The Stables description

Holiday home
The Stables is a lovely property, set on the main road near Cromford and can sleep four people. This all ground floor property has a king-size bedroom with a TV and an en-suite shower room, a twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room, as well as a kitchen and a sitting room with a dining area. Outside, there is off road parking across the main road from the cottage for two cars. The Stables is a lovely holiday base for exploring this glorious region!

The charming Peak village of Cromford is set in a wooded gorge by the River Derwent and is surrounded by tree-covered hills and cliffs. Cromford is known as the 'cradle of the Industrial Revolution' and attractions in and around the village reflect this. One of these is Cromford Mill, which has been fully restored and is now designated as a World Heritage Site. The village has three public houses and a variety of shops, however for more amenities the towns of Matlock and Matlock Bath are close by. Other attractions in the area include Gulliver's Kingdom family theme park, Chatsworth House and many more. This area has much to offer and makes a great base for a holiday.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Electric central heating. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, washing machine, TV with FreeSat, DVD, WiFi. Power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 2 cars across main road from cottage. Sorry no pets and no smoking. Shops and pubs 3 miles. Note: This cottage is situated on the A6 and parking is across this road. The Stables is very spacious, comfortable and warm. Very well provided with books and both bedrooms were most pleasant as were the en-suite facilities.

Prior to arrival we contacted the owners regarding access to the cottage. They informed they would email the code for the key safe this they did not do so we had t contact them again to receive the code. On arrival we were amazed at how busy the road was, the cottage is located on a bend which is not a problem from the car park on the opposite side of the road however when leaving the cottage to transfer items to and from the car you have to step into the road to see the traffic coming from both ways. You literally have to dash across the busy A6 with a 50mph speed limit in force. Needless to say many vehicles are doing in excess of this. The traffic noise was excessive inside the cottage in both the living room and bedrooms which are less than a metre from the road. Although we had paid for the week because of the excessive noise we left the following day to find accommodation elsewhere. No person came to meet and great us whist we were there.

Although the cottage was well situated for exploring the area, and nicely decorated there are three reasons we won't be going again. 1,We live on a main road so really didn't think it would be an issue staying on a main road, however we didn't realise that every time we went out we would be taking our lives into our own hands. The speed limit is 40mph and the cottage is on a blind bend. Not ideal if you enjoy a good night's sleep with the road a meter from the bedroom window and traffic speeding past at all hrs, including tipper trucks on there way to and from the local quarry.Wouldn't recommend for families with young children, the old or infirm. 2, Advertised as dog friendly, we had to speak to the owner a few days before we went and was told that we couldn't take our dog, I told him that we had booked because it was dog friendly so he agreed that we could take it. Not that dog friendly, we have a border terrier who loves a good run in the garden, there was no outside space and so had to risk our lives again to take the dog out after his meals and at bed time, wouldn't recommend to dog owners. 3 advertised as having wi-fi............... wouldn't recommend you book if you want wi-fi it was reminiscent of the old dial up but this wi-fi was worse, when you do pick up a signal you have to hope and pray that it doesn't drop out within 2 minutes. The cottage was well equipped with, microwave, washing machine, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and tvs in both bedrooms with free view
