The Long Barn Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
This semi-detached barn conversion, eight miles from Berwick, offers accommodation arranged all on the ground floor. The three beautifully-furnished bedrooms comprise two twins and a king-size double with en-suite. The situation is quite delightful, deep in the countryside, in a sympathetic development of four holiday properties in the hamlet of Berrington Lough. The Long Barn has been designed for the greatest possible comfort, with underfloor heating and an open-plan living area with well-equipped kitchen and dining area. The property, restored and finished to a high standard, offers spacious accommodation to suit all ages. The sitting room windows look out over stunning country views.

The coastal town of Berwick has a fascinating history. It is the most northern town in England and as such has been the subject of bitter battles over the centuries, as first English and then the Scottish sought control. In all, it changed owners 14 times before ending up south of the border. The narrow streets are, even now, protected by sturdy walls from the Elizabethan era. The townspeople are proud of the Maltings Arts Centre, which offers a hugely varied programme of music, theatre and other entertainment. Berwick also has fine shops, pubs and restaurants and families will enjoy the leisure centre with its wave pool. There is also first-rate fishing, horse-riding and golf on offer locally. The seaside town of Spittal, which boasts beautiful sandy beaches, is only two miles away and the whole Heritage Coastline is easily accessed.

Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

Love the peaceful location but also really handy for all the attractions we wanted to see. Accommodation all on one level so excellent for our toddler. Loads of space for the kids to run around, great facilities, spotlessly clean. Our second visit and we would love to come again.

The Long Barn was an absolutely fabulous property for the money. It was spacious, beautifully maintained and had all the equipment you need for a relaxed holiday. The surrounding villages are very quaint with lots of pubs for relaxed meals. The location of the Barn allows easy access to the beautiful Northumberland Coast, as well as the town of Alnwick. I can't think of any faults apart from having to come home :-( I would recommend staying here, I would come back for sure!!!!

November 2008
Everything we expected and more. We were the first people to rent The Barn so this was extra special and unspoilt in every way. The owners were very helpful and friendly and keen that they could make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Mr Uney
January 2009
The Long Barn was very well presented. The decor was contemporary but maintained a warm atmosphere sympathetic to the 'farmhouse' feel of the building. The large open plan living area meant that large groups (6 in our case plus 2 toddlers) could socialise together without en-crouching into each others space. The bathrooms were superb, and the bedrooms had a nice feel with exposed beams and large french windows. I would highly recommend The Long Barn.
Mr Mrs Skinley
February 2009
Beautiful roomy property, tastefully decorated in gorgeous rural location near to the sea. Underfloor heating throughout. Pleasant owners, very helpful.
October 2013
We booked the Long Barn for a special birthday for 6 family members. From booking through Sykes Holiday Cottages to the leaving the property at the end of our stay we were overwhelmed by the service from both company & owner, Everyone of us who stayed said exactly the same,,, "I't was much better than we anticipated", Excellent set up, beautifully presented, light & airy, welcome pack with details of how to work things & things to do & places to visit, You will need a vehicle to visit some of the stunning attractions like alnwick castle & gardens, Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses,Berwick & lots more besides,,, but if you wanted a stay of peace & tranquility? This is most Definately the place to stay to forget about life for a while. lots of space inside & out with a huge garden area, stunning views and as peaceful as anything you can imagine, you seriously cant hear a thing apart from the Bees, the odd bird & and every now & again you can hear a cow, we never saw him, just heard him Moo every so often, You are well off the beaten track with no shops or pubs for about 4 miles, which for us was bliss, we used to go to Berwick for shops & stock up the fridge. The Long Barn is huge so ideal for a large family, I would definately recommend this holiday rental & more than likely stay again. lots to do and not to do,
July 2013
One first entering one struck by the space available, but scratching below the surface left us disappointed that the owner did not seem to have his finger on the button. We found too many small failings to rate this any higher. The welcome pack consisted of 4 dishwasher tablets, a small amount of washing up liquid, a jcloth, 3 thin bin liners and a bunch of grapes. The towels were thin but clean although several had staining; there were plenty of glasses but unusual sizes with no small tumblers; the pans in the oven had mainly seen better days and need replacing; the frying pan was so poor that it necessitated the purchase of one; there was plenty of cutlery but only half the number of dessert spoons compared with the rest; the utensils were greasy; the oven needed cleaning as it was greasy so only used for heating plates; the main bathroom had a waste bin but no bath mat; the en-suite had a bath mat but no waste bin; comments had been left about the thin curtains, but no action had been taken to rectify; the freezer needed defrosting. As said, too many small faults.
December 2011
A lovely peaceful house, very well furnished. Warm, spacious, all that you would wish for. Area excellent. Nobody on site, house not at all well prepared. Garden un kept. However I would hope that this is a "One off" and would book again
September 2012
This was a brilliant choice for us; a middle-aged couple with two sets of elderly parents to amuse for a week in Northumberland. Why? Two bathrooms; in case two are caught short at once Everything nice and clean; the most important thing for anyone over 70 (my generation can cope with muck) Everything on the same level (my mam is in a wheelchair) Brilliant views Se we had a great time!
September 2012
The Long Barn was exactly as we expected from the description and photos provided and on arrival there was a welcome pack. It had everything you needed to make it a home from home holiday with the added bonus of beautiful countryside views. We were already familiar with the area so knew that we would have to travel by car for everything with the nearest supermarket being in Berwick. On saying this nothing is too far by car and well worth the journey for the wonderful beaches, walks in Berwick and local tourist attractions. The garden was brilliant and perfect for sitting out in the evening and for the dogs, the only downside to the garden was that it wasn't fully enclosed. Overall had a wonderful holiday and would return again.

December 2009
A most beautiful cottage, very tastefully decorated. Everything you could wish for. We took our daughter, son in law and three month old grand-daughter with us. The space was amazing. Located near to many of Northumberlands finest attractions and also near to the Scottish border. You could stay all day at the cottage, go for walks in the lanes or visit local areas. The only problem we initially had was finding the cottage. Must invest in a Sat Nav!!!
Miss Thomas
March 2009
Absolutely everything, we were made so welcome, the place was fantastic. Beautifully furnished with so much space. Such a peaceful location. Everything we needed and more besides. Perfect for our 2 year old son who could run around to his hearts content and play with the lovely wooden toys. We loved the open plan layout - great for spending quality family time. We were there on our honeymoon break and we will always have such lovely memories of our time there and would definitely book again.

The Long Barn is a cosy, well furnitured holidayhome in a beautiful, quiet rural scenery. A lot of interessting places can be reached in half an hour. You can also visit the scottish borders, Edinburgh and even the Highlands. All the members of the family felt like at home in the Long Barn ( parents and two teenage girls ).
April 2010
From the moment of the first request, Sykes Cottages were professional and matched our needs perfectly to find us this cottage. The cottage was large, warm, cosy and in a great location for a wide range of Northumbria attractions. Some of which were closed but it was February - we didn't get wet all week which was the added bonus to our great week away. Thanks Sykes Cottages and the Long Barn for everything.
