The hamlet of Burtersett was a lovely place to be with some good walks from the door. We all felt at home, and welcomed by the friendly artist next door. Walking across the fields on the stone path to the pub in Hawes was a lovely end to the day, and easy to follow back as it got dark! We had a great week and thoroughly enjoyed Wensleydale, would love to go back.

We all enjoyed the peace and quiet. The cottage was spacious and well maintained. We went to various places all within easy reach, 1-2 hrs drive. Food in the local Crown pub in Hawes was fantastic so we ate there most nights. Bought an original oil painting of the village from a neighbour who is an artist. Weather was lovely, had a fantastic time.

Being in an area where you can walk a lot. Also the vicinity of a small village (Hawes) is handy. It's central to a lot of day outings. Mrs. Pearson is a very agreeable person to contact. We had a few problems while being in England, but she solved them all.
Mr Donohoe

A beautiful area with some lovely walks straight from the door. The garden area was dog friendly as we could let our little dog out without the worry of him trying to escape. Plenty of wildlife, every day some lovely birds visited the garden. Some lovely eating places in Hawes which was only a mile away and of course the cheese factory, where we bought loads of cheeses etc. Well worth a visit.

September 2005
This place is an ideal base for the Yorkshire Dales. We walked to Hawes everyday. We had the privacy and tranquility that we look for in a holiday cottage. We all enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed for 2 weeks. This cottage was the best we have stayed in and we have been holidaying in the Dales for the past 5 years.
Mr Mills
November 2005
A truly fantastic cottage, very comfortable and well kitted out. You get the impression that the owner takes real pride in the property and has thought of everything in terms of facilities and comfort. There are some very nice finishing touches too. Would recommend to anyone without a moments hesitation, by far the best holiday property I have hired.
Mr Kenton
December 2005
Just a quick note to say how pleased we were with this cottage, we only stayed for 3 nights, but it was totally enjoyable. The place was like home from home, the furnishings were nothing less than fantastic, far better than we had expected. We plan to return next year with some friends as we were so pleased. Thanks once again.

August 2005
Enclosed garden, remote location, standard and content of kitchen in particular was excellent.
August 2013
Great place to stay if you are not disabled. We were lucky that the 2 neighbours were away so we got to park at their houses. The only car that you would get in the Maryend drive is a Smartcar. We would have had to park at the other end of the village if it had not been for the neighbours good nature. That aside the house was great and the amenieties were great what a great holiday house.
December 2009
Ideal location to walk into Hawes across the fields. Loads of wonderful walks. Beautifully appointed cottage with everything you need. Home from home. Great for dogs with enclosed back garden, stone floors. Lots of places to visit locally. Something for everyone.
September 2012
Maryend is a beautiful stone cotage which although does have neighbours attatched to the property there was never any noise. The cotage felt secluded and remote yet had the benefit of being a short distance away from Hawes which has excellent pubs and shopping as well as an interesting museum and the ropery. The cottage itself was clean and well cared for with a great enclosed garden from which there are views over the valley. Off road parking was not really available at the cottage but there was plenty of parking a very short distance away. There was an excellent kitchen diner with a very high standard of appliances was so nice to be in a holiday cottage with a great cooker! The cottage is well placed for many local attractions we especially enjoyed aysgarth falls and the wensleydale creamery is well worth a visit. As dog owners we felt the whole area was very welcoming of dogs. As a summery I would recommend this cottage and area to anyone wishing to stay in a peaceful area with plenty of natural beauty.
July 2013
lovely cottage in a great location for walking from front door, a welcome break from driving! secure garden for our dogs, easy walk into town for some very nice beer. would certainly recommend.
