The Lookout Beach Cottage description

Holiday home
The Lookout is a luxury, three-storey property in Embleton. With six bedrooms, all either a double or zip/link, and all with an en-suite or access to a bathroom, it sleeps twelve people comfortably. There is also a second floor shower room, ground floor basin and WC, kitchen with dining area, first floor utility, sitting room with open fire, first floor sitting room with woodburner and a Grade II listed watch tower. Outside, there is roadside parking, a raised deck area, front patio with fire pit, and wonderful sea views. The Lookout is a fantastic luxury base for any special occasion.

The village of Embleton can be traced back to beyond medieval times and during the Wars of the Roses, it suffered much from the ravages of Scottish invaders. Today, ancient castles and ruins stand testament to Embleton's turbulent past; the Church of Holy Trinity is a late-Norman church, dating from the 12th century, later to be restored in Victorian times. Viewed from the sea, the undulating whinstone ridge that shelters much of the village from east winds, resembles a caterpillar, hence the old name 'Emeldune', meaning the hill of the caterpillar. The rolling countryside means that golfers can enjoy a good 18-hole links golf course that overlooks the beautiful Embleton Bay. Recently launched is the Embleton Heritage Trails Project, consisting of six trails, ranging from a short walk around the village, to a longer six mile route, following the spectacular coastline and inland into the tranquil countryside.

Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

The house was wonderful and having on suite bathrooms for most rooms was great. The position is stunning and the decor and facilities are excellent. The beds were comfortable and everywhere was very clean. The owner is very helpful and easy to contact if you have any questions. We were a party of ten, the house had enough space to give everyone room to enjoy themselves.

The Lookout is a wonderful place to stay. It was perfect for our group of 9 where we wanted a beautiful property in a stunning location. The house was beautifully appointed, very comfortable and had everything we needed and wanted. This is the best property we have rented over a 10 year period and we hope to return!

The holiday cottage was very close to the beautiful sea and beach. With 4 young children this was a 10 minutes plus walk but was worth it. Shops, pub and park in walking distance as well. Nice food served at the Golf Club next to the beach. Beautiful village!!

The area of Embleton was beautiful, lovely walks and beaches and the house was in a perfect position for all of this. The house was very light and roomy and was very comfortable.
April 2015
We stayed as a family group of 8 adults and 3 children, from the start we could feel the family atmosphere as we entered this superb house. As we admired the space, decor and views we came across the welcome pack in the kitchen/diner which was a very pleasant and much appreciated surprise which set the tone for a very pleasant family weekend. We had a great family meal in the large dining room where we all could be together whilst preparing in the open kitchen, the children exploring the superb well equipped bedrooms or in the games/ cinema room... Brilliant for them too! The house was so nice you could be excused for locking the door and just enjoying the whole experience inside but we didn't and walked to the nearby beach past the golf course, farmers fields with farm animals and berry picking on the way. We all will remember our stay here not just for the anniversary but the ambience of the whole package... Credit to the owners!

Fantastic property with views to die for. Marvellous house for 10 of us to stay as we were attending a wedding at Newton Hall. 6 beds and 5 baths - fantastic. The accommodation is beautiful and everything is top class. Would definitely book again - brilliant for larger parties
January 2015
Fantastic property for a large group with plenty of room for socialising and with the large kitchen catering for everyone is easy. Comfortable bedrooms with mostly en suites add to a relaxed stay. This is a great location for views, pubs and scenery and no matter what the weather you will enjoy your stay.
November 2016
Stayed with a group of 12 friends and had a wonderful long weekend. The house was immaculate with excellent decor. The facilities did not lack in any way. Lucky with the weather, we managed to explore our surroundings, managing to walk to the ruins at Dunstanburgh. We also walked to a lovely little pub (The Ship) in the other direction. Also managed to see Bamburgh Castle and visited Lindisfarne. Would highly recommend this as a venue for large family and/or friends. Would also recommend a visit to the unique Barter Books in Alnwick, you cannot fail to be impressed.

Had a great week at The Lookout. The accomodation is a very high standard throughout. The kitchen / dining area is great for big groups to get together, and the views are spectacular when cooking! Only a short walk to the lovely beach and well signposted pathways for walks along the coast. The area is also great for cycling. Our party covered ages 10-82 and there was something for everyone in the area. I would definitely recommend this property. No off road parking avilable, despite being advertised, but this didn't cause us any problems. There was always space on the raod side.

Beautiful well appointed house with stunning views towards Dunstunburgh Castle. Six bedrooms and five bathrooms so ideal for large groups with comfortable and versatile accommodation for eating and relaxing. Good communication from friendly owners. Situated in a village with a pub, hotel and within a mile of a Links Golf Course. Ideal touring area for Alnwick, Bamburgh and Lindisfarne. 20 minute drive to Alnmouth where you can catch a train to Edinburgh (60mins). Thoroughly recommended.

Set in a stunning location overlooking Dunstanburgh Castle, you open you curtains to one of the finest views in Northumberland. Nevermind the weather at this time of year as you are warmed by the cosy underfloor heating and log-burners. The property has been finished throughout to a very high standard. There is enough space for large groups to spread out and find their own spaces whether it is in the well appointed kitchen with large dining table just right for entertaining, or one of the two sitting rooms. The Lookout is tastefully furnished and decorated with calming colours. Traveling with family, we enjoyed walks down to beach and nearby Craster, via Dunstanburgh Castle. The Greys Inn, just round the corner offers a friendly welcome and serves food together with a good range of guest ales. A great base for exploring this area of Northumberland such as Holy Island, Alnwick and Bamburgh. A return visit is assured.
