Pond Cottage description

Holiday home
To the south of the Isle of Wight sits Yafford, and within this peaceful hamlet lies Pond Cottage, in the grounds of the owner's farmhouse and just a mile from the sea. The cottage is set next to an attractive large pond, and has been converted from an 18th Century barn, retaining much character including exposed beams and trusses, wooden floors and stone walls. The well-equipped kitchen has a dining area, the sitting room is cosy and comfortable and the bedrooms, one double and one twin with an additional folding bed, are set up in the eaves. There is cycling, walking and birdwatching nearby, or simply relax in the private garden.

To the south of the lovely Isle of Wight is the hamlet of Yafford, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a great place for birdwatchers or walkers to make their base for a holiday. Cyclists are well catered for with the 'Round the Island' cycle route which runs through Yafford itself. There are beaches within easy reach, such as Atherfield or Ventnor, while Blackgang and Shanklin Chine, pretty Brighstone village, the resorts of Sandown or Ryde and indeed most of this terrific Island can be reached in less than an hour by car.

The Isle of Wight, with its beaches, unspoiled scenery, rich heritage and over 500 miles of award-winning public footpaths is a walker's paradise, or if sailing is your thing, the renowned annual Cowes Week is not to be missed.

The space inside the property was excellent for two couples and a toddler. We liked the quiet location but easy access to all of the island, and the owners were very helpful.

The owners were very friendly and gave helpful advice when asked. We loved the spaciousness of the cottage and the waxed wood everywhere inside - on the floors, up the stairs and on the walls lining the stone cottage which made it very cosy. The downstairs walk-in shower room was great and the modern yet farmhouse feel kitchen was well equipped.

The cottage was amazing and the location was perfect. It was so quiet and tucked away, yet so close to all the main resorts and near the gorgeous Colwell Bay. We thought the Isle of Wight was beautiful and still so quaint and unspoilt. We actually think your photos did not do the property justice. There was so much thought to everything there. The cottage was so well equipped with everything you needed including iron, ironing board, airier, condiments and cooking oil etc. The leaflets, videos and games were a great idea too. The garden was spacious and lovely with the vine. It felt very much like home! We would definitely recommend this to family and friends and will definitely go to this cottage again.

The cottage was perfect for a weeks holiday. Lots of room for 4 adults. So quiet and relaxing, perfect for walking to the beach. Pub and restaurant five minutes on the motorbike. What a great place to relax in and take away the stress of life.

The whole experience was magical. The location was peaceful, and the building had the wow factor. The owners were always very friendly and helpful. There was useful and interesting information on the location on the bookshelves. Everything we needed and more was at hand. Over 7 days we had no trouble finding different wonderful walking locations every day. There was a good small store in Chale Green (5 miles) with a friendly surprise cafe and garden at the rear. The nearer village stores were not visited. There were too many more good points to fit here.

Beautifully decorated cottage with unusually large communal space. Proprietors very welcoming to people and dog without being intrusive. Location of cottage very rural with no through traffic, ideal for children and dogs. We are planning to stay at Pond Cottage again in the future and would highly recommend it to our friends.

The property is of a high speculation and ideal for family and pets.

Well situated, apparently a little spartan, but in fact very comfortable and well thought out, this cottage had few snags one could think of. If one were slightly disabled, the internal stairs, and the steps into and out of the bedrooms might have been a bother - but I am slightly disabled, and coped well enough: simply had to be a bit careful.
