The pretty Pennine village of Middleton-In-Teesdale lies in the heart of Teesdale, perched on the riverbank in the beautiful Tees Valley. Situated in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', this is a well-served little settlement and offers a good range of shops, pubs and places to eat. For more specialist amenities, the market town of Barnard Castle is within easy driving distance and provides everything a visitor could possibly need. The surrounding countryside is full of excellent walking opportunities through high, open moorland and pretty wooded valleys. Nearby are the waterfalls of High Force and Cauldron Snout, which are often considered to be amongst the most spectacular sights in the district.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Solid fuel central heating powered by woodburning stove in sitting area. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, washer/dryer in utility, WiFi, TV with Freeview, DVD, radio/CD. The cottage was cosy and warm thanks to the log burner which was all set up lit when we arrived which was a bonus as it was a cold wet day! We especially enjoyed the peace quiet of the location and the fact that the village was an easy walk away. There are also lots of opportunities for dog walking virtually on the doorstep. We also left our own owly addition on the mantelpiece and would love to rebook the cottage again very soon!

Liked the general ambience of the cottage and the area. It felt like going back in time to the 1950's with the pace of life and the smoking chimneys!

Couldn't fault the Cottage, everything was top drawer and the owners welcome pack was the icing on the cake. The location was excellent, and the surroundings perfect for dog walking. The villagers made us very welcome, and was ideally located to visit various attractions with a 10 mile radius.

April 2014
The location of the cottage is perfect, minutes to the centre of the village with its pubs, cafes and shops but also right in the middle of the stunning countryside with a lovely woodland area across the road with a stream our dog loved paddling in. The whole feel of the cottage is so welcoming and homely and the nice touches like a welcome gift for Easter made it really special for us. The bed is one of the comfiest we have ever slept in!!
Mr Fox

The overall ambience of the cottage was so cosy. The owners had thought of almost everything. We tried to find an 'owl' teapot on our travels but unsuccessful! Our first visit to Middleton on Tees, the surrounding area and Owl Cottage will certainly not be our last.

Wonderful cottage, very cosy and compact. Our dog loved lying in front of the wood burner - who would have thought it would keep the cottage so warm. The bed was huge and so comfortable. We and our two labs had five great nights at Owl Cottage and would recommend staying here. The fixtures and fittings are of a very high quality and the log burner is so nice to return to after long walks. Lovely attention to detail (DVDs, logs, quality bed and bedding, kitchen equipment etc). The king size bed was extremely cozy and comfortable! and the modern bathroom and thick carpet very welcome. If you have dogs, find the cafe they are welcome in and the food cooked by the French Chef at The Forresters was as fantastic as at our last visit in 2011.
July 2015
Well equipped, spotlessly clean cottage, with everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Middletin-in- Teesdale is a very charming village with a good atmosphere, everyone we met were very friendly and helpful particullarly people in the surrounding cottages near to where we stayed. Loads of great places to visit and places of interest nearby.Barnard Castle (outstanding fish and chips) and Eggleston Garden nearby, well worth a visit. Owl Cottage is very well maintained to a high standard, would definitely recommend and visit again.

January 2014
Lovely cottage in a brilliant location. The cottage was immaculate throughout and had little extras that made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. Information on local amenities was very helpful and the wood-burner stove had been lit prior to our arrival, making the cottage lovely and warm! We literally do not have any negative comments about the cottage and are already planning our next visit!
December 2013
The cottage was very well decorated and the owner has included all the things you need to make your holiday a relaxing experience. We would recommend Owl Cottage to anyone looking for a nice relaxing break. Short walk to the village, nice places to eat and drink and the locals make you feel very welcome, including your dog if you take one. Excellent places to visit which are a short drive away.
April 2013
Lovely property, immaculate condition - highly recommended
October 2013
What a beautiful property - thoughtfully modernised and decorated. Contact with the owners was excellent and helpful (they even left us a much appreciated pressie for our wedding anniversary - I only asked if there was a vase for some flowers!). The Wenlock burner was on for our arrival and kept the whole cottage warm for our stay. The bed is amazingly comfortable and about 6ft. wide. No promises, but we would like to go back next year - 4 days wasn't enough to enjoy all the Middleton- in-Teesdale area.

April 2013
Wood burner was glowing as we walked into the cottage, very welcoming. The cottage is small but perfect with everything that you could possibly need. The location is brilliant with excellent walks right from the door. The village is just a few minutes walk away, with pub, coop, tourist information centre and various cafes and shops. We had a brilliant time here and would thoroughly recommend it. A down side for some is that it has no WiFi and no secure garden or yard for dog owners.
December 2012
It was everything we wanted and would have received 5 stars but for the following reason. Carrying the microwave from a cupboard to sit on the dining table was annoying. Better planning would have found a permanent place for the device. We know Middleton from previous visits and were, even so, pleasently surprised by the the decent cafes we found and of course the lovely Teesdale itself. Excellent value for money. Recommended
