We found it a very homely, comfortable location. Lovely decorated accommodation. The owners were very hospitable and helpful. The views were fantastic when the weather permitted, and location easily accessible to local shops. Very well situated for visiting local sites of interest. Will recommend to family and friends. After a recent illness, it was just what the doctor ordered; a fantastic location to rest and recuperate.

The Cowshed was a magical place to spend New Near. It was beautifully renovated with lots of amazing features and was well-equipped, down to every last detail. We had a wonderful time in a fabulous property. We would love to go back for another visit.

We loved this cottage - it was very comfortable, and the reclaimed timber used in the kitchen and elsewhere gave it a lovely quirky feel. It was a lovely holiday and this cottage was a great place to stay.

Such a special cottage, beautifully converted and comfortable yet still recognisable as a cowshed due to remaining quirky features. Also the location and owners lovely.

My partner and our two little dogs stayed at the Cowshed for a week in February. We arrived late at night to find a beautiful and quirky little cottage, log stove (with enough fuel to warm us up that evening), a hospitality tray and even slippers and dressing gowns! We felt so welcome! Our dogs loved the area, with a large field to run around in and some very friendly chickens and horses. You feel like it's very remote and peaceful but actually you're so close to Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and a local supermarket, a perfect combination. Luxurious and rustic - we will definitely be staying again :)

We stayed here for new year and had a fabulous time. The cottage is beautifully renovated with lots of extra touches and attention to detail. It's really well equipped with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. We had a magical new year there. Big thank you to the owners for the bottle of fizz left in the fridge for the new year celebration x. Would definitely recommend

A great place with very accommodating owners.

We stayed for 3 nights in November, it was superb! So homely with every last thing thought about. Couldn't fault the cottage in any way, we loved coming back after a days walking on the coast to a log fire and beautiful surroundings. Some fantastic beaches locally and really great pub restaurants. The cottage has been done with great style and taste. The owners are great, Mark and Helen have done such a great job! We'll be back with our dogs (who also loved the cottage).

September 2015
We had a marvellous Christmas holiday at the Cowshed!! The stunning decor was eclipsed by the personal touches added for festivity. A great location to explore the North York Moors.
September 2015
We enjoyed our stay at the Cowshed, especially seeing the clever recycling of so many everyday things. (eg. carpet cleaner to a standard lamp!). It was warm with an efficient heating system, so we didn't need to use the log burner (which was a shame!!) The shower was fantastic with a choice of shower heads, and although I searched for it, (not many hiding spaces) I couldn't find a hair-dryer. Definitely a young persons place, as the stairs were a challenge (but fun) and the soft mattress topper played havoc with our geriatric backs. It would have been nice to have had the grass in front of the window screened, as when sitting at the table we were watched by the folk in the other rental, just a small thing, but worth a mention, and I'm sure Mark will put this right over time. I imagine it would be a perfect holiday with kids, as they would love the stairs, and the facility of a fire pit in the garden next to the BBQ which has views all the way to Whitby Abbey

Super little cottage just outside Whitby. Not big but well equipped and very comfortable. Lovely field next to the cottage for the dog to run around in. Although next to the main road (A171) traffic noise was not an problem at all. We had a lovely, relaxing week.
April 2016
My sister and I have just returned from 3 night stay in this wonderful cottage. Although small, it was packed with everything we could possibly need, including a washing machine and dishwasher. It was cosy and warm, with comfortable beds and sofa .... just what we needed after a days walking with the dogs. The beds had crisp, brilliant white bedding and everything was very clean. Helen and Mark, the owners, were lovely and couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating, going out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We could definitely recommend a stay here and we hope to pay another visit before too long.

We chose to stay at the Cowshed for our honeymoon, due to its location and we were not at all disappointed. Wonderful views over Whitby, close to Robin Hoods Bay and a great position to travel along the coast up through North Yorkshire. The cottage is truly amazing and very homely, with everything you need for a well earned chill out. It is quaint and quirky and restored to a great standard using original features and there are lots of items that have been recycled to make unique objects that are usable, such as lamps, light shades and coat hooks. The more you look around the more you are taken aback by the use of items that have been reclaimed from the original cowshed , even the bath and sink. Lovely fresh linen and towels were provided and we were even given a towel for the dogs. Gas radiators are installed so the place is more than warm enough, but we did use the log burner which made the room so snug. Thank you Helen and Mark for making our special holiday a whole lot more special and also for our celebratory bottle of wine. Well done on all your hard work in making The Cowshed such a magical place to stay.

I spent a wonderful week in March in this beautiful converted cowshed with my partner and our puppy and kitten. We found it absolutely perfect for us - warm, comfortable and dog-friendly, ground level mostly with off street parking The owners, Mark and Helen, were close by and always accessible and helpful. They were also very understanding when our puppy had a bit of a chew of their furniture. We have rented cottages and flats all over North Yorkshire, but this was by far the best we've stayed in. Absolutely stunning, we plan to come back next year definitely!
June 2015
This is the best holiday cottage we've ever stayed in! It was really comfortable, and the cottage has been restored with reclaimed timber which gives it a completely original feel. Everything you could need is there - the only downside is that the weather was so great that we didn't get to try out the woodburning stove!
