Rotherwood Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
Rotherwood Cottage is a spacious family property in the village of Darley Dale, a mile from Matlock. This cottage has a four poster double and a further double on the first floor, with three inter-linked twins with sloping ceilings on the second floor. There is a bathroom on the first floor, and an additional basin and WC downstairs. Also downstairs is a kitchen, utility, dining room and sitting room with gas fire. Outside, relax in the walled garden while the children play on the play equipment. There is also ample off road parking. The village in which Rotherwood Cottage lies has a good pub, and there are more amenities in Matlock and Bakewell, which, along with the superb countryside and historic houses within easy reach, makes this an ideal family retreat.

The delightful market town of Matlock on the edge of the White Peak offers many buildings of architectural interest, including an impressive parish church. The National Stone Centre, ancient "jitties" and courtyards, and the wonderful surrounding countryside including Carsington Water and the High Peak Trail are all waiting to be explored. Wirksworth is the home of the lively carnival that celebrates the ancient Derbyshire tradition of Well Dressing, and the annual Arts festival attracts international performers of every kind. There are many opportunities for some great outdoor pursuits around here, including rock climbing, cycling and walking. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Matlock Bath and its cable car, Gulliver's Kingdom, and the newly restored Ecclesbourne Valley Railway are all close by. Wirksworth provides a great location for an enjoyable and varied holiday.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

The cottage was very warm and cosy. The beds were extremely comfortable. The size of the interior was excellent for our family of 6 adults and 4 children with space to chill out if needed. We all had a fantastic time celebrating our Golden Wedding.

The cottage was lovely and we really enjoyed our stay there. Much nicer than the pictures on line, which made it look a little old fashioned when in reality the furnishings were very modern. The location was great as it was in beautiful countryside but not isolated - with a train station and massive Sainsburys nearby as well as a lovely town - Matlock - within walking distance/short drive. Owners were really nice and helpful and live near enough to sort out problems quickly should you need them to.

8 adults and 2 children in the property. The photo shows the back of the property. It is on a main road and the turn is sharp. Easy parking for 2 cars - 3 with care depending on size. Lovely living room and kitchen with dining seats for 8. The main bedrooms on the first floor are really lovely. The top floor rooms, as it says on description have low ceiling as they are converted attic. Middle room has stairs to it and there is a room on either side. Beds ok but under eaves so not great if you feel claustrophobic. The top rooms get really hot too but there are velux Windows - there were lots of flies when we went. Steep stairs One bathroom with bath and shower. Downstairs toilet with sink so can take a while for 10 people to get showered! Great garden with play frame Wi-fi, bedding and towels included

From the description I thought the garden would be behind the house and so protected from some of the traffic noise, but it isn't. It's right on the road. And the turning out of the parking area my mum struggled with. We had 3 adults and 3 kids and I wouldn't recommend any more people than this. It's a got two good doubles and then a converted loft with restricted height of three small interconnecting twin rooms. Fine for kids who wake each other up. It could do with a good clean (stained carpets, dusty under beds, blocked shower etc). Also there are some board games/kids games etc but the pieces are missing or broken. It's just not very well looked after. The guy with the keys was brusk about a time to meet him (on his terms not mine), and when I had to call him about the electrics sockets not working was rude and suggested it was my fault. We had a lovely week, but anyone thinking of staying here might want to be aware of some of this.

Was worried our large family group would have enough room, but no problem. Kitchen well stocked pots, pans, etc easy to cater. Large oven, additional fitted oven, 2 microwaves, 2 fridges and dishwasher. Useful utility area. Comfy seats for all in lounge, lovely warm house with endless hot water. Nice walk to pub about 15 minutes to choice of 2. 15 minutes in car to the stunning nine maidens stone circle. Good location for peaks and Chatsworth.

We hired Rotherwood Cottage to stay with our five children-7 of us in total. The cottage sleeps 10 so there was plenty of room for us all. The kitchen and dining room were a suitable size for us as was the patio table although we might have struggled to seat 10 around both the dining room and patio tables. The climbing frame, in the garden, was a big hit with our younger children and we enjoyed sitting on the patio. Rotherwood Cottage is well situated for Matlock and the Peak District. A lock on the bathroom door would have been a bonus!
