The Tack Room Romantic Cottage description

Holiday home
The Tack Room is a detached, stone built cottage in the village of Middleham, 2.5 miles from Leyburn, and situated close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The cottage sleeps two people and has split level accommodation with a step up to the double bedroom and the family shower room. This cottage also has a well-equipped kitchen with dining area and a first floor sitting room. To the outside of this cottage, there is car port parking for one car and a private garden/sitting area with garden furniture. The Tack Room is perfect for a couple that wishes to explore the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Renowned for its history and race horses, the attractive Wensleydale town of Middleham is a wonderful North Yorkshire holiday location. The town's Norman castle, which dates from 1190, is second in keep size only to the Tower of London, making this a fascinating holiday spot. The centre of the town is the traditional market square, partially cobbled and offering a wide range of shops, pubs and places to eat. Another market town, Leyburn, is just a short drive away and provides a further array of great shops and pubs. The region is also host to ‘The Forbidden Corner', a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers and surprises set amidst four acres of grounds. The cathedral city of York, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales are all within easy driving distance and for some varied scenery, visitors should not overlook the stunning Heritage Coast which is nearby.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Oil central heating. Electric oven and hob, microwave, integrated fridge, automatic washer, flat screen HD TV with Freeview, DVD, music centre with iPod charger. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Sunny, private garden/sitting area with garden furniture. Car port parking for one car. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shops, pubs and village centre 3 mins walk.

March 2011
A comfortable, spacious stone cottage with a modern well equipped interior. Everything's provided and the kitchen's well equipped. Its located a few meters away from the village cobbled square with 4 bars/restaurants, a fish and chip shop and a shop. We loved the home-made food in the candlelit White Swan, as kindly recommended by the owner. A great central base for visits to Ripon, Richmond, Hawes, Bolton castle - all less than 20 miles away. In the village, enjoy watching the racehorses train, visit the castle or explore the cobbled streets local walks. If you have work to do the separate dressing room is perfect to open up the laptop. Flowers and fruit provided by the owner was a lovely touch thanks.

January 2010
We were welcomed by the owner Julia Barnet who explained how to use the central heating etc. She had left us a huge bowl of fresh fruit which kept us going for days. The accommodation was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The only problem we encountered was with the shower as the temperature was very difficult to regulate. It was a very short walk to the centre of Middleham where there was a general store, cafe, gift shop and several restaurants/pubs to eat. The racing stables dominated the village so there were plenty of horses and riders to watch if you were interested. Middleham gave us easy access to Leyburn, Bedale, Masham and many other intesting Yorkshire towns and villages. There were spectacular drives over the Yorkshire Dales to Hawes and Muker and it was ideal for keen walkers.

Mr Halford
December 2004
The town of Middleham is an excellent location to explore the Yorkshire Dales. There are many walks in the area, suitable for people of all degrees of ability. The scenery is wonderful and a real break from a city. The nearby visitor attractions include Fountains Abbey, and much of interest to anyone interested in history. As for the property itself, the Tack Room was excellent, and the garage for the car was much appreciated. There was plenty of space for the two of us, and the cottage has its own distinct character.
December 2014
We stayed in The Tack Room over the Christmas period. We arrived to a complimentary bottle of wine, Christmas pudding and cheese which was a lovely thought along with the tasteful and discreet Christmas decorations (nice touch!) The apartment was large open plan with high ceilings, tastefully decorated, enormous bath and of course....the log burner! The room was so nice we didn't want to go out! The apartment is situated within beautiful, scenic grounds. It was great to see the horses and we loved the dogs (especially little Brutus and the big guy!). It is a fantastic place to unwind and I have never seen my husband so relaxed! Well done Charlie and Emma on creating such a lovely, lovely holiday home! We will definitely be back!

October 2013
Our stay in the Tack Room started with a warm welcome from the owner, who showed us around this unusual property. It was tastefully furnished, very comfortable, and beautifully equipped with a lovely basket of fruit awaiting our arrival, which was a very thoughtful touch. Middleham proved to be an historic and interesting centre, with several places to eat, and was ideal for exploring the dales and enjoying some attractive, scenic walks. We had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing holiday.
November 2013
The Tack Room is well situated in the town of Middleham, an easy walk to the main square with with its choice of pubs to eat and drink at. (Our favourite, Richard The Third) The Tack Room is well decorated, clean and very comfortable and a great place to day trip from. The owners have thought of just about everything you would need during your stay. My only thought on what could be missing was Wi Fi . We were travelling for 7 weeks and this was the only time we did not have it, not a major inconvenience but something the owners might consider.
May 2012
I found the cottage ideal and comfortable - just what was needed after a long day hiking across the dales. Upon arrival I was met by the host who showed me around the cottage After that she left me to my own devices although she let me know that if there was anything I needed she was only in the house set further back in the grounds. A welcolming basket of fruit and vase of flowers helped me feel at home instantly. The cottage itself is a little quirky with the entrance into a well equipped kitchen/diner, followed by 3 or 4 stairs up to the bathroom and bedroom followed by 6 or 7 stairs up to the living room which was equipped with freeview TV, DVD player and music centre with iphone/ipod docking station. The layout did take me a day or two to get used to but was not a problem. The location is down a quiet lane at the edge of Middleham with racing stables at the side and opposite which although busy did not cause me any disturbance. The centre of Middleham with 4 pubs, a fish and chip shop and a chinese restaurant where within 5 minutes walking distance.
September 2012
Lovely host, cottage beautifully clean with everything you need. Location is perfect and quiet and ideal for walking. Definately will return. Thank you so much

September 2012
The Tack Room is a charming conversion of the highest standard and everything one needs is provided. The accommodation is very comfortable and the location is perfect for exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, as well as being convenient for local hostelries. The fruit and flowers left by the owner were a pleasant surprise.
December 2009
The cottage is equipped to a high standard and the owner ensures it is immaculate on your arrival. She has it stocked with extras for you to enjoy. The weather was good during our stay so we enjoyed the sunny private patio area all day. Middleham is a good central location for both walking and touring.
September 2010
The cottage was very good quality.Beautiful to see the horses every morning going down to the run.Very beautiful scenery, defenetly an area we would return to .
September 2011
This must be the best holiday retreat for two in the Yorkshire Dales. The level of cleanliness, comfort and service surpassed anything we have previously experienced.
October 2011
service 1st class cottage vey nice, washing machine provided but nowhere to dry your clothes eating places gone down hill best thing about cottage-very handy location worst thing about cottage - upstairs lounge
May 2012
The Tack Room is in the quiet village of Middleham, dominated by Richard Iii's Castle. We enjoyed shopping & Coffee in nearby Leyburn, with The Shawl giving splendid views of the valley. Other favourite places around are Masham (2 breweries & Visitor Centres), Richmond and lovely walks of all descriptions in Wensleydale and Swaledale; Northallerton a bit further & well worth a visit. Julia couldn't have been more welcoming - any problems that did arise were quickly sorted out and she is always at hand to help. The flat is very well furnished and comfortable & horses go by outside: this year was our fourth visit. The accommodation and the location have a lot to offer and we'd go again!
