My dad and I decided on a winter break for a change so we could visit the Lake District and we liked the look of Puddle Duck Lodge from the start. It might look small on the outside but it was surprisingly big inside. We enjoyed the views across the lake from the many windows in the lodge and we were visited each night by rabbits! There is a large open plan living area with dining facilities, lounge and kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked with cutlery, dishes and condiments, and there was hot water available at all times. For cooking you have the choice of oven and microwave along with a large fridge and freezer for the food you might want to bring. The entire lodge has a huge amount of cupboard space with each room, plus a small selection of games, books and dvds. We were happy to find a drawer full of leaflets for places to visit which we made use of as well as a useful welcome folder. I was worried that I might find it cold, the way caravans can be in winter but the lodge was very cosy to return to after a cold day of sightseeing. There is adjustable central heating and a fire in the living area which is very warm so you need have no worries about being cold whenever you visit. The beds were comfortable and we slept like logs for the entire week, plus the bathrooms were spacious. I have no complaints about anything in the lodge and we both very much enjoyed everything that it had to offer.
Carnforth is just a few minutes drive away where you can find Tesco and Aldi which is very useful if you don't plan on eating out. You are also close to several other shops and petrol stations and just a few minutes from the M6. We used the lodge as a base to visit all the main lakes, various wildlife places like RSPB Leighton Moss and Lakeland Wildlife Oasis which are short drives away on the A6, plus the Lakeland Motor Museum at Newby Bridge. We didn't have time to see everything we wanted so on our next visit we have the options of various nearby towns, the Cumbria and Lancashire coasts and the Yorkshire Dales. You are spoiled for choice with places to visit! Perhaps if we choose a different time of year we can do some boat trips on the lakes.
This was a really great holiday. We were lucky to be there from the 20th-27th so we avoided the flooding and storms. Yes it was cold at the lakes but we were well wrapped up and the weather was never going to get in our way! We really look forward to our next visit to the area next year and we certainly want to stay at Puddle Duck Lodge again!
