Holiday home
This cosy detached house is set within 160 acres of working arable and livestock farmland on the outskirts of Stoke Ash, a small village just four miles from the town of Eye. Boasting a large kitchen with dining table and a spacious sitting room with doors to the well-maintained lawned garden, this property is a wonderful place for a relaxing break. The nearby town of Eye provides a variety of shops, pubs and eateries, whilst nearby Stowmarket and Diss offer yet more choice. The surrounding country is full of interesting activities, all within easy driving distance of this charming little cottage.

With a number of shops, pubs and restaurants, the small town of Eye is a well-served town located in the heart of East Anglia. With monthly cinema nights held at the community centre, this charming location is just five miles away from the market town of Diss in the beautiful Waveney Valley. With examples of Georgian and Edwardian buildings as well as an award winning museum and the public park, Eye is a thriving community offering plenty to do. There is a market every Friday and coincides with a local antiques and collectables auction. The town of Stowmarket is close by and provides an 18-hole golf course along with Suffolk's only open-air museum and a variety of shops and pubs. The Suffolk Coast, Thetford Forest with its Go Ape high wire experience and the Steam Museum at Bressingham are all within easy driving distance.

Picturesque rolling Fens, unspoilt beaches, and pretty waterways – East Anglia is a dream holiday destination. Norfolk offers beaches, saltmarshes and quaint villages whilst equally as charming are the coast and countryside of Suffolk.

The cottage is lovely and the rooms spacious. The view from the back windows is a delight - a fine variety of trees, so many different birds, and other wildlife. Good local pubs. The nearby town of Eye is gracious, and has all that is necessary, and a good deli. There are so many places to visit - Diss, Stowmarket, Southwold, Bury St Edmunds, among them. Packenham Water Mill is a must visit.

The Bothy is a spacious house, beautifully situated for local walks (public footpaths cross the farmland it is built on). Very close to Eye and Diss and many attractive villages. The owner was welcoming and helpful, but left us to get on with our break.
Mr Preedy
November 2013
We had a lovely week in The Bothy, this spacious cottage was well off the road up a lane to the farm it is situated on. For the quietest of holidays we could not have chosen better. Our hosts were very welcoming, and Suffolk has so much of interest to do and see even in late November. We went to fly Hawks at The Owl Sanctuary, what a brilliant day, only to find that there were Little Owls lining in and around the farm, brilliant. The cottage is spacious, beautifully clean and had everything we needed.
Mrs Clark
November 2012

Mrs Copsey.
July 2012
We liked the fact that The Bothy was in a secluded place without neighbours, apart from the owners, who were very nice, who were there for any help if any was necessary. Also that we were able to take our dog. There was interesting wildlife outside on the doorstep.
Mrs Bearder
July 2012
In a rural position with walks from the door yet still close to shops and pubs. We loved the birds, especially the woodpeckers feeding their young. A small enclosed garden good for the dog.
Mr Twells

Appreciated the Monday to Monday stay consent given by the owner. Excellent cottage with a safe garden for the dog and it allowed us close access to our family who live in the area. Also, it was just amazing watching wildlife in wooded area.
Mrs Williamson
December 2011
The owners, who live next door, were very friendly and helpful. The garden and surrounding farmland have lots of wildlife to watch. The Bothy's back garden is securely fenced so my dog was safe. Though few in number, all the rooms are a good size. The heating is very effective and having wi-fi is a boon.
Mrs Gill
May 2012

The location was great. Central, quiet and undisturbed. The house was very spacious and had wifi which helped us to look at attractions on a day to day basis. The garden and the outlook at the back was exceptional. We viewed squirrels, hares, rabbits, hedgehogs, owls, many varieties of bird and the resident geese.
Mr Taylor
September 2011
The location is great, its nice and quiet but close enough to A140 for going on days out. Fantastic for couples with dogs who like to walk. The local pubs serve good food, one of which is 'The White Horse'.
Mr DeCosta
July 2011

November 2011
The peaceful location of the property. Plenty of good places to eat and lots to see within a reasonable distance.

The peace and the ultra rural surroundings. My comment in their visitor was book was 'a little piece of Utopia complemented by the morning duet from the geese'.
Mr Wood

A lovely cottage in tranquil surroundings with an abundance of wild life. Ideally situated for visiting many local attractions.
Mrs Sykes
October 2010
This is the second time we have stayed in the Bothy so knew where it was and what the standard of the fixtures and fittings was. We love the space in the property and it is a lovely warm and cosy place to stay and we have enjoyed our peaceful break in Suffolk immensely.

It was absolutely picture perfect. We had the best time, some friends came to visit and they thought it was just great also. We had our bikes with us and it was a perfect location for cycling. It couldn't have been better, even the weather was in our favour. I would definitely use this property again. The owner was professional and available for enquiries. We loved it.
Mr Laing

September 2010
We had our best holiday in years at The Bothy, including foreign holidays. We enjoyed the property, the surrounding Suffolk villages, and the coast. The garden was especially delightful in the early morning. At night the starry sky was wonderful, as there is no light pollution.

The cottage is secluded but still within easy reach of the main road. The wildlife in the garden was a pleasure to watch. I don't think anybody could find fault with this cottage. I mark this cottage 100%.
Mr Philpott
July 2010
Very lovely place to chill out and relax and listen to the birds. Lovely area for walks and not too far from the sea. Best resort was Southwold. Thorham walks 10 minutes away not to be missed.
Mrs Luker
April 2010
The 'Bothy' really earned the 3 'C's - Clean, Cosy and Comfortable! It was nicely situated although a bit off the beaten track but places were easy to get too. Owners were helpful but not in any way interfering. It was very spacious and a good place to stay.
Mr Holroyd

We thought the cottage was excellent value for money and really enjoyed our stay. It was much more spacious then we imagined it would be. The owner was also very nice. Definitely one of the better cottages we have stayed in!
Mr Mrs King
September 2009
The Bothy is welcoming, comfortable and very relaxing. We liked the enclosed garden for our dogs, the peaceful surroundings for ourselves, and the location was perfect for seeing the area. The cottage is well equipped and clean; the owners friendly but unobtrusive. We came home refreshed and relaxed.
July 2016
Plus points Plenty of room Good location - central for all the places we wanted to visit Spotted the green woodpecker a few times, plus what seems to be the resident hare. Minus points Pigs in nearby building - these are not the free range pigs you see around the area - they are in a shed with no access to outside - I m not a pig expert, but the noises coming from the shed did not seem those of contented pigs - seemed to be stress/fighting noises. We found this a bit upsetting - plus the noise, whilst less during the night than day time, meant we could not have bedroom windows open during a hot and humid spell. Also a bit smelly. We know this is a farm, but it would be better if the pigs could be re-located away from the holiday cottages, or even better, given access to outside, Some areas need cleaning, outside tatty. Lots of flies - take a fly swat, or rely on the sticky fly paper in the kitchen with a hundred dead bodies on it. Not deliberately being negative, but this is a truthful account of our experience.
Mr Denney
October 2008
Enclosed private garden suitable for pets.
Mr Pook
December 2008
Lovely welcoming touches.
Mrs Dolby
January 2009
The location of The Bothy was perfect - very peaceful and the birds, rabbits and squirrels provided us with lots of entertainment. We particularly liked the opportunity to walk our dog (and let her have a good chase about)in the fields on the farm without worrying about traffic.
August 2013
Well presented, large & very clean cottage. The owners were friendly but left us to get on with our holiday. There were quite a few eating places within a short drive & the food was of a high standard.we did quite a lot of touring & the cottage was central to where we wanted to visit. Highlight of the hol was woodpeckers feeding on the bird feeder.
August 2013
Spacious rooms in a lovely cottage - the view from the back windows is full of beauty and wild-life. Inside, the cottage has enough of everything. we enjoyed the geese in the yard. There are so many places to visit and enjoy - Eye is elegant. Stowmarket's Museum of East anglian life is well done. Diss - go on market day, Friday, : there's a good street market: and the auction market, just five minutes walk away from the centre, is quite wonderful. Bury St Edmunds and Southwold good day excursions, and very different from each other. The best discovery were the windmill and watermill at Packenham. The wonderful weather helped. But we would have enjoyed it enormously whatever the weather. We like to be off the beaten track, and we know when we are near our destination when there's grass in the middle of the road. Lovely walks too but we were not able to walk any distances because of our knees. An Ordnance Survey Map will enhance your enjoyment.
March 2014
Spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. Dog friendly with its own garden (fully fenced so safe for dog to play in). Owners very friendly and helpful. Many excellent eating establishments within a short drive but because of the excellent cooking facilities at the cottage we did most of our own catering.
August 2014
ideal venue for a touring base, cottage just right for two.Out of the way and very peaceful.owners left us to our own devices.
Andrew N
April 2016
First the blackbirds start in the morning, then the pheasants, then the pigeons, then the pigs. What lovely country sounds! And we could hear them all without getting out of the warm, firm bed. But it we hadn't done that we would have missed the glorious ghostly blackthorn blossom and the cowslips, primroses and stitchwort on the banks. All mod cons too. We particularly made use of the washing machine and WiFi.
May 2013
The Bothy is a little gem. Cheaper than many smaller, less well appointed or advantageously located properties. The welcome was warm, the hosts next door unobtrusive, and the various pets and farm yard neighbours a delight in this rural setting.Likes of Southwold, Ely and Bury St Edmunds all within an hour drive. Eye village is also well worth a visit.
May 2013
Friendly warm welcome .Really liked the bothy so comfy and cosy .Loved the vase of fresh Daffodils on kitchen table . Will definitley go again when we do the area again.
April 2013
We thought the Bothy was absolutely ideal for our type of holiday. There are plenty of walks and cycle rides and after a day of this it was lovely to come back to this lovely, well-equipped cottage. When everything is provided like this it is so easy to relax at the end of the day
September 2012
The Bothy was lovely - the only thing that may have slightly marred our break was the weather. There had been a lot of rain prior to us visiting and most of the local footpaths were rather boggy. The village shop doesn't sell much and the nearest pub is the other side of a busy main road. But there is a nice shop next to a pub in the next village which is easily walkable (didn't try the pub but it looked nice). The cottage has everything you could need. One perhaps slight disadvantage, is the fact that the back garden is accessed through the lounge and not the kitchen, so you need to make sure your dog doesn't trek mud in!! Overall, a very nice cottage, in the countryside - ideal for a relaxing walking break.
May 2012
Have now stayed here twice and may well return. As a base for visiting friends in Norfolk and Suffolk, and also for house-hunting in the area, it's ideal. It's plain and unpretentious, but has everything one needs for a very comfortable stay.
December 2011
brilliant service, secluded garden for our dogs to play safely everything you needed well equipped in the kitchen. warm and comfortable plenty of walks and good pub food. the freedom it gave us with our dog shamus and our puppies harold and bailey.loved every minute we were there
January 2012
We had a late break looking to have a relaxing time to relieve some stress. Worked a treat. Owners were great and left us alone to do what we wanted. Found plenty of intereting places to visit. Within an hour of the coast. Several nice places to eat when you did not want to cook.
November 2010
An excellent accommodation with great facilities for dog owners
November 2010
We enjoyed everything about this holiday, the accommodation was excellent and the surrounding areas beautiful. The house was very spacious and comfortable with lovely gardens. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly.
August 2011
Excellent views from the rear of the house over wooded gardens with a good deal of local wildlife to see. Good location for travelling the whole area as on main trunk road
Roger and Brenda
August 2011
A very comfortable holiday stay in a beautiful location. Suffolk has so much to offer from 'chocolate box villages' to the fun of the seaside. Our dogs loved the Bothy as much as us. We will certainly be going back.
John D
September 2011
The Bothy is a big as a house, with everything we needed for an thoroughly enjoyable stay. The owners were terrific. The location for sightseeing in the region is superb.
December 2011
Location was excellent. Everything that we needed was provided.
December 2009
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Bothy, it is spacious but cosy. It is in a lovely spot right in the countryside away from the busy roads and traffic but convenient for touring. We were made very welcome by the owners.
Sue Sykes
December 2009
The cottage is in a wonderful location, spotless, warm and spacious and with everything you could need for a relaxing holiday. Eye itself is a lovely town and the shopkeepers are so friendly we actually bought quite a few Christmas presents whilst we were there in October. The location of the cottage means it is easy to travel around Suffolk using quiet lanes and there were wonderful walks for our dogs. We visited many National Trust properties in the area, and love the nearby town of Framlingham. Our only minor comment about the property was the poor shower facilities, but this was far outweighed by the standard and quality of the accommodation.
December 2009
We spent a warm and cosy 2008 New Year break at this cottage. Owners next door very friendly and pointed out nice walks from the cottage for us and the Sam our dog.
September 2010
Very nice country place on working farm. Owners very friendly and helpful. Excellent place to stay for bird watching, walking and scenery. Not a good place for night life but for us it was perfect. Best coastal resort was Southwold. All the Suffolk towns like Bury St Edmunds are very interesting places. We had a really lovely week. Throw some spare bread crumbs into the farm pond. You will be amazed at the number of fish.
December 2009
This is a very well maintained and equipped cottage with a very friendly owner. It is situated in a farmyard down a long farm track, which is very good if you want to get away from the crowds, but is next door to the owner's home. We left a day before our booked departure date - purely because heavy snow was forecast for the next day and we didn't fancy being snowed in on our way home - you cannot blame the owner for the weather ! The location is such that you can travel to many different towns and coastal resorts, all within an hour's journey.
December 2009
Clean, warm, well-equipped, deceptively spacious cottage with friendly owners next door. Situated on a working farm with fabulous open aspect to the rear. Dog friendly, with enclosed rear garden area; good outdoor space for sitting and eating, or just relaxing. Wildlife spotting a bonus. Well situated for touring Suffolk. Beautiful small towns and villages around with good road networking. Bonus late holiday, loads of fruit ripe for picking in the garden.
