Town End Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
Town End Cottage is a charming, stone-built cottage situated in the village of Witherslack in Cumbria. The cottage can sleep eight people in five bedrooms, including two king-size doubles and two twins, and there are also two shower rooms and a family bathroom. The rest of the cottage is made up of a kitchen with dining area, a utility room and a sitting room with open fire. Outside there is off road parking for three cars, and a front lawned garden with furniture. Set in a fantastic location, Town End Cottage is a traditional cottage offering a comfortable base for any family or group of friends.

The small village of Witherslack lies tucked beneath Whitbarrow Scar, in a lovely area running south east from the shores of Lake Windermere, encompassing fell, woodland and rivers. The village consists of a huddle of fine, stone built traditional houses, cottages and barn conversions surrounded by unspoilt countryside, with varied flora and fauna and a nature reserve providing beautiful walking country. Nearby Lindale has a true 'Lakeland feel' with its narrow streets, traditional dwellings and quaint old pubs, while Cartmel, with its famous annual horse race meetings, and the pretty coastal resorts of Arnside and Grange-over-Sands are all worth a visit. With Lake Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead a short drive away, this attractive village makes an inspiring choice from which to enjoy the whole of a magical area.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

The cottage lived up to all our expectations. The setting is incredible and the property is very clean and very tidy, everything you need for a home from home holiday. Anyone looking for a stunning base to explore the Lake District and surrounding area would not be disappointed by booking Town End Cottage.

I celebrated my 60th birthday with family at Town End Cottage. The cottage's location is superb and it is clean, large and very well equipped.

The small village was just lovely and so near to some of the major towns. A good village pub with welcoming staff and good food, there is also a village shop if needed. The cottage was beautiful, more than enough room and it had everything you needed and more. If we ever return to the Lake District I would definitely book this one again.

Everything was spotless and the Cottage exuded 'welcome' and 'relax'. I will definitely be back to Town End Cottage - it was everything we were looking for.

We had a wonderful time in the Cottage and we all agreed we would go there again. The location was great and we count ourselves very lucky to have been able to stay there.

A beautiful cottage which was well equipped for our group of six. The fact that everything was so lovely and clean and everything required was on hand made it a perfect place to stay.

We really enjoyed the fire and particularly enjoyed the plentiful stock of fuel and very thoughtful fire-lighting instructions. The fire was a major part of our holiday. Overall, lovely cottage and very comfortable. Thank you!

This cottage was fantastic, we were there with two other couples and we all thought the same. It was very well equipped, there were leaflets with different things to do, places to eat and booklets on walks to do. We will definitely recommend this cottage and hope to stay there again some day.

Town End Cottage is a lovely property in a beautiful location. The supply of logs and coal for the fire was much appreciated on a wet November weekend! As was the welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and wine! Hope to visit again.

Cottage was beautiful, pristinely clean, with everything practical that you would need for your stay. Beds were comfortable, rooms were warm and drying facilities were great. Plenty of storage space as well for all the wet gear. The local pub was very friendly, did not eat there, but the menu looked good and the beer was great. Again the local shop was very well stocked and had really convenient opening hours.

Town End Cottage is a beautiful, comfortable, quiet, cosy, well equipped and spacious home. The scenery around the cottage is wildly beautiful and there are some lovely local walks. Many lovely places to visit close by, for example a farm shop where you can see the cows being milked while having a scrumptious cream tea or county meal. Stately homes abound, and the local community shop is very friendly and helpful if you need advice. The cottage has many leaflets about the local area if needed. But what made the holiday was the feeling that you were staying in a home, not a holiday cottage. Such a lovely property and beautiful surroundings.

The house was perfect for our family needs, just as we'd hoped. The best house we've stayed in. Can not say enough positive things about it; we loved it. Very friendly gentleman who was very helpful and genuine. We'll definitely be booking again.

The property suited our requirements and was very well equipped. It is ideally situated for exploring the Morecambe Bay and South Lakes area.
August 2015
Lovely, homely cottage in a quiet part of town. Short car ride from the south lakes. The cottage was clean & had enough space to house all eight of us. All modern appliances made available. I would happily go back.
July 2015
Visited with my husband, brother, cousins & grandparents. Lovely, quiet location in the quiet part of the Lake District with easy access (by car or by bus) to Grange-over-Sands/Kendal/Oxenholme. Lovely & spacious property, very comfortable, more than enough space to socialise in both the lounge or kitchen-diner. Various games are in the little cupboard under the stairs if you get stuck for something to do. Clearly equipped for accommodating families - nappy bags/children's' loo seats/children's toys left in the cottage. Laundry room is very useful if you've been out for a muddy walk (there's quite a lot of both short & long walks in the area!) & although no tumble drier, washing dries pretty quickly on the racks. The only bad thing was, despite the comfortable beds, waking up every morning with an achy back despite having gone to bed feeling fine - not sure if this was due to sleeping not very well or a strange mattress. We visited the pub the Derby Arms just down the road from the cottage for a meal. We'd seen a review suggesting to book - which we did. The staff were very accommodating. It wasn't amazingly busy when we returned for our meal (would have been worth us booking if it had been a busy Saturday!), there were still a reasonable number of people in eating/drinking for it being a very rainy Monday.

Stayed here in March 2014. The cottage is in an ideal location, in the south lakes, within 10 minutes walk from the shop and pub. The cottage was imaculate, had everything we ever needed and more. It was certainly cosy of an evening, snuggled up in front of the open fire. I will definitely be booking it again.

This is a great cottage in the heart of Witherslack village ,it had everything we wanted and more ,lovely and clean and well equipped the village pub and shop is just five minutes walk away but I would advice booking your meal in advance as it gets very busy especially on a weekends the shop is a community run shop so tends to be a little expensive we did our main shopping in kendle which is about 9miles away

We immediately felt at home when we arrived. Town End Cottage was lovely and clean inside and had a well kept garden outside. The kitchen was well appointed with enough room to seat the 7 of us plus enough cutlery, glasses and crockery.
