Rowan House Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Rowan House is a stone built house in an elevated hillside position about one mile from the village of Giggleswick close to Settle, on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. With one double room, two twin bedrooms and a family bathroom, this cottage can sleep six people. The rest of the accommodation is made up of a fitted kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with a fireplace and a stove. Outside the cottage are a shared garden and a private sitting area with outdoor furniture, as well as plenty of off road parking. With two other cottages on site, Rowan House can sleep sixteen people making it suitable for large family groups who want to explore this beautiful part of the country.

Set below a limestone scar in the Craven Fault, the lovely Ribblesdale village of Giggleswick is just across the river from the bustling market town of Settle. With a variety of traditional houses and cottages, many of which date back to the 17th Century as the 'date stones' over their doorways will confirm, this charming village is still centred around the beautiful St Alkelda's church, a 12th Century construction, and the famous domed chapel at Giggleswick School. With a handful of shops and pubs, the village provides the bare essentials but for a wider range of amenities visitors should take a trip to nearby Settle, which is within easy walking distance. The town of Ingleton is also close by and is worth visiting for its splendid waterfall walk.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Electric storage heaters with stove in sitting room. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge, automatic washer/dryer, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, DVD, CD player. Electricity and 1 bag of fuel for stove inc. in rent. Bed linen inc. in rent. Cot and highchair available. Large garden (shared with property refs 652 & 993) and private sitting area with garden furniture. Ample off road parking. Two well-behaved dogs welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 1 mile.

Rowan House was warm and cosy at all times, with excellent heating-essential in February! Clean and well maintained with good selection of crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. It was set in an excellent location for walks and days out, with absolutely stunning views from the garden and the house itself. Our whole family loved the week here and I would recommend it to others without hesitation. Dog friendly house too so the whole family can come on holiday!

Location, Location, Location! It was A Plus on every level for us, truly like home away from home, so much so we only ate out once. Views from the property are fantastic and the sunrises were fantastic, great star gazing. There were walks literally on the doorstep, 5 minutes walk and the scenery opens like you have been stretching your legs for a good half hour or more. We will be back, nothing surer.

Absolutely fantastic!!! The house was wonderful and the owners were amazingly helpful. I will be going back for longer in the future and the whole experience was great. This was due to the high level of equipment and utilities in the house and the fact the owners just left us to it, there was no signing for anything, just turn up and enjoy. Great holiday break.

Peaceful, relaxing cottage, very comfortable for families. Lovely location, lots of attractions within reach. I guess most would have to be just the comfortable feel of the cottage, which was great - it felt like a friend's home.

The situation of the cottage is perfect - the view from the garden and bedrooms is wonderful. The cottage is out of the village and peaceful, and a perfec centre for touring the area. Even the Lake District is a short drive away. The Black Horse Hotel serves perfect food and Vince and his father make perfect hosts. The food is fantastic! The owners are helpful when needed without being intrusive. Your service - confirmations, etc and your brochure are first class and we will use you again.

We stayed at Rowan house with four friends and had a relaxing short break. We were greeted by the owner and made to feel very welcome. The accommodation was clean and plenty of room for the six of us. The surroundings are breath taking and great for walking. We sampled the food of the local pubs in Giggleswick and Settle which were of a very high standard. Overall we had a fantastic time and would recommend Rowan House to anybody, we will be visiting again!

December 2004

Mr Hodgson
December 2004
The views and immediate access to fells give a feeling of being away from it all but with the benefits of a large town almost on the doorstep.
January 2013
A very beautiful idyllic country cottage. It is perfectly situated with amazing views. A very warm, comfortable and homely cottage. We will surely be returning for another stay.
September 2012
Beautiful location, breathtaking views, very well equipped and spacious property. Two minor niggles that may seem unimportant in the summer but become more important in inclement weather. Firstly the tumble dryer doesn't work, which is frustrating and secondly for a cottage that sleeps at least 6 people, and especially when the tumble dryer doesn't work, you need more drying facilities than one small heated towel rail in the downstairs cloakroom. This is especially important in wet weather when pets are staying and their coats/towels etc need drying. Other than that lovely cottage.
Mrs Jenkins
December 2004
The cottage was warm, comfortable and very well equipped, very easy for self-catering. The owner was very accommodating and friendly. The area was beautiful, with plenty of scope for local walks. Settle had a good variety of shops, excellent tourist information and a large new supermarket, with even a fresh fish stall! All in all we had a very enjoyable and restful break.
Mr & Mrs Clark
December 2004
The garden was quite good for the children but would have been better if it had been fully enclosed. The location was great for setting off on walks on the moors.
August 2016
Great location and fantastic views. The garden is a delight with early morning wild life and the accommodation is exceptional. Clean, well presented and well equipped. Only a short drive into Settle and a great base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. A must do is the Settle to Carlisle railway across the famous ribble viaduct. Unfortunately for us the steam loco wasn't running on this occasion. We are returning in September as there are many areas to visit that this week could not accommodate. Highly recommended.
November 2010
The cottage was located ideally for walking from the door step and for exploring the surrounding area. The cottage was well furnished and comfortable however there were not enough seats in the living room for the number of people the property could accomodate. The fire in the living room was lovely in the evening and both of us and our dogs had a lovely relaxing week.
December 2009
The cottage is spacious and well equipped. The open fire is a great focal point of the living room, but even without it the house was always warm and homely, even on chilly October evenings. Access to the Dales for walking is great - literally cross the road from the cottage and you're walking in countryside with some breathtaking views. The view of the escarpment from the bedroom window is also amazing. It's also a great base for exploring other places - the lakes are only about half an hour away, and Malham Cove is particularly worth a visit. A five-minute trip to Settle gets you to a supermarket for supplies, and there are also plenty of other little shops and eateries. Overall a great place to stay with the family.
July 2010
This was our family 'Christmas' get together as due to circumstances we were unable to celebrate in December. We have visited many self catering Properites before but the facilities, equipment and comfort at this cottage was the best. We managed to cook a full Christmas lunch ! Which in someone Else's kitchen as you can Imagne does not always go well, but our every need was catered for. It was in a beautiful, peaceful setting and was relaxing for all
February 2010
Our annual Christmas trip with friends this year was at Rowan House. What a great choice!!! the location was to die for, with breathtaking views from the house, the house itself has a private garden which, lucky for the kids, was covered in snow and provided great entertainment. The house was lovely, very warm and well-equipped, the nearby village of Giggleswick was adorable and i would definately love a return visit....
December 2009
Excellent 10/10
December 2009
The cottage was really big inside which was excellent as we had 2 labs and 2 grandaughters with us. All facilities were spot on but what made it trully memorable was the location. Lovely walk to the local pub and didn't encounter any traffic in the entire week we were there. Owners are really friendy and we enjoyed fresh eggs every day. Grandaughters loved the cockerel, ducks rabbits sheep and owners dogs. We are definately returning 2010 and I would think every year after. Highly recommended 11 out of 10.
Tilly and Big Bear
December 2009
Rowan House is a spacious and well equipped holiday home in a magnificent setting, out in the countryside, but with all the amenities of a true market town within 5 minutes drive. The owners are only the other side of the large garden and very helpful with any problems that arise. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and look forward to going again before too long.Even the weather was reasonable! The only down side was that we found the suite in the lounge uncomfortable.
