Oak Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Oak Cottage is a detached cottage within the small hamlet of Newhouses, near to the town of Settle in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This cottage sleeps four people and has two bedrooms, consisting of one double and one twin, as well as a family bathroom. The cottage also has a fitted kitchen, a sitting room with a dining area and open fire. To the outside of this cottage, there is off road parking for two cars, a patio to the front of the cottage, and a large sheltered enclosed rear garden with garden furniture and BBQ. Oak Cottage is ideal for a family holiday or romantic retreat and is in a wonderful location for exploring the stunning Yorkshire Dales.

The beautiful village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale is situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is surrounded by spectacular countryside. It has two pubs and the lovely old church of St Oswald's, which was established in the 12th Century and has records dating as far back as 1556. The village is a perfect location for walkers and the famous Three Peaks Walk, Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough offers some very challenging walks. Pot holers and rock climbers are also very well catered for, but if more gentle pursuits are the order of the day then a trip to nearby Settle to sample the tea-rooms and other shops should fit the bill. There are many attractions to visit in this spectacular area and Horton is the ideal village from which to see them.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Electric night storage heaters with open fire in sitting room. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer, tumble dryer, TV, video, CD player. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Travel cot and highchair available on request. Off road parking for 2 cars. South-facing patio to front of cottage and large sheltered, enclosed rear garden with garden furniture and BBQ. Three well-behaved dogs welcome (please note, this property is close to owner's working hill farm). Non smokers preferred. Shops 6 miles, pub 0.5 miles. The location was excellent and the cottage perfect for our needs. The owner was very helpful pre-arrival, and we arrived to a warm welcome. The back garden was very pretty and completely enclosed. It was a lovely introduction to cottage rental, and I'll certainly be choosing this option again.
Mr Older
June 2016
A nice cottage with a lovely garden in a quiet location, Oak Cottage was ideal for a restful break.
Mr Taylor
October 2013
Returned to Oak Cottage for the fourth time. The break was shorter than usual, but it was nice to be back in the peace and solitude of the cottage and the surrounds. Still found plenty to do despite the rainy weather, and walked the 3 peaks on the driest, sunniest day. The nearest pub, the Crown, was still very welcoming, and the food and real ale there as good as ever!
Mr Chaplow
January 2016

Beautiful cosy cottage with lots of character in a stunning location. The owner was friendly and helpful, without being overbearing. Our children and dog were made to feel welcome. A good sign of a holiday cottage is when you feel a bit sad leaving it, which we definitely did!

This was our second stay at Oak Cottage. We like the peace and quiet of the area, the mix of modern and traditional in the cottage and the open fire. The fire was set to light, there were biscuits, tea, coffee, milk and sugar provided - so a warm welcome. The enclosed back garden was great for our dogs and having a dog friendly pub (although dogs in the beer garden only) just a 10 minute walk away was great.
Mrs Beard

August 2012
The setting of the cottage was excellent. It was good to stay in a typical dales cottage. It wasn't decorated in a fussy manner. There was coal and fuel available if we needed it. There was milk and biscuits left for us on arrival. The range of kitchen equipment was very good. We could take both our small dogs. The owners were available but they didn't intrude. The garden was well fenced (which helped with the dogs) and private.
Mrs Maskell

Quiet, peaceful location. The hosts were friendly and very welcoming. The property was suitable for our needs and our two dogs, which in our experience are difficult to accommodate given the amount of properties that do not allow pets. The enclosed garden was perfect to exercise the dogs safely. The cottage was in an excellent location, handy for local amenities.
Mrs Morris

September 2010
The cottage was fantastic, old fashioned but modern at the same time. It was in a lovely location, really handy for walking and a good local pub. We like to take our two small dogs with us on holiday and this cottage was ideal because of the enclosed garden. There was nothing we could not find and the owners had left a helpful folder of information and previous guests had added to it. This was the first time we had stayed in the Dales/Oak Cottage but it will not be the last, we are really looking forward to going back next year.
Mr Close

Friendly locals and a warm welcome.Well presented cottage with old world charm. Quietly tucked away and ideally placed in what can be a busy walking and climbing centre. Handy for the Settle-Carlisle railway. Because of the the Three Peaks this area can get very crowded and it can be dificult to get served in the pubs at peak times, however a small price to pay for the delights of this part of England.

June 2013
It was a cold week but the fire that was already lit in the grate when we arrived was indicative of our welcome. Unlimited coal, central heating, a homely feel and friendly farming folk made this cottage a delight. Our two small dogs loved it too, and they were made welcome despite it being the height of the lambing season. Highly recommended, the cottage was an ideal base for sightseeing or walking in North Yorkshire. We are going back in September!
June 2013
A very homely comfortable cottage. Very clean and well equipt except for a none working wall clock. Loved the cookies.
December 2009
We received good service from Sykes. The cottage was well equipped although a shower in the bathroom would have been nice. The cottage is in a quiet location and plenty of walking from the doorstep. The local pub within walking distance serves very good meals and is a lovely stop off on the way home after a good day walking for a well earned drink!!! The local shop served all the essentials although only a short drive into Settle for the local market and supermarkets. We walked the "three peaks" although on seperate days!! Horton very busy at weekends due to the three peak challenge but quieter in the week. Sheep dog trials in Hawes worth a visit. We liked the peace and quiet the best and apart from the lack of a shower the holiday was perfect.
Mr Astle
April 2009
The location, the solitude and the weather!
Absolutely superb
November 2010
Lovely cottage, lovely location, ideally suited to enjoying the therr peaks and even doing the three peaks challege if you are up to it. Ideal enclosed garden for the dog and kids, very friendly and approachable hosts who would leave you alone but be there if you needed advice on where to go or shop. I would stay there again.
November 2010
In spite of horrendous weather (wet except for two days) we enjoyed the stay very much. Plenty to do in the area.
November 2010
This cottage was just what we wanted. Quaint and modern at the same time. Ideal for people with two dogs. An excellent location in the heart of the three peaks. We managed some wonderful walks and had a really relaxing time. In fact it was so good we have already booked for next august.
January 2010
Really cosy, comfortable, peaceful retreat away from it all. The real coal fire, comfortable furnishings and clean facilities made staying in this cottage an absolute delight. We stayed here for a New Year get away and my husband and I got engaged while hiking and on reaching the summit of Whernside, this cottage is the perfect base for the Yorkshire Three Peaks. We had a wonderful romantic stay and would thoroughly recommend it to other couples and small families.
December 2009
Cosy quiet country cottage, owners very pleasant people, most helpful. I felt our 2 Border Collies were genually welcomed too, not something you come across too often. Cottage is very well equiped everything you need. especially the utility area.
December 2009
The cottage was clean and tidy, the fire was lit when we arrived and the place was nice and warm. There was cake with tea/coffee things waiting for us. The cottage had views of the hills and Penyghent. There was a pub, cafe and shop in the village of Horton in Ribblesdale. Great location for walking and the 3 peaks. Nice peaceful place for a get away from it all weekend.
