The location of the cottage was perfect and the owner was on site to greet us, nothing was any trouble for her. The cottage was very clean and tidy and was a home from home. It was peaceful and tranquil, we will return.

We had a friendly welcome from the owner, and it was quite the best cottage we have stayed in. Lots of information was available. It was very well furnished and comfortable, and in a quiet and scenic location. The whole package was very good, and judging by the comments in the visitors book, this appeared to be the opinion of previous holiday occupants.

The cottage was well equipped and cosy. The bedrooms were designed to a high standard and comfortable. The owner went out of her way to accommodate my children and give ideas of local things to do. We spent our time walking the hills, mining for gems in the river and enjoying the wildlife which was in its abundance. We look forward to returning.

The standard of decor is very high with many homely touches. A very comfortable cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had a warm and exceptionally friendly welcome from the cottage owner. It is in a peaceful location and the cottage facilities were excellent. There were many interesting places to visit locally and it was centrally based for visits to other nearby counties. This was our second visit to Riverside Cottage and we look forward to visiting again in the future.

The cottage and location were excellent, but we were really impressed by the friendliness of the people wherever we went. It was a very good base for walking and visiting Newcastle and Durham.

Location was central to what we wanted to do. The isolation was fantastic, local people friendly, views were amazing and the ability to visit many local attractions through beautiful scenery was superb.

I booked this trip at the very last minute and I am just so grateful that it was available. The property is located in a deep valley in the pennines (so don't expect phone signal!), Rookhope itself is a quaint village, and it is easy to get around to the surrounding areas. The cottage is extremely comfortable, and an ideal place to relax after long walks. I traveled with my two brothers and we all were really happy with the accommodation. It's a great mix of traditional character and modern amenities. If the outdoors are your thing then this is a great base, we went walking every day - you can start at the doorstep or easily travel elsewhere (e.g. Derwent reservoir 20 mins away), I went on a run around the surrounding hills every day also as it was just so spectacular, we also enjoyed renting bicycles from Weardale (10 mins away). Although we did not meet Nicola (property owner) she left a lovely impression, she provided us with perfect directions and information about the immediate area along with a fantastic welcome hamper that I will leave to be a surprise for future bookers! Oh and finally the shower was really powerful, I was reluctant to get out!

The cottage was a last minute booking and we landed well and truly on our feet. the cottage is brand new - ie completely refurbished and therefore in superb order. Comfort is the order of the day. Complimentary dressing gowns, a hamper of 'freebies' on arrival and a very welcoming owner in Nicola. Rookhope is remote but set in the beautiful Weardale valley but very close to all the North East's main attractions eg Hardian's Wall, Beamish Museum, Durham, North Pennines, Northumberland, and an hour to Alnwick castle and the beautiful Northumbrian coast. We were made exceptionally welcome by Nicola and our 7 year old daughter loved feeding the ponies in the adjacent field. Whilst the river is nearby the cottage, in our opinion, is very safe for children. The 5 minute walk to the pub is also a minor adventure if one goes the scenic route but worth the amble. We loved it and genuinely would return to stay at Riverside Cottage.
