Schoolmaster Pasture is in an excellent location, and is a really lovely cottage. There was all amenities we could want. AGA was really fun to use, and a different cooking experience - plus the kitchen was always nice and warm. We would definitely stay again.
Dr Sherman

A real taste of country living in an active sheep ranching area. A nice mix of of old moor living with just the right amount of modern comforts.
Mrs Connell

This is our 2nd year there as a family (6 of us last year and 7 this year with our new addition!). In a fantastic location. The house feels like our second home, it is comfortable, warm and we love the Aga and coal fire. Walks form the door are great and you can relax and forget all life's worries.

March 2016
Schoolmaster pasture is a wonderful, warm and large farmhouse. Beautifully remote with excellent walking and running from the door. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for an active yet peaceful holiday. The AGA was brilliant, and the information file was one of the most comprehensive I've encountered. Loved the fact that there were local walks and maps enclosed. Excellent for a group gathering, with large bedrooms and a beautiful shared bathroom. Not on the website but there is a separate toilet downstairs.
Mr Jenkins
November 2015
Cannot recommend highly enough. If you are outdoors people and love walking and cycling it is perfect. Personally and as a group we couldn't fault it.
Mrs Burstow

November 2015
There were 10 of us across 3 generations holidaying together so the spaciousness of the property and its comparative isolation were much appreciated. The children could go off and play in one room while something else happened elsewhere. The environment of the property is beautiful and on fine days the sunset and sunrise were glorious.
Mr White
April 2015
The property is spacious and well equipped. The Aga is a fantastic feature for both warmth and cooking facilities and is the heart of the welcoming family kitchen. The whole house is comfortable and the quality of the bedding is excellent. The owners of the property are friendly and accommodating and they made sure that our children had the best holiday - inviting them to see and pet the newborn lambs on their farm! The location of the property is perfect for outdoor lovers, with bridleways and footpaths being immediately accessible. Lots to see and do in the local area also. A great place to relax and unwind, we highly recommend Schoolmaster Pasture!

Excellent remote setting with no distractions from the beautiful location. The owners were incredibly welcoming. It was wonderful that the fire was laid on for our arrival. The bedrooms were roomy with wonderful window seats with views over the moors from all rooms. Excellent kitchen equipment, and lovely dining room with a library. A lovely relaxing, non-fussy home. We would love to visit again!

I'm just writing to thank you for our lovely holiday (ref 37601) at Schoolmaster Pasture. The house, the area, everything - breathtaking! To wake up to that view each day? What a life! Everything was ready for us, the house very clean welcoming, comfortable warm. We learnt to use the Aga with ease ( the owner was on call if needed). We were very lucky with the weather so late in the year, but had everything we needed to hand. We've been hiring cottages for more than 30 years now, I'd definitely recommend this one along with your agency. Thanks!
Mrs Bridge
May 2011
We had a wonderful holiday at Schoolmaster Pasture. This was our second visit and we're positive it won't be our last! If you want remote, peace and tranquillity this is the place for you! We loved the comfortable, welcoming farmhouse and the fact you can enjoy so many wonderful walks straight from the doorstep, you rarely meet another person! The owners are lovely, friendly people, attentive to anything you might need. A big thank you to them and thank you also to Sykes Cottages for the professional service you provide.

Mr Ward

Great walks from the door, plenty of space to roam.
Mr Baghurst
March 2010
This place is remote with a capital 'R'. The views are extensive and quite dramatic and the house is spacious, warm and comfortable. The peace and quiet were wonderful. The more adventurous members of the party had plenty to challenge them whilst, for others the house itself was a pleasure to simply occupy and do almost nothing.
Mrs Maw
August 2010
The cottage was in a lovely remote setting with great views. The owners were great, they made us so welcome. We had three generations on this holiday and it suited all our needs. Many thanks.

The house was everything we wanted/expected. A perfect house in an amazing setting, the views were breathless. Coal fire, aga cooker, 12 course Greek meal cooked, house full of friends, what more could we ask for? The owner very friendly and helpful. This will take some beating to beat the weekend we had there. Wouldn't of changed a thing. Thank you, we will definitely be back in the future.

Schoolmaster Pasture was all that it promised; a comfortable, very well-equipped, spacious home in an outstanding location. There was a good supply of childrens and adults books and videos along with toys and games for younger children. The older children loved the pool table and a nice big bag of lego. There was plenty of coal and logs for the open fire. The surrounding countryside is so beautiful with walks of different lengths starting from the cottage. Children will love the freedom to roam and explore. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly. The cottage easily accommodates two families. We will definitely be visiting again!

Schoolmaster Pasture was a wonderful property and felt like a much loved home rather than a soulless rental property. The owner could not have been more helpful and welcoming. We will be returning.
January 2009
We had a great time, in a very cosy property with amazing views. We enjoyed our New Year very much, a perfect break away. Once again thanks for a great Sykes holiday - we use your company all the time, as we get real value for money.

November 2007
The location of the farmhouse, its interior, very tasteful furnishings and ambience. Loved the open fire and the aga and the views. If you need to get away from it all, then this is the place.
Ms Grimes
December 2007
I loved the location - the views across open moorland were spectacular and the remoteness made it perfect for a get-away-from-it-all birthday celebration with friends. The accommodation was also perfect for the eight of us with enough space to not feel on top of each other. We all loved the kitchen, always warm and welcoming - and in November/December that was particularly valuable!! Of course the Aga made the kitchen even more of a delight but the open fire in the living room was also a favourite.
April 2007
The cottage was absolutely lovely. The peace and tranquillity was wonderful especially at night. We all enjoyed sitting round the open fire in the evening. The Aga in the kitchen was a warm welcome when we arrived.
Mrs White
October 2006
The isolation was wonderful. There was plenty of room within the cottage for everyone to have their own space. The kitchen was the hub of the cottage.
Mr Mrs Tye
January 2007
The accommodation was first class. The AGA is unique, and cooked breakfasts are a breeze to make and a pleasure to eat - the bacon seems so much crispier than at home! The views around the cottage are out of this world, and the silence at night time is unnerving at first, until you get used to it. Fantastic. It's the second time we've been, and certainly not the last.
Mrs Futers
November 2006
Definitely a place to get away from it all! Lots of space. The kitchen was very homely.
Mr Lenihan
October 2006
Fantastic - a wonderful suprise.
Mrs Futers
August 2006
The fact that there was no mobile phone signal was a big bonus! The isolation was superb and looking out of the house at night into total darkness with only a few specks of light from neighbouring farms was a wonderful experience. The house was superb with plenty of room for six children to disappear into the many separate rooms and cooking on the Aga was a lesson in patience to say the least! I will carry the memories of this holiday with me for a long time - it was very special.
Miss Nolan
October 2005
Thank you for a really lovely holiday. You made us feel very welcome.
Mrs Kaylor

It is in a very secluded location which is safe for children to play outside. The farmhouse is very welcoming, particularly the Aga in the kitchen, which draws the family towards spending time together in there. An ideal location for walking. Very friendly family, very welcoming and helpful. Nice to see a working farm.

The house was very spacious but homely at the same time. The decor, linen etc was fresh. The owners were helpful in getting us up the track to the house in their Landrover because of the snow on Friday!, and were available if we needed them throughout the weekend. Please pass on our thanks to the owners.

This was a wonderful place to get out of it and relax, the beck at the bottom of the hill lovely for the children, who paddled and explored everyday. We had two families and there was enough room for the children and adults to get away from each other. We all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and have already recommended it to friends.
Mr Flynn
December 2004
Great remote farmhouse with fantastic views, situated right on some of the Dales greatest mountain bike routes. Very helpful and friendly owners. Kids loved all the animals and huge amount of toys
Mr Kerry
December 2004
The cottage is in a beautiful remote spot and was very comfortably furnished and warm, clean and welcoming. This is the best property we have stayed in in Yorkshire in the 10 years that we have been coming. The Sykes staff were very helpful and it was a very smooth booking process - we would certainly book through you again.
February 2016
If you want a complete get away with friends or family this is the property. Excellent directions provided by the owners. Lovely and clean, well equipped large cottage. Only reason this property didn't get a five from us is that the oven struggled to cater for ten people (too small and didn't retain its heat), the lounge didn't comfortably seat all of us at once and shower was on the snug size! Please don't let this put you off, we managed very well, just ate late and spread out round the house. Large dining table provided for games/card nights and even the little sloping pool table with dodgy cues provided the teens with some entertainment. Great walks from the property, if not a little remote! We walked into Reeth over the moor directly from the property via Hurst (about 4.5 miles, took an hour and half). Visits out to Hawes, Hardraw, Aysgarth, Richmond, Tan Hill all within good distance. Would definitely book again, just maybe plan to eat out more or take a slow cooker with us.
January 2017
We stayed at Schoolmaster Pasture for 3 nights in December 2016. The house was spacious and ideal for our group. All the bedrooms where large, while the house was well equipped with everything we needed. The aga cooker was easy to use and kept the down stairs rooms very warm. The location was very remote but only 20 minutes from Richmond and Aysgarth Falls - both are worth a visit. Thank you to Richard for making us feel very welcome. Kind regards Alex
January 2017
We stayed here over the Christmas period in 2015. There was 10 of us including small children and we had the most magical Christmas. We were disappointed that it was booked up this Christmas but we are delighted to have booked it again next Christmas! We loved how remote this property is and its beautiful picturesque settings. The cottages is well equipped and although the Arga did take a little getting used to - especially cooking for 10 but Richard did explain how to use it and the arga cook books did come in handy! The arga made the cottage feel warm and cosy and made the kitchen an favourite gathering place! I really cannot find fault as we had a wonderful time and are already on count down to our return this year!
October 2011
This was our first attempt at renting a house for the whole family and it was lovely. Even though the weather was a bit damp, the farmhouse was cosy, the aga made heavenly food and the views were amazing. Our hosts were really helpful and we had a really relaxing holiday. Thank-you!
December 2011
Great location. Literally middle of nowhere so for walks, biking etc it's 1st class - lke nothing you can convey in text!! Shops long way off but if you don't mind that then you are fine Feels like you are on a working farm so no massive modern comforts which is fine as long as you know beforehand. Just a good solid property with lots of space in and out, log fire, Arga etc
May 2014
Once we eventually managed to find schoolmaster pasture, in the middle of nowhere, a group of 10 of us had a great weekend. Local road closures didn't help with trying to get there! The property is a farmhouse accessed down a long farm track from a gate, making you feel very self contained and reclusive. The nice aga in the kitchen did indeed bring everyone together in that room, the living room with fire next door was also lovely on an evening. Bedrooms are all comfortable and adequate, albeit low ceilinged. Enjoyed a long walk to the village of Reeth from Schoolmaster Pasture. Would stay again in a group of good friends, and would recommend to others.
January 2015
There were eight of us staying for the new year period, all friends and yes we returned as friends. We had a fantastic time at schoolmasters pasture we settled in just fine. It is very remote but we loved it. We took everything we needed plus more. We went for long walks each day and came home to lovely food. The only problem we had was the aga, when you are not used to it this became an issue and wished we had got another small cooker as a back up as cooking a meal for eight in such a small aga oven was a problem. Other than that the whole week was fantastic and we would return again. The setting of the cottage was brilliant you looked onto open pasture which was so lovely to wake up to. Many thanks for allowing us stay we wish you well for the future. Gareth and maggie Roberts plus friends. X

November 2015
We wanted a place that was big enough to accommodate a group of family and friends, and Schoolmaster Pasture was the perfect place to get together, share meals around the dining table, gather in the kitchen to prepare meals and/or chat. We had a few sunny days, although the weather was mostly cool and overcast while we were there: the heat from the aga and the central heating was enough to keep us cosy so we didn't have to light either of the fires. None of us had used an aga before, but it was just about big enough to make hearty meals for 6 to 8 people. It was handy to have the toaster and microwave. The kitchen is well-equipped, except that there seemed to be a shortage of lids for the several casserole dishes in the cupboard! (We managed with lids from the saucepans). The house is a wonderful building - large, roomy and solid and with an interesting layout. The beds were the best we've slept in! All of our guests remarked on how exceptionally comfortable they were. The directions received from the owners were spot on, and we found the house without any problems (some of our visitors used satnav and had no difficulty finding their way). It is very much off the beaten track, which is one of its attractions for us. The surrounding countryside is delightfully scenic, calm and remote. We enjoyed the company of sheep, cattle and red grouse. The owners were perfect - helpful without being invasive. We had a wonderful stay and we intend to return!
February 2011
Bringing together my partners' and my children to celebrate an early Christmas for the first time was somewhat of a gamble. Being in the beautiful setting of the snowbound Schoolmaster Pasture cottage with it's spacious yet cosy interior gave a perfect environment for everyone to enjoy each others company and also have their own space. Everyone loved the arga as a central gathering point in the kitchen and the pool table was the finishing touch to ensure the 5 teenage boys had common ground to get to know each other and have fun away from the adults. The owners were attentive to our every need without being invasive and we felt very much at home. The children are asking if we can do it again next year.
January 2011
its a great place to stay in the middle of no where just sheep for compny it was fantasic the kids loved it seeing sheep and wild birds great walks but still being able to go in to a town for shops with in 30min drive willl hope to go back year after year. the owners are very nice and welcoming there when ever you need them. every thing is there ready for you toys for kids well equiped kitchen, board games and books for older kids a1 star if needed a rating couldnt be happyier with the place
November 2010
We had a great week. the age range in our group was 10-80yrs. We all loved the house and the setting. It was great for the children and the older members enjoyed the garden and views. The owners were lovely and made us all feel very much at home. thank you so much for a great week.
February 2010
This is the second time we have visited School Master Pasture and we had another great weekend. The house is warm and welcoming especially on wild and windy weekends! The location is fantastic for getting away from it all and provides some great walks right on the doorstep. The area is breathtaking, I could not recomend this property highly enough.
