With origins dating back to the Middle Ages, Elmham Mill stands in one of the loveliest locations to be found in this part of Norfolk. Straddling the River Wensum, the watermill (which ceased working in the 1960s) is actually situated on an island, where the river divides to flow through and around the mill. Elmham Mill is known historically as Grint Mill and was mentioned in the Domesday Book. The mill pool, according to folklore, was once fished by monks and the site of an Anglo-Saxon cathedral is located upstream from the mill.
Tastefully refurbished, Mill Race Apartment lies on the second floor, with river views from every window and a wonderful bird’s eye view of the surrounding Site of Special Scientific Interest and river views from every window, with its rolling countryside and abundant wildlife. Birdwatchers will be in their element with over 40 species spotted in the grounds. Relax in the shared grounds, or tear yourself away from this idyllic location and explore the North Norfolk coast, the Broads and the Wensum Valley Trail. This is a great location for artists and railway enthusiasts. County School Station and orchard, located on the edge of the village, has been restored to its original condition and showcase displays, open in season, with its tearoom. No fishing at property.
