The Laggan Drey description

Holiday home
This attractive property is quite quirky because it's constructed wholly of wood and rests on the edge of a hill. This house offers some of the best views of Scotland around and you can clearly see both Ben Alder and Craig Meagaidh mountains from the property. The house is light and airy and has a double-height ceiling in the open plan living area. The open plan living area comprises of a large sitting area, fully fitted modern kitchen, eating area and an additional seating area with large windows from which you can see the Scottish mountains and stretching landscape. The property has 2 twin bedrooms, 1 double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a log stove in the sitting area and a large decked veranda.

The Cairngorms National Park is not only the United Kingdom's biggest National Park it is undoubtedly one of our most spectacular. The quiet village of Laggan is right in the middle of the Cairngorms National Park and is flanked by both the Monadhliath and Grampian mountains so it's no surprise that there are plenty of opportunities to get close to nature in this stunning part of the country. Red deer, red squirrels, golden eagles and rare Osprey all call Laggan home. For those that like to get their adrenaline pumping there's the Laggan Wolftrax bike trails close by and for those that like to take it a bit easier there's walking, fishing, bird-watching, golf, horse and pony riding and cycling.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

The Drey was absolutely wonderful! It was a great central location for day trips out in ALL directions..if you can manage to tear yourself away from the view and the wildlife antics at the house. Definitely looking forward to a return visit!

The location and view were great, as was the layout of the property with the main bedroom being at the other end of the property from the other bedrooms.

The location is stunning. The property was very light and spacious, and made the best use of the views will full length windows and balcony. The area is beautiful. There wasn't anything to dislike.

The peace and quiet, and beautiful location made this a lovely place to holiday. Ideal for walks, variety of wildlife to see, and the perfect place to come back to after a day sightseeing and relax with a glass (or 2) on the verandah. The owner who went out of her way to make us feel welcome. We cannot think of anything we did not like about the holiday.
Dr Crerar
September 2013
This is a unique building in a stunning location. The accommodation was bright and airy. Despite being open-plan with high ceilings, the house was warm. The wood burning stove was very quick to heat up, and provided wonderful extra warmth at night. The location was superb. The site is quiet with uninterrupted views, and ideally placed for explorations by car in four directions. The local forest walks are beautiful.

The situation of the property was ideal as it was a peaceful location but had facilities nearby within the village and nearby town. The Wolftrax was great to occupy a biking mad teenage son and husband. Plenty of walks close by for the dog to enjoy. Accommodation was top class and the owners were very responsive. We have already recommended the property to friends.

July 2014
The homely feel of the property and the superb balcony with an excellent view of the valley. The property was a good base to explore a wide area around the highlands and was dog friendly without making you settle for second best because you had a dog. We were able to relax after a day walking because the standard of the property was so good.
Mr Livingstone
September 2014
The place is amazing and surrounded by beautiful views. There is huge amounts of space throughout the lodge, there is a great wee family run shop just along the road that does amazing home made bread and fresh eggs. Would definitely recommend to others and hopefully be back again.

April 2010
We now understand why the Laggan Drey had to be booked so far in advance. It was beautiful - it was like borrowing someones home for a week, not hiring a house. It was a great building with outstanding views - seeing the deer in the front was magical. Great area - loads to do. Would love to go there in the summer and make use of the decking - a glass of wine watching the sun go down.
Mrs Almy
September 2009
This accommodation is exceptional, exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be visiting again. Its location is fantastic for reaching all parts of the highlands and the scenery surrounding it is superb. The highlight of the holiday was seeing stags wandering close to lane which runs in front of The Drey.
Mrs Lavell

The views, the property itself - very special due to its individualism - it was well maintained, clean and exceedingly well stocked. The personal greeting by the owner and her touches were much appreciated.

The views from the Drey are amazing. Overall a very well equipped property which is enhanced by the woodburner, which very welcome after cold and rainy days like we had. Good opportunities for cycling at Wolftrax MTB track and loads of local walking trails, as well as good restaurants in the area. We would definitely think about going back to this area and in particular The Drey.
Mr Mrs Riddle

Accommodation superb, comfortable and spacious, with wonderful views. Very well equipped not wanting in any department. Loved the idea of providing the birds with nuts, the siskins were in abundance - not seen in the south!! Good walks around the area particularly by the river and Loch Laggan.

June 2006
Excellent property with friendly and helpful owners. Good location, lots of activities easily accessible.
May 2013
The Laggan Drey is an outstanding place to spend your vacation. The Drey itself is beautiful, has everything that you would need and is very cosy with the wood burning fire going (needed for a winter visit!). The area itself is majestic in its beauty - just follow the road in front of the Drey into the mountains and witness the herds of deer to see what I mean. I can not recommend staying here highly enough - we were fortunate to enjoy a little snow while we were there which made everything even more beautiful.

December 2012
We had our family holiday here and it was our first visit to Scotland. This wonderful property had won an award for its design and it is easy to see why. All the rooms make the most of the fantastic views over the valley and it was so peaceful to sit on the balcony in the evening (before the midges arrived) with a drink and to soak up the glorious views. The cattle were often grazing in the field below and the mountains looked magnificent whatever the weather. It is well located for local walks and there is a cycling track/hire of bikes nearby too. Or alternatively it's an hours drive to Inverness, Loch Ness, Aviemore or Ben Nevis so plenty to choose from. The amenities in the house were great and there is a little store (Laggan Stores- once featured in the Monarch of the Glen) a few hundred meters away which, despite it's size, seems to stock everything in the world. We loved this place and I'd happily return again - a real home from home.
October 2012
What a wonderful time we had at The Drey! The owners had everything ready for us when we arrived (well past dark), even tea and biscuits for the morning. We loved being able to wake at our leisure, look at the map, and take off in our car. The central location of The Drey allowed us to see quite a lot of Scotland in our week long stay. The house itself was perfect for our family of five: a girl's room, a boy's room, and a parent room. We enjoyed evening fires and family games from the "stash" provided in the house. The washer, drier, and dish washer were also a plus. Our last evening at The Drey found us out on the deck looking at the most beautiful and complete rainbow we'd ever seen. It was a lovely end to a lovely trip!

Super time in a wonderful part of the Highlands. Snow made it difficult to reach but it was worth it when we got there.
August 2011
Fishing rubbish but scenery spectacular even though we had bad weather

January 2012
The cottage was set in an idyllic location, with local amenities a short walk away and an array of activities to experience within a short mileage. The cottage itself was perfect with a stunning view, particularly at dusk and dawn. Furthermore, the cottage was a lot bigger than expected. A fantastic holiday experience.
November 2010
thought the drey and surroundings were excellent, the ideal house and location will return one day soon as will my friends and family as the message has been passed along see it you must.
December 2009
This was my first trip to Scotland, and I hope not my last. Laggan Drey was beautiful as well as spectacular scenery. I can't imagine anyone staying there and not liking it. It was also close to a lot of villages that we could visit in a day so that made it even better, and of course we had several requests from home to bring something back from the distilleries. Couldn't miss that while I was in Scotland, could I?

Contact with Sykes Cottages staff was easy and friendly. On arrival at the cottage the owner met us and the welcome was great with home made shortbread waiting to be eaten with a lovely cup of tea. The home was really wonderful with everything that you needed - well above the average (and we should know)! We were not idsappointed with the location and the little shop at the bottom of the road was amazing - catering for about absolutely everything. Very friendly as well. We liked everything so what's not to like!
