St. Mary's Mission Room description

Holiday home
Originally built as a chapel, this Grade II listed building has been lovingly restored to combine character features such as exposed timbers, pitched ceilings and limestone floors with modern facilities. A wood-burning stove transforms this light and airy property into a cosy snug in winter, whilst the rear garden offers ample opportunity for a spot of outdoor dining in the summer evenings. Three bedrooms offer sleeping accommodation for groups of up to six people and there is road-side parking for up to two cars.

Ebberston is a picturesque village that sits on the edge of the Forge Valley which hasbeen recognised as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village itself is small, comprising little more than a scattering of stone-built cottages and two pubs that serve good food and real ales to the locals and visitors alike. Adding to the chocolate-box effect, a stream runs through Ebberston and flows into the River Derwent. There are plenty of activities in the village, such as horse-riding, a children's play area and a nine-hole golf course. If you like a little more thrill to your relaxation, Ebberston also has a quad-biking facility. In an area of such spectacular scenery there are, of course, a number of walks and cycle-paths to explore. Slightly further afield, you will find attractions such as Dalby Forest, Pickering and Scampston Walled Garden. Railway-enthusiasts will enjoy the famous North Yorkshire Steam Railway and families will enjoy the amenities offered by the seaside towns of Scarborough and Filey.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Gas central heating with underfloor heating on ground floor and woodburner in sitting area. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, WiFi, DVD, radio/CD . Fuel, power & initial wood for woodburner inc. in rent. Bed linen inc. in rent. Highchair on request. Roadside parking for 2 cars. Lawned garden with garden furniture and BBQ. One well-behaved dog welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop 2 miles, pub 5 mins walk.

October 2014
Of all the cottages we have stayed in over the years this is definitely one of the best. A superb conversion has made a very impressive and comfortable living space with excellent fixtures and fittings, set in a lovely village with great access to the forest, moors and coast. The owner was very helpful, calling us after we had arrived to check we were OK and we really appreciated the welcome gifts of fresh bread, flowers and a cake. We rarely go back to the same place twice but I think we will certainly be coming back to both this area and this terrific cottage.
Mrs Whitehouse

This was an excellent property in an idyllic village. It is an ideal location for exploring all that North Yorkshire has to offer. From the serene location of the cottage, to the wonderful architecture of York and the seaside towns of Scarborough and Bridlington, along with the harbour town of Whitby, it offers something for all the family.

Good location- great kids play park very near. Bathrooms and kitchen were stunning. Ebberston close to Scarborough and Thornton-le-Dale.
January 2013
St Mary's mission was a beautiful building to stay in and the wood burning stove soom heated up the house. If you enjoy cooking the kitchen is very well laid out and creates a sociable atmosphere in which to prepare a meal for your family. I would recommend this cottage for a great get away.
August 2013
From arrival we were greated with a homemade cake and fresh flowers! Property was perfect in every way. Really struggle to find a downside, if anything it would be no off street parking.

September 2013
A lovely property full of character. The village is so pretty with local artisan bakery Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Great food and very friendly in local pub. Cottage has everything you need as a family. A real home from home
June 2016
We stayed here for a week with my parents and our young son. It was fantastic. Lovely building with lots of character that has been fantastically renovated. The garden was a great space to run about and the village is very picturesque and well located close to both Pickering and Scarborough. The owners had left flowers and a cake which was very welcoming and there was lots of useful information about the area provided. Unfortunately the weather for our visit wasn't great but we found lots to do in the area and the house was a really comfortable base for our trips out. The previous comment about parking being difficult is understandable - it is on street parking - but we had no difficulties in 7 days and this was during half term holidays when I imagine it is probably busier. One slight negative (and it is a minor quibble) is that it is a very noisy house. Upstairs is very creaky and noise spreads all through the house - we didn't have any problems but maybe a young child who is a light sleeper would struggle to get to sleep. All in all, a fantastic holiday in really excellent accommodation.
Mrs Washbrook
June 2008
We loved the cottage. It was everything and more than we expected. The area is excellent for walking and also not too far from the beaches.
Mrs Anderton
July 2009

June 2008
What a fantastic property! An excellent retreat but well positioned for exploring the East Coast and Yorkshire Moors. The availability of wireless broadband is a great facility and an ipod docking station was a real bonus.
Mrs Sharp
June 2008
The cottage was in a fantastic spot and had obviously been renovated to an extremely high standard. There was so much to do in the area that we were kept busy all week. We will definitely recommend Sykes, and this particular cottage, to our friends and family.

April 2010
what a beautiful building. A lot of TLC has gone into this restoration ensuring that it keeps all of its character and charm amongst modern fittings. the village of Ebberston is lovely and tranquil and it is ideal for all of the East Coast resorts as well as the moors and surrounding villages. The Kitchen and bathrooms are really high spec and have to be seen to be fully appreciated. All in all a great place to stay and we will definately be having a return visit. ps Laura (aged 5) thought that the bunkbeds were fantastic!!
October 2012
We stayed here as a family of 5 at the end of August. A fantastic conversion from the original chapel has been undertaken extremely well and the finish of the accommodation is exceptional. The accommodation is very well laid out, with a fantastic kitchen/diner/lounge on the ground floor, with the kitchen being extremely well-equipped. The upstairs has three good-sized bedrooms and both the en-suite to the master bedroom and the family bathroom have been finished to a very high standard. The inclusion of freeview TV and a free broadband service were great extras that were valued by our children in particular. The location of the accommodation is perfect for anybody wishing to visit the North Yorkshire Moors, any of the great coastal resorts and the city of York. I'd recommend the property to anybody - families, friends or groups wanting somewhere comfortable and well-equipped to base themselves to explore the wide range of attractions that North Yorkshire has to offer.
December 2009
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ebberston. A surprisingly spacious property, full of character with good quality fittings and well equipped kithen. We reported a couple of minor niggles that needed attention at end of our stay but nothing that spoiled our holiday and am convinced they would have been dealt with. The owners clearly love and take good care of the property. We wanted somewhere the children could study for exams yet within easy reach of places to visit when they wanted a break. It was perfect! It was in a quiet village location yet within easy reach of shops for groceries and places to visit such as Scarborough and Flamingo Land. Due to the location a car is essential and although parking was on the road it was never a problem, even with two cars. We loved sitting in the deep window sills to read and the internet was a huge bonus. It took a while to sort out as the instructions weren't very clear but the owner was very helpful in getting us online. Overall..... Brilliant! Would definitely recommend it and consider visiting again.
December 2009
We were 6 adults staying for the Pickering War weekend and really enjoyed our stay at this very sympathetically converted Sunday School. The only reason it hasn't got 5 stars is the 3rd bedroom which is incredibly small. It does sleep 2 adults in bunk beds and has a wardrobe, but no room for anything else, and certainly not enough room for 2 people to get dressed at the same time! We liked everything else about the property; it had plenty of room in the kitchen and living area for 6 adults. It has obviously only recently been converted and equiped, so everything is new and modern. We especially liked the wood burning stove! Ebberston is a pleasant, quiet village, only about 15 minutes drive from Pickering, and close to lots of other places of interest in the area. We would certainly use this property again
December 2009
This was a lovely cottage which had been restored to a really high standard. The village location and local park were great for our young children and it was within easy reach of the coast
December 2009
The accomodation is cleverly designed and well appointed. Only down sides were general cleanliness on arrival and that in parts some finishing was still required. Otherwise a great location for touring the surrounding countryside, and for the local pub (there is only one)up on the main road (The Grape)where we were made to feel like locals as we took full advantage of the excellent food and ales! Will probably return in the future.
