The Hayloft description

Holiday home
Situated on the edge of the famous village of Tolpuddle, this charming semi-detached cottage is full of character. With three en suites and a cosy open-fire with log burning stove for chillier evenings, or winter breaks, this home-from-home is able to sleep a total of six people over three double bedrooms. With patio doors opening onto the garden, visitors can enjoy al fresco dining, or just a cool glass of something refreshing on hot summer evenings, surrounded by the glorious local countryside. This is a great base for exploring all Dorset has to offer.

Just eight miles from the bustling market town of Dorchester lies the quaint little village of Tolpuddle. Surrounded by glorious countryside, this charming settlement combines a tasteful mix of modern and thatched properties and is situated by the quaintly named 'River Piddle'. Nearby, the chalk downlands provide lovely walks through the gently rolling hills and quiet country lanes. Underlying its current tranquillity though, the village has a proud history and a local museum tells the story of Tolpuddle's six famous martyrs who held the first Trade Union meeting in 1831. The area boasts a number of other attractions, such as Athelhampton House, home to Lawrence of Arabia and the lovely nearby towns of Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth. With such a wide variety of activities within easy driving distance, this lovely little location makes an excellent spot for an unusual and varied holiday.

Explore the fossils and stunning beaches of Dorset's Jurassic Coast, visit historic Sherborne and Shaftesbury, or enjoy the footpaths, country lanes and thatched-roof pubs Dorset offers.

House was warm (in January), and comfortable. Well equipped to accommodate 6 people. Lots of info about the area. Owners next door if needed, and horse training to watch, to lighten a rainy day. Definitely one to recommend..
Mrs Davidson
March 2015
The location was perfect with spectacular views. The cottage had a lovely warm and cosy ambience. Access to the enclosed garden was nice and easy for the dog we took with us - through the kitchen meant we could easily wipe muddy paws and leave no paw-prints on the carpets! The beds were very comfortable, storage was plentiful and the rooms a very decent size. The fact that all 3 bedrooms had their own en suite bathrooms was brilliant. A downstairs loo as well - the ultimate luxury for three mature ladies!
Mrs Bladen

We really loved this property. Superb location in Tolpuddle, quiet and rural. Friendly owners who lived in the adjacent property - they even brought us eggs as they had a surplus - very kind. We didn't eat out as the kitchen facilities were great. Marvellous to have a washing machine and a washing line outside. Very airy property. My husband was very happy as there was the famous Tank Museum nearby and I was even happier due to many photographic locations which were a short drive away. Would definitely stay here again.
Mr Cookson

November 2012
Our daughter loved the storage in the main room which was used as a tunnel! The setting of the property is beautiful with lots to do locally.
January 2012
The owners are very welcoming and helpful. Every bedroom is ensuite. Every room has a double bed which is a rarity. The cottage has amazing views in every direction and the stables are a nice addition to the views. The oven is huge and was excellent on Christmas day as we were able to roast a turkey and chicken whilst roasting all the veg. It's the small things that make all the difference!
Miss Rivett

The cottage was excellent. It was fantastic to find a property with just double beds. Our 2 year old loved having a big, big girl bed and the property does really suit calmer toddlers. There was a lovely big table in the kitchen that comfortably seats six. The owners were really friendly and I am hoping to stay again in the future. Thank you Sykes for making the whole process so easy. Will certainly use you again.

Fantastic view across the valley, just like an oil painting, showing the true rural history of Dorset - the scene may not have changed in one hundred and fifty years. The sun shone and Lulworth Cove was a great safe place for children to play by the sea in picturesque surroundings.

We had a wonderful holiday in Dorset. The cottage was beautifully furnished and the owners were helpful and very friendly. The cottage is the best we have stayed in. Tolpuddle is a lovely quiet village but is central to many areas, North South East and West. Our children enjoyed themselves as well and loved to watch the horses being trained and play with the owners dogs. It surpassed our expectations of a holiday.

The people we met who belonged to the property were very nice and helpful. The location was in a beautiful area, very quiet and peaceful. The dogs were very friendly and loved to be patted. The Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum was very interesting and the pub had plenty of seafood meals to offer. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, the only problem was choosing what to do as there was so much in the area.

October 2011
We really enjoyed our stay at The Hayloft. The cottage is beautifully furnished, not like a typical holiday rental quality at all. We travelled with 2 youngish children and my older mum and the cottage suited us all - having 3 ensuite loos plus a downstairs toilet was a real bonus. Just a small thing - if you're taking a telly fan, the tv has very limited channels. There is a dvd player there though and we were so busy out enjoying the area it didn't matter to us. the garden is fully enclosed and safe for the dog and we we found the whole area to be really doggy friendly - including the pub 5 mins walk away that served lovely food and the stately home (Athelhampton House) down the road. Highly recommended.
January 2014
Superb property with everything we needed and very good owners who left us alone unless we needed help One of the nicest properties we have so far rented Lovely countryside and handy to travel to all Dorset has to offer
January 2014
Second visit and hope to visit again soon. My wife who uses crutches and mother in laws who uses stick's to get around found the stairs no problem. The owners were around if you wanted them and were very helpful. Has ever thing you could want.
February 2016
The Hayloft is a tastefully decorated and well furnished cottage with lovely countryside views tucked away in a quiet spot on the edge of Tolpuddle. The cottage offers excellent self catering facilities and is in a good location for exploring Dorset. There is an enclosed child/ dog friendly garden at the rear. No local shops in the village, but there is a good pub/ restaurant (The Martyrs Inn) about 10 minutes walk away. Two of the three double bedrooms were a bit on the small side (for doubles) but perfectly okay.
