Piteaduie Castle Cottage description

Set in the peaceful grounds of Piteadie House, surrounded by farmland and with super views, this well-presented, yet cosy holiday home, with all the up-to-date appliances, is a beautiful spot for friends and family looking to relax and enjoy this splendid area. Semi-detached to outbuildings only, it is situated only a short hop from both Edinburgh and St Andrews, you can enjoy days out, or explore the owner’s eight acre ’mini estate’, complete with woodland, a ruined castle, unspoilt countryside and spectacular views looking out over to the Firth of Forth and across to Edinburgh. Enjoy a picnic in the grounds and admire the ruins of medieval Piteadie Castle, which dates back to the late 14th Century, and sits in its walled courtyard. It features in Nigel Tranter’s novel, The Lion’s Whelp, which can be read during your stay. It still boasts the original round arched gateway with a coat of arms and the date of 1686 and initials W.C, for the then owner William Calderwood, an apothecary and burgess of Edinburgh.
Indulge in some serious stargazing at night, or simply enjoy the delightful grounds which are home to an abundance of wildlife including pheasants, buzzards, owls, woodpeckers, hares, deer, foxes and a nightjar! Enjoy local country walks to the well-known Kissing Trees and Kinghorn Loch, walk the Fife Coastal Path or try the Fife cycle route, which are all close by. Further afield and within easy reach, explore Aberdour, Burnt Island and Kirkcaldy. The former are part of the ’Fife Riviera’ and Kirkcaldy has lovely parks, where there is also a friendly, weekly 5km park run, and the esplanade looking over the Firth, with a good selection of shops, a super museum and art gallery, the Adam Smith theatre and a sandy beach.
There is golf at Aberdour and Kirkcaldy, and St Andrews, the home of golf, is only 26 miles away. The charming fishing villages of East Neuk are also within easy driving distance and the local railway station has links to major cities and towns, with Edinburgh just 25 minutes. The Forth Road Bridge and Deep Sea World are 12 miles away. No matter what you choose to do during your stay, Piteadie Castle Cottage awaits your return with the bright lounge complete with a wood burner.
