Roseberry House description

Holiday home
This beautifully restored Georgian house is spread over three floors and has kept many of its original features such as stained glass windows, high ceilings, doors and fireplaces and the house has two staircases leading up to each floor, one of them being the servants' stairway at the back. The five bedrooms are spacious, elegant and peaceful. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite shower, with a further bathroom and a ground floor shower room serving the property. A range cooker takes pride of place in the fantastic dining kitchen and both sitting rooms boast a fireplace and offer comfortable and inviting living spaces. The whole property exudes character and charm and would make a marvellous base for a large family get together and to see this wonderful area.

The ancient fishing port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is well placed for exploring this beautiful part of Yorkshire's stunning countryside and spectacular coastline. Whitby is a fascinating town with winding streets and alleyways waiting to be explored, the magnificent Abbey looks down onto the town and the long climb up the 199 steps is well worth the effort. The sandy beaches are safe and popular with families intent on seaside fun and games. Whitby has many other attractions but is also within easy reach of other coastal towns and villages as well as the glorious countryside of the North Yorkshire Moors and towns like Pickering and York. This town is a great base for a holiday in this wonderful part of Britain.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

There was six of us in 3 couples and we all able to have double rooms which is not easy to find. The house was extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need. We have not one complaint about anything. Well done Roseberry owners.
July 2013
Housekeeper was friendly and left cookies and tea/coffee The house was beautiful inside and was very roomy. It was perfect for our large 3generation family. Location was ideal set back from the main street but within a minute walking distance from bakery and butchers. It was great for cooking and was very roomy for relaxing and eating all together. We liked the comfy beds & secret stair cases. The house had lots of charector however had all modern amenities.
December 2013
We were celebrating my husband's 60th Birthday. 10 adults in all, (our 4 children and their partners). The location was ideal, Whitby is a lovely place to visit, Roseberry House was ideally situated for everything we needed to make it a very special occasion.
May 2014
I booked this for my wife's 50th Birthday in Feb and friends travelled up from kings Lynn. The house was perfect big enough for the 12 of us without being over crowded. We got a friendly welcome visit to explain all about the house and asked if we required any further help which I though was a nice touch. The house is situated conveniently close to Local Pubs (Which we loved by the way)and shops. We had everything we needed in the house and it was very comfortable. We had a fantastic weekend and would definitely look to book again. We

I cannot recommend this accommodation really has the wow factor from the minute you walk through the is tastefully decorated immaculately clean, spacious and well equipped,we were a party of 12 ladies celebrating a friend's birthday and the house was a perfect base in a great central location, with parking for 3 cars ( the owners also provided parking permits for other cars in the party) The owners communicated brilliantly before our stay and the housekeeper had left us tea and biscuits as a lovely welcome gesture..... Don't let the cost put you off as divided between the 12 of us it was probably cheaper than staying in a bed and breakfast and it was lovely to have all that space and to come and go as we wanted......I didn't want to leave ( I did consider squatting lol ) we will definitely book Roseberry House again
October 2014
Ideal holiday home for a large group, plenty of space for children to play, without getting under adults feet. Kitchen table is awesome, spend a large of nights round it playing games, we had a great time, and would recommend to anyone who asked. Every one said Comfy beds in all rooms, no problems getting showers with 3. Parking a cross the road a bonus. Also in a quiet area. We had had various houses in whitby in the last ten years, the family said this was the best.

There was plenty of space in the house for a large group. Enough seats for everyone, and the bedrooms were lovely, well cared for and airy. They were also very quiet, those retiring earlier than the others were not bothered by those still up. The parking spots opposite were a boon in such a compact little town.
May 2014
A beautiful house in a great location that was well equipped - couldn't fault in any way.
Mrs Lindsay

There was a great area for the children to play in the house, and a great kitchen, where we spent most of the time at night. The massive table was brilliant. Parking also a bonus. Also the weather was great, and no coats needed. Octobers before we have had snow, sea mist and rain. Already booked again for next October.

The property was not only very centrally located but was laid out in such a manner that our party of 9, 7 to 75 years, had plenty of space to spread out. Whitby is a gem, a town full of independent shops, good restaurants and friendly locals. Most refreshing!

April 2012
A lovely property, full of character, with attractive decor. It was ideal for three generations of a family ranging from 2 to 70+ - the younger ones loved the secret staircase. The big family kitchen and 2 lounges offered plenty of space. The location was excellent - a quiet square, near shops and with an easy walk down to the harbour or to the beach. Having parking for 3 cars was also a bonus.
Mr Steele
August 2012
The house is situated in excellent position for shops, lovely tea rooms, beach, harbour. We had a fabulous Golden Wedding week, which we celebrated with our family (10 of us) aged 72 down to 20 month old twins! Our best holiday yet. 3 car parking spaces much appreciated.

Mr O'keefe
July 2011
We had a fantastic two weeks in sunny Whitby. The house was massive but was well furnished throughout. The welcome pack of milk, teabags and biscuits was well received as we arrived late on Friday night. The ladies came in at the end of week one and changed our sheets. It was a very large but quiet house no noise at all apart from the seagulls. I would highly recommend this house for a big family holiday. It was great!
Mrs Swallow
December 2010
The house was lovely and spacious and had two sitting rooms so you could have a quiet room and a rowdy room if you wished. Even though the property sleeps 12 you are never on top of one another and it has some great period features and quirks.
November 2010
The house was wonderful and could not be faulted.
Mrs Cooper
November 2010
An excellent property overall. Well situated for the town's facilities and yet very quiet. In general, furnished and decorated to a very high standard.
Mrs Hunt
November 2010
This is a fabulous property that accommodated 12 of us quite comfortably. It is superbly located in the centre of Whitby with all amenities on your doorstep. The infamous Bothams Bakery and cafe is a minute's walk away and we had a pick of many pubs within a very short walk. The sea front is easily reached although it does takes a bit longer to return up the hill. When we arrived there was a lovely warm welcome with chocolate and biscuits awaiting us. As we were there in the midst of winter it was nice to have good heating; we were always nice and toasty warm. Whitby is a great holiday location even in the winter. I would definitely recommend this holiday home to people, as would all of our guests who were all suitably impressed.
Mr Jones
May 2013
A beautiful house with tasteful decorations. Plenty of parking, we managed to get 4 cars parked in the spaces provided which in a town center is a bonus. A fabulous location right near the shops and bakers(great for breakfast). Not far from beach and harbour we will be visiting again!

April 2015
We stayed in Roseberry House for the weekend in April. We were a group of 9, with no youngsters. We found the house to be perfect for us. Lots of space, in a quirky layout meant we could rove around with out getting in each others' way. The bedrooms were spacious and quiet. Even if the others were still up, not a sound disturbed anyone who had retired for the night! 2 great sitting rooms - each with a big flat screen tv would be ideal for a group with teenagers (there's wifi for them too) but we all fitted in both perfectly, so just had to choose which one we felt like sitting in. Everything was clean and well cared for. Don't be intimidated by the warnings on the macerator bathrooms - just use a bit of common sense and it's all fine. If you had young children with you, prams and strollers etc. could be parked in the utility room out of the way - also, a good place for wet wellies or buckets and spades if needs be! And there's a little sunny courtyard at the back for buckets of shells or other beach finds. We didn't do much in the way of "self catering" - but if you were inclined to use the range stove, we're sure you would find every thing you would need. It's in a great location for "down town" Whitby, so eating out is very easy, just a stroll to the harbourside places and a great tea/coffee shop at the bottom of the street. Parking is not really an issue as there are 3 dedicated parking places just over the road, but the house is in such a fab location, we did not use our cars during our stay. All in all this is a great house for large groups of any combination. You can split up into smaller groups if you want to, or stay together in the lounges. There are various configurations of doubles and twins to accommodate a wide range of combinations of families, friends, couples and children. It's handy for everything and won't break the bank. A top house and we would not hesitate to return.
Mr Vigurs
August 2010

October 2010
We would enthusiastically recommend this property! It's a lovely period house of real character, ideal for a large group, and very well located for shops and Whitby's many other attractions. It was nice that the housekeeper called round to make sure we had everything we needed.

Central position yet very quiet. Lots of space, nice big rooms - ideal for big parties. Two lounges - one for children/games, the other for adults/TV. Attractive ornaments and artwork made it homely. Lovely bedding/duvets/pillows.

October 2009
The property was in an excellent location, and all facilities perfectly described. The owners of the property left a welcome card and gifts of chocolates and biscuits, which was a really nice touch. We had a visit from the housekeeper to make sure we had everything we needed, which was again very welcome and extremely nice of them.
Mrs Rawstron

Really lovely property, all rooms were of a high standard. Nice decoration and styling. Ample parking. Great location. Lovely touch to get card, biscuits and chocolates.
April 2015
9 of us (all adults) stayed in Roseberry House for a long weekend. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. The house is very spacious & warm with 2 lounges and a large well equipped kitchen. The owner even left us tea, milk & biscuits for our arrival. The bedrooms are all beautifully decorated and comfortable and there are plenty of toilets & bathrooms to avoid queuing! Only one thing to watch out for is that towels are not provided. The house is situated within easy walking distance of the town, pubs, restaurants & attractions so we didn't move the cars until we left to go home (which we were glad about as the narrow Whitby streets are a bit of a challenge to navigate). Would definitely recommend the house and would love to return.
October 2015
As a family group, we have stayed in Whitby 9 years in a row. This was our second stay at Roseberry and we have already booked for next year. We love it! The house has everything we need and is so spacious and comfortable. We range in age from 65 to almost 2 and all fit in so well. The kitchen with its extra large farmhouse table easily sits 10 or more and has everything you could need. There are two large sitting rooms which means we can use one for the children to spread out with their toys and one can be for the grown ups. Large bedrooms are excellent for family sharing and there are 3 bathrooms plus an extra loo so never any queuing! The little yard outside is a lovely suntrap and excellent for drying the washing (or you can use the inside airer in the utility room). All in all its fantastic.
June 2015
We booked Roseberry House for a family holiday. The house had to accommodate 8 adults and two small children. It was fantastic! Not only is the position in Whitby ideal, only a few minutes walk from restaurants, shops, pubs etc, but also from the harbour. The house contained everything we needed, the rooms were large and well furnished, making each room, including the bedrooms extremely comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with more than enough of everything to keep us going. The welcome pack was lovely and really made us feel at home. A great house that we would not hesitate to book again.
December 2014
Superb, well appointed, warm, spacious house. We stayed over Christmas, with family (6adults and 3 children) and found Roseberry House a home from home for us all. Great facilities and a superb location. Loved exploring Whitby. Would def recommend.

March 2015
Stayed here with 7 friends - all female - and we had a wonderful time. You will want for nothing if you stay here. The house has everything you need and it is so near the shops, pubs, restaurants and the beach, with wonderful walks in Whitby and the surrounding areas. Definitely recommend to anyone.
April 2015
We stayed for Easter week at Roseberry House with the family (ages 12-83). The house was wonderful, loads of room, comfy beds, two sitting rooms and a well equipped kitchen. It is situated in a great spot in the town with everything a short walk away. Once there we didn't need the cars at all! Bothams Bakery and Tea Shop is a minute away, 5 mins to the Whale Arch, tea rooms and shops on the doorstep and a short stroll to the Abbey. There is plenty to do for everyone. The house is one of the best we have stayed in over years of Holiday Houses! We had everything we needed, it was warm and comfortable and prettily decorated. We appreciated the welcome gifts and the house was immaculately clean. We are definitely going back!,

July 2012
Plenty of space for all 9 of us, bright, airy, well maintained, and clean. Close to all amenities (good pub and amazing bakery/tearooms round the corner). 5 minutes walk from the beach, 3 minutes walk from lovely park and 2 minutes from the shops with plenty to keep everybody amused. Nice welcome from housekeepr and owner. Our visitors were very impressed by the house and have no hesitation in recommending this lovely house to friends and family.
December 2011
Wonderful setting, right in the heart of Whitby with breathtaking coastal walks. Also an easy drive into the Yorkshire Moors. A lovely house - cosy and warm, well equipped for everyone. The owners had thought about everything - from four bottle openers, to child's step for the sink! A perfect family home for relaxation, entertainment and the two living rooms which was ideal when some people wanted peace and quiet and others films, tv or games.
April 2015
Stayed here with friends and family. A great time was had by all. Lovely packets of local biscuits waiting for us on our arrival. The kitchen table is huge and is a great place for a big group to eat, make plans and play the occasional board game! The bedrooms are spacious and vey well decorated. The lounges are big enough for everyone to be accommodated in one room if you want. The location is ideal being close to shops, restaurants and the station. I would highly recommend staying here if you are a large group. Being super picky the two saniflow loos are a little noisy but you could use one of the other two loos! Oh room to park 3 cars, that is a big bonus in Whitby.
February 2010
We spent Christmas in this wonderful Georgian house, which easily accommodated 7 adults and 4 children, with ages ranging from 2 to 93! It is centrally located just off the main shopping street in Whitby, and the accommodation is spacious, warm, very well-furnished and decorated. Two living rooms meant that television or the Wii could be accessed simultaneously. The kitchen was a bit of a squeeze for cooking and serving Christmas dinner but making sure everything we needed was out of the fridge-freezer and oven before people sat down at the table solved most problems! For a winter holiday the lack of outside space was not a problem and the beach is only a few minutes walk away. There is plenty to do in and around Whitby even in December. The children enjoyed the walk up to the abbey, playing on the beach and collecting pebbles and shells, and also spent an afternon pottery painting. Most shops were open and there was plenty of teashops to warm up in after a bracing walk. The snwy weather meant that we were unable to explre the surrounding area as much as we would have liked to but means that we have even more reasons to return to Roseberry House in the summer.
