Millstones Romantic Cottage description

Holiday home
A sympathetically restored stone-built first floor wing of the original farmhouse, this charming property is set around an idyllic courtyard just five minutes walk from the village of Gilling West. Tastefully furnished, this charming property offers an open plan living area, a double bedroom with en-suite facilities and a pretty balcony with excellent views over the nearby lake and open countryside. Its idyllic location makes it a wonderful retreat for a romantic break, or for a couple simply looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The peaceful Dales village of Gilling West - winner of the 'Yorkshire in Bloom' award - is situated in picturesque rolling countryside to the north of Richmond. This market town, with a Georgian theatre and ruined medieval castle overlooking the River Swale, is a popular destination for holiday makers throughout the year. Gilling West itself is home to a lovely old church, two pubs - both of which serve food – as well as a village shop and post office. There are numerous footpaths and bridleways throughout the region and many fishing facilities are available nearby making this an ideal location for exploring all of Swaledale and Teesdale.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

It was a beautiful environment on site. It was a perfect place for the rest and relaxation that we needed or for a family with lots of things for young people to do without encroaching on the privacy of others. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Where can I start, when we arrived we got a very warm welcome from the owner. It is in a beautiful location, the whole farm was top notch and I would love to stay there again. I would imagine in the summer it would be a great place to enjoy being outdoors.

The area and the actual site; we could not have asked for a more quiet and relaxing holiday, the cottage was extremely well equipped and clean. The views from the cottage were lovely.

Loved the peaceful atmosphere and the fact that you couldn't hear any noise from the other cottages or even from the farmhouse below. I was impressed that there was a supply of daily essentials, which I thought we would have had to bring ourselves.

The apartment was warm and cosy and had lovely views over the countryside. It was close to the owner's part of the farmhouse; they were available if needed but didn't interfere at all. It was quiet but close to the nearby village, well connected by road to major routes and to Richmond and the Dales nearby. Although small, the apartment had everything we needed and was perfect for a weekend away.

You will not find a better place to stay and visit North Yorkshire. The location of this farm is idyllic, within walking distance of the lovely village of Gilling West and its two exceptional, but very different in character pubs. The owners of the farm are marvellous, friendly, helpful and they massively contributed to a fantastic holiday. I cannot recommend this property highly enough, it is exceptional.

An excellent location for exploring the Yorkshire country side. The cottage was well equipped and furnished to a high standard.
December 2009
The owners were extremly helpful. Cottages were convenient for town and Dales. Excellent accommodation for a large party. Children particularly enjoyed the play equipment provided.
March 2010
This was the first time we had rented a cottage and I can highly recommend this one. The location was idilic, the cottage was perfect and the hosts were most accommodating. I loved the peace and quiet, even inside the cottage as I was a bit worried we would hear noise from the farmhouse downstairs, but we never heard a thing. The hosts also provided everything you could think of in the kitchen and there were games and videos to keep us amused when we were snowed in. I just loved it all.

Millstones is a great place to relax, hosts cannot do enough for you and local pubs great for food cannot wait to return

Millstones is a very high standard property situated on the outskirts of a pretty village and at the centre of the Yorkshire Dales. It is in an ideal location to tour the area. We travelled from West to East, Hawes to Whitby, South to North, York to Durham and then Hadrian's Wall, Haltwhistle to Waltwick and back to Gillingwest and our lovely accommodation.
