North Tyne Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Situated in the little hamlet of Warden, this delightful stone-built cottage has been sensitively refurbished and decorated, with a high standard of fixtures and fittings throughout. Comfortable and well equipped, the cottage enjoys an enviable location in the village close to The Boatside Inn - a real draw for those who like to eat out or for parents looking for an evening out close to home. The cottage has two bedrooms, a fitted kitchen and dining area, and a large comfy living room. Fabulous salmon fishing is available on the North and South Tyne rivers and private fishing can be arranged with the owner.

The village of Warden is close to the bustling market town of Hexham and visitors to the cottage shouldn't miss a visit to this pleasant country town. Hexham has plenty to recommend it including numerous antique shops and The Shambles in the market place. Venture further afield and you might find yourself pondering the lot of a Roman soldier (or a marauding Pict) at Hadrian's Wall. Medievalists should head to Hexham Abbey with its Saxon crypt or to Alnwick Castle and Gardens. Those who prefer more natural distractions can enjoy splendid local beaches or walking on Northumberland's Heritage coastline.

Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

The cottage was very well situated for country walks, yet only two miles away from the market town of Hexham with a good range of shops, cafes, weekly markets and historical sites. Lots to see and do.

Could not fault any aspect of our stay. The accommodation was lovely and homely and everyone at the Boatside Inn was so friendly. We went there every night for our evening meal with our dog and all staff were very welcoming. We have found a little gem and hopefully will return.

A spacious, comfortable and very relaxing cottage - probably the best self-catering cottage we have stayed in. We were made extremely welcome by the team at the Boatside Inn, which adjoins the cottage. The Inn had a good atmosphere and it was good to be able to eat there one evening.

The situation and the environment were ideal for the reconnaissance of the area around the Hadrians Wall and the South of Scotland. The pub and its very good and varied kitchen allowed also comfortable evenings. One hardly noticed the passenger trains, only some goods trains. We may come back.
Mrs Holroyd

If you did not fancy cooking the pub and restuarant was next door. Easy access. Three miles to nearest supermarket for self catering supplies.

The cottage was lovely and we would stay again - partly because it is located perfectly to visit friends and family and the owner was very friendly and welcoming.

Really enjoyed this cottage - very comfortable with ample parking space and of course very handy for the nearby Boat Inn pub. The cottage is very handy for some very nice walks and even within walking distance to Hexham with all its shops, facilities, parks and items of historical interest. We even laughed at the proximity of the railway line to the cottage and the master bedroom - can't even put that down as a dislike. Overall, we had an excellent week in this cottage.

It was easy to reach most places. We had a couple of meals at the 'Boatside Inn', which were very good. The owners were very helpful.

August 2005
The cottage was clean, well-equipped, remote enough to get some peace but near enough to get to all the places that we wanted to get to. The people at the Boatside Inn were very pleasant and although we only ate there one night, the food, atmosphere and service was excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this cottage to any other family who were interested.
September 2011
Very pleasant place to stay with a pub serving excellent food on your doorstep. Well placed for Newcastle, Durham and south Northumberland, but a bit far south for Berwick and Lindisfarne.

This was the best cottage ive ever stayed in! I couldnt fault anything. Even the trains didnt bother me. Me and my 10 year old daughter had a wonderful week walking in the countryside, relaxing in the cottage and enjoying the meals in the pub next door. It felt like home. Cant wait to return.

We were aware from the Agents details that the cottage was just a "stone's throw away" from the railway and that we "may experience some associated noise". Maybe we were unlucky, but on both the Monday and Tuesday nights of our first week there were 8 long and very noisy and rattly freight trains passing throughout the night. The main bedroom is on the first floor with a window over the bed directly facing the line. The bed literally vibrates, the trains take from 20sec to 1min to pass and it is impossible to sleep. It was nowhere as bad the other nights, which were mostly quiet, but we still had the ocassional freight trains at something after midnight and at about 6.30am. The little commuter trains during the day are no problem. The owners of the Cottage also own the next door Boatside Inn and their website, which we wish we had seen before booking the cottage, says, "The cottages are close to a railway line, and may give light sleepers some problems". Otherwise the cottage is very comfortable and well equiped. The cuisine in the Inn is excellent. The one star rating is simply because of the freight trains at night which spoilt the holiday for us. The accommodation is 4 star.
