Rothay Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
Rothay Cottage is a terraced cottage in a quiet lane close to the centre of Ambleside in the Lake District National Park. The cottage sleeps four people and has one double bedroom, one twin and a family bathroom. There is also a fitted kitchen and a second floor sitting room with superb views. Outside is a patio area with outdoor furniture. Just a short stroll from the town centre, Rothay Cottage is a wonderful base for discovering the superb Lake District region.

Given its excellent position at the northern tip of Lake Windermere - England's largest lake - Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes. The town itself is famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th Century 'Bridge House' - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Rothay Cottage was superb and it had a very homely feel to it. I would recommend this cottage for it's central position in Ambleside. All in all a great time was had by all and the weather was great too.

In a good location, we enjoyed the view from the 2nd floor sitting room. We were able to do lots of lovely things, including enjoying the lake trips and National Trust properties nearby. The Mountain Goat trip was a highlight as we saw so much on the day trip.

The cottage was freshly refurbished. Very generously sized for 4 people. Kitchen/diner area was particularly spacious. The cottage is in a nice location in Ambleside. A minute from the shops, yet quiet, and away from the hustle and bustle.

Excellent central, but very quiet, and peaceful location. Fantastic view from lounge.

August 2013
The cottage was clean and very well presented to make it welcoming. It was well furnished. It felt like home away from home. It is in a perfect location for accessing local places and central for venturing our further afield. We particularly found the availability of information leaflets about the area and activities very useful.

A very nice cottage, really close to the city center, with a wonderful view on the city from the second floor. The bedroom for the parents, the WC, and the bathroom are on the first floor. The bedroom for the children, and the living-room are on the second floor. With young children the stairs could be a problem especially during the night if they want to go to the toilets. We would have appreciated more cooking utensils and something to hang up the laundry, but that's because we have young children. Otherwise this cottage was really nice and clean.

A little gem of a house tucked away but very close to all Ambleside amenities. Very well equipped and comfortable. Thoroughly recommend.
