Stockdale House description

Holiday home
Stockdale House is a semi-detached farmhouse in Feizor village in the Dales, brimming with character and traditional features including window seats, beams and stone fireplaces. There is a king-size double room, a twin and a single, a family bathroom and additional ground floor cloakroom, a farmhouse kitchen with large dining area and woodburner, and a sitting room with a second woodburner. Outside, there is off road parking for 3 cars, mature gardens, a lockable stone built storage area for bikes and walks from the doorstep. Feizor is an attractive peaceful village, well placed for enjoying the Dales, making Stockdale House a wonderful base for a year-round break.

Arguably one of the finest areas for walking in the region, the village of Austwick provides an excellent base for ramblers looking to explore the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Full of limestone pavements and scars, caves and open moors, this diverse and varied scenery offers a wealth of wonderful cycle tracks and walks through areas full of natural interest. In addition to boasting an excellent local pub serveing home cooked meals as well as a country hotel for an extra special night out, Austwick also has a shop and post office to meet visitors daily needs. As one of the less well-known villages in the area, this wonderful little settlement offers a quiet location off the beaten track and away from the crowds. With the towns of Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Skipton and Kendal all close by, Austwick provides peace and quiet without leaving you feeling marooned.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Liked the overall ambience of the property, it is full of character and gently aged charm. The area is beautiful with excellent walks from the doorstep. The home cooked food available next door is a real bonus.

It felt like being at home the moment we walked in. We could have many varied walks from the front door. The hamlet was tranquil but also had life with friendly neighbours.

The Stockdale house is an excellent starting point for beautiful walks in all directions. There are many interesting places to visit, and it is near the Settle and Carlisle railway, which was a bonus for us. The house itself is wonderful, and the caretaker made us a very warm welcome.

In a lovely location, and a lovely house too.

Lovely to get the opportunity to stay in such an old property with so many character features; slate floors, window seats, shutters, uneven floors, real fires etc. Spacious dinning area, lounge and bedrooms. Brilliants views and location. Piano was an unusual bonus and a traditional local farm on the doorstep which the children loved visiting.

A fabulous period cottage with bags of character. It was comfortable cosy and in a very quiet peaceful location, providing a variety of excellent walks from the door.

Stockdale House is set in a delightfully quiet Yorkshire Dales hamlet of Feizor. The walks from the house were stunning! The house is amazing - like a small Tudor manor house but with all mod cons including excellent central heating and woodburning stoves which offered a welcome retreat from the sporadic weather!

A wonderful cottage in a great location - so quiet. Superb cafe 100 yards away for the best breakfasts ever! Very well situated to visit not only the Dales but the beautiful Forest of Bowland and Lakeland. Great to stay in a property with real character, two open fireplaces and wiggly floors. For music lovers the piano is a really welcome addition and the recliner chair is to die for. Beds are very comfortable and there are window seats all over the house which lend themselves so well to reading a book or just staring out looking at the superb scenery.

Unbeatable, tranquil, picturesque location. Good value. Great for families apart from the small kitchen area which was only a minor issue.

We stopped here in mid January and the cottage had been empty the week before. The weather had been very wet in the area during the preceding weeks and turned snowy the weekend we arrived. It was disappointing to find that the heating had not been on and it was a couple of hours before it was warm enough to take our costs off. This is a beautiful old cottage in a gorgeous rural setting and it was a shame to have such a cold and damp welcome. The gable end wall in the twin room was brown with damp and the grout in the bathroom was black with mould. Whilst we were able to clean up the grout the damp was more concerning. The shower was very poor, but there was plenty of hot water for baths. As the cottage warmed up the whole ambience of the place changed to a cosy cottage. The walking around this area is stunning and we were lucky enough to get some good walks in glorious winter sunshine and a great meal at The Traddock in Austwick and loved Elaine's cafe in Feizor. I have let the cottage management company know about the problems we encountered so hopefully these should be resolved for future guests.

It is in close proximity to good walking routes. The accommodation met our needs and was well equipped, spacious, old and quirky accommodation. The location is quiet.
December 2012
From a friendly next door lady to the friendy staff at Elaine's cafe, This is the place to come for a well deserved 'rest'. As it was the third week of continous rain, our walks, especially up Ingleton Waterfalls were made even more spectacular, fantastic, also Gorsdale Scar. Nevr watched the TV all week, just enjoyed playing games in a wonderfully warm kitchen. The Childs Edition of Trivial Pursuit was So difficult, but great fun. My one and only complaint might be the uneveness of the upstairs passage way. Quite difficult to walk along, especially when one has had a 'little' drink...or two. Settle Down Cafe was very charming, great staff. In all great week, might go back sometime. Thanks to all concerned in helping to make it a special event.
