enclosed both back and front so is ideal for families with small children. A gate allows entrance from the patio on to the moors for older ones to explore the stream and moors. A big thank you to the owners of the cottage and for the lovely flowers, tea, biscuits and milk.
Mr Wright
August 2010
This was a great cottage which is right out of the way and therefore made for a really relaxing holiday. That said there is plenty to do including great walks, caves to visit, beautiful scenery, the Lake District, City of York and lovely little villages in the Dales such as Hawes. The cottage was great for all ages and the 3 year old with us really didn't want to leave but neither did the adults!!
Mr Field
July 2010
The quiet location and the excellent facilities the house provided. It was nice to come in and find cups and saucers ready and milk in the fridge!

December 2009
Christmas Day saw brilliant sun and masses of snow and we were able to drink mulled wine on the terrace - who needs the Alps? We had never before been away at Christmas. The helpfulness of everyone made it very memorable. The area is very beautiful and unspoilt.
Mr Reddy

Mrs Thorne
June 2008
Exactly what we wanted! We would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to our friends and family.
Mr Naylor
June 2008
Wonderfully remote. Didn't mind the long drive from the 'main' road at all, as many former users seemed to. On the first night's drive to the house we saw horses, cows, sheep, rabbits and a hedgehog. Which was very exciting for city folk. The power showers were really powerful and have prompted thoughts of an upgrade at home.
Mr Roberts
July 2008
Strangely the long driveway to the property and it's remoteness
Mr Dixon-Carter
October 2008
The size of the cottage. Although there were only two of us this time it could have easily and comfortably accommodated eight people. It's isolation was wonderful.
Mr Evison
November 2008

The property is spacious yet cosy. The cooking facilities and dining area were excellent. The property is on a working farm, with animals in close proximity. A pleasure for children and adults. The isolated area of the property is very relaxing. We hope to return in Spring or Autumn.

Mr Mrs Ames
July 2007
We enjoyed the remoteness of the property and its easy access to outstanding countryside and walking.
September 2012
An oasis of peace and tranquility less than 2hrs from our home. Very well appointed house on a working farm which left us wanting for nothing..even the weather was beautiful during our stay.It was so lovely to sit and watch the swifts swooping over the valley and to wake to lambs bleating...and the odd quad bike as the local farmer tended the livestock!! Bentham is a lovely working town with local Butchers and Bakers providing excellent produce. The only negative was limited walks directly from the house, but only a short drive needed to reach some stunning areas.
July 2013
Belated review but better late than never... Spent a week here with friends last Christmas and was very impressed all round. Arrived by train into Bentham, which was walking distance to pub (one of three) handy whilst we got our bearings. Local taxi firm (with just the one driver i think!) deposited 6 of us plus bags to the farmhouse no problem, even though fairly secluded and off the beaten track. (Beware low slung cars) Lovely detached farmhouse with all the mod cons, (and very pretty xmas fairy lights and tree) slept 8 of us with plenty of space so you're not tripping over each other. Allows one well behaved pet. Lovely wood burner in the lounge that warmed our cockles and some. Kitchen well equipped to cook Christmas dinner (just needed to take blender), open to dining area large enough for us all to sit comfortably. Lots of lovely walks in the beautiful surrounding area, with Bentham 3 miles away, perfect distance to walk off the extra roast potatoes.
June 2012
We had a lovely week in this beautiful farm house. Nothing lacking in the home. The countryside and wildlife were exceptional.
September 2012
Lovely house - well appointed. For us too many single beds and the main bathroom could do with a shower. Lovely enjoying the peace and quiet of rural England but at the same time not having to worry about disturbing the neighbours!!! The 1.1 mile long lane requires some attention as it was very rutted in parts. It takes over 10 minutes to drive to the house. We weren't happy about walking through a herd of cows with an active bull with them and no electric fence to keep them away - quite intimidating. We only went for one walk from the house because of this. Plus points - Tesco will do a grocery delivery - yippee!! and the Coach House in Higher Bentham does a very good Sunday lunch
December 2011
Lovely accommodation in a beautiful setting with an amazing fire! We didn't find the fire straight away as the lounge had been locked from the inside, but after a while we found the outside door. We arrived in the dark which proved fun to find the signs. It was fantastic for our needs with a large kitchen and lounge, it is definitely remote, so if you like shops it's not for you. We never made it to the pub as it seemed a longer walk than thought but this wasn't a problem as the lounge was very spacious.
J.J Maud
September 2010
A lovely place to stay. very clean and comfortable. well equipped with everything you should need. Brilliant location out on the moor, secluded and peaceful. would certainly return again.A couple of miles away in Bentham there are nice village pubs with good meals would need a car to stay at this cottage.
November 2010
Had a great weekend here, so relaxing and very romantic hide away. Very secluded even though nearest shops are only 5 minutes down the road! (by car) Lovely views over the moors and your own gorgeous patio with little stream beyond the gate safe for children to paddle in. The house is charming and the owners provide milk on arrival and fresh flowers, tea and coffee! will definately be back to this wonderful cottage. A big thank you to sykes for being so friendly and helpful they really went out of their way to help us find the right property at a great price! we will be using sykes every time from now on!
May 2011
We had a wonderful holiday. The location was amazing. We had peace and quiet for a whole week. The accommodation was excellent - spacious and well equipped! Our daughter-in-law arrived first and her text message said ' The cottage is lovely, I want to live here!'. Our 2 year old granddaughter loved the sheep and the cows. We were all sorry the week had to end. What more can you say!!
August 2011
I have stayed at this property twice and have been entirely satisfied with the house, the cleanliness, the serviceand the comfort. I first stayed in December, when we had deep snow. The house was perfectly warm and snug. When we got stuck in the ice (the only problem we encountered was the long, rough drive) the neighbouring farmer, and the agent were extremely helpful. I shall be returning, hopefully this year.
February 2010
Our first ever Christmas away from home was a huge break with tradition. Severe winter weather did not deter us and ensconced in our 4x4 we made the journey. The road conditions deteriorated and we were told our property was unreachable due to drifting snow. We were put up in another cosy barn conversion for the night. Smaller than the house we had booked, my night was spent on the settee whilst family members took the bedrooms, but I had the wood burning stove! A hairy drive into Higher Bentham and we had a wonderful cosy supper in a local pub. The next day dawned with a fresh covering of snow. A glorious day with clear skies and brilliant snow sparkling in the sunshine. A walk/stumble through the fields was the order of the day while the property owners managed to arrange snow clearing to Lower Crossdale. So 24 hours late we arrived at our destination. Truly remote and wild it was everything we expected. A lovely setting along a winding unmade up road out in the moors. The house was tastefully decorated for Christmas and provided excellent accomodation and facilities. Scrupulously clean and very well designed for family living it was exactly as we expected. Sub zero temperatures unfortunately saw the central heating break down, but the property manager made a huge effort to come out late at night with a supply of hot water bottles, fan heaters and extra fuel for the wood burner. The next day saw the engineers arrive on a JCB digger and we were soon warm and cosy. . The weather made travel difficult but a drive to York gave us an insight into spectacular changing scenery. Christmas Day took us to early morning service and it was back to the house for mulled wine on the sunny terrace all very Alpine! The kitchen offered everything to produce Christmas lunch. Snow made travel difficult but the scenery, excellent accomodation and lovely friendly welcome made it truly memorable Chrismas and we aim to return in easier weather.
December 2009
The farmhouse is very secluded and has about 1 mile of track before you get to it. The scenery is spectacular and you really feel away from it all. Bentham is about 3 miles from the farmhouse and we went to a sheep auction which was vry interesting. There are some lovely yorkshire villages roundabout and kendal is not that far away. The accommodation is very spacious (8 adults stayed there), a nice big kitchen/diner, good sized living room and 4 good bedroom (1 ensuite). I thoroughly recommend Lower Croasdale if you want a rest. I would definitely go back there for another holiday. The utility room has everything you need and we had a really restful holiday. I hadn't been to the North Yorkshire moors before and the scenery was breathtaking. Very good value for money and I would thoroughly recommend this cottage. The only drawback is the unmade road, but that didn't stop us getting out and about and it is lovely for a walk, as you don't get much traffic down it (only farm traffic). Overall 5 stars as I really enjoyed the holiday.
December 2009
Home from home - perfectly peaceful retreat. Lots to do in surrounding area, easy to get to The Lakes, The Dales and many lovely towns in the area. Lots of pubs worth a visit, and bistros too. Try PLatos in Kirkby Lonsdale for a smashing afternoon tea - great value ! We shall retrun !
