Ty John Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
What started life as a 19th Century, stone-built barn has been lovingly converted into spectacular accommodation that would suit a large family or a group of friends. Solid oak pillars, timber framed walls and exposed beams give the cottage a wonderfully rustic feel, while the addition of modern facilities, such as a microwave and DVD player ensure that all the comforts of home are immediately at your disposal.

Located in North Wales in the Conwy Valley within the Snowdonia National Park, Rowen is a tiny hamlet comprising of pretty whitewashed cottages and stunning views. Rowen is a favourite with walkers and ramblers who explore the surrounding moorland and countryside. The Roman Road, which passes above Rowen, leads past many sites of historical interest including the Maen-y-Bardd, a megalithic burial chamber that dates back to 3,500BC. Set high on a hill, it offers some spectacular views along the valley as well as giving evidence of some of the earliest settlements in the area. A little further along you will find the standing stones of Bwlch y Ddeufaen, which carry an estimated date of around 2,000BC. Conwy, a World Heritage Site, is only a short drive away. Conwy has its own castle and Roman walls that almost completely encircle the town. Here you will find Plas Mawr, one of the best preserved medieval townhouses in the UK. As well as numerous National Trust properties, there are also stunning beaches on which to enjoy a variety of water sports, the famous Bodnant Gardens, Victorian Llandudno and the village of Betws-y-Coed, also known as ‘the Gateway to Snowdonia'.

Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

Gas central heating with woodburner. Gas cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, TV, video, DVD, stereo/CD. Fuel and power inc. in rent. Lovely, warm and comfortable cottage in a beautiful setting. Great walks from the door and a good pub in the village.

November 2014
We stayed at the Ty John property and for 6 people we had plenty of room and had a very enjoyable stay. The cottage was warm and well equipped with everything you could want. It was set in a magnificent rural location, easy to get to and peaceful but within an easy pleasant drive to nearby Conwy, Llandudno or Snowdonia area. Lots of lovely old footpaths nearby. I especially enjoyed the old Roman road passed the Yha with its Neolithic burial chamber, which has a great view of the surrounding valley. The owners were also very helpful.
Mrs Smith

We were made very welcome by the owner and his family. The setting of the cottage was idyllic, made even better by horses in an adjacent field and friendly farm dogs and cats. Our city bred grandchildren loved it. It was the ideal place to chill and an excellent spot for us to explore North Wales. We hope to return next year. We had a wonderful holiday.

August 2006
It felt like home from home because the owners supplied books, DVDs and even toys. They provided ample bedding and towels and the beds were made up on arrival. There were plenty of chairs inside and patio furniture outside.

September 2006
Beautiful scenery, very good location, hosts extremely friendly and welcoming. Particularly liked the abundance of animals, horses in next door field, kittens and a dog - it made this the perfect relaxing holiday.
Mrs Behrmann
April 2015
Ty John exceeded our expectations - the cottage is much bigger than it looks in the pictures, so plenty of room for our family and our dog, with a large lounge and dining room and large comfortable bedrooms. It's in the middle of nowhere, which is exactly what we wanted, there is something magical about waking up, opening the curtains and looking out at fields, horses and lambs. There's a small playground area with a trampoline, great for kids. There is so much to do in the area, it's hard to choose, and we filled our days with waterfall walks and castle visits, and ate and drank very well.
June 2006
The setting was fabulous so lovely and relaxing we didn't want to come home! The owners where also lovely and really welcoming, the dozen eggs on the first morning was much appreciated.
Mrs Lynch
April 2006
A beautiful house with stunning views. The owner welcomed us, but it was still quite private. Very convenient for Conwy, Llandudno and Anglesey. Groes Inn very popular eating place.

October 2016
Stayed at this very comfortable cottage for a long weekend . A little difficult to find even with directions. A lovely rural location on farm land. The owners live near by and are very friendly . My only issue was that the garden wasnt enclosed which could be a problem for some dog owners as it is open to sheep fields . Would definitely stay at Ty John again as its perfectly situated for exploring Snowdonia and various outdoor attractions.
September 2014
More and more narrow roads lead you to this farm in Wales. Spacious with an adequate number of bed- and bathrooms, nice, friendly and very helpful owners. And our grandchildren enjoyed the horses, sheep, dogs and not least the playground. Good for relaxiing, trekking, exploring Wales....
January 2014
The cottage was exactly as described, spacious, warm, comfortable and well equipped. It was in a beautiful scenic and rural situation, down narrow lanes, some way from shops etc. and so peaceful. Surrounded by fields of sheep and horses. The only issue was the description of a pub only a short walk away - it was more than a short walk to the little village. We would repeat the holiday and hope for better weather - it was autumn and very wet for our visit.
April 2013
This is a great place for walkers, cyclists and lovers of wild Wales. The mountains are literally minutes away and well off the beaten track. Conwy, Llanwrst and Rowen are a short drive away. The cottage is spacious, well prepared, clean and relaxing. The best thing is the view from the kitchen window, or the walk up to Drum.
Mrs Hall
October 2015
It was very comfortable and had plenty of room. We would recommend and would stay here again.
Ms Groom
June 2016
Ty John is a beautiful place to stay, countryside surroundings and views brilliant. The owner was very pleasant, Dog friendly pub a nice walk away. Luckily, we were blessed with lovely sunny weather. Hopefully we will be going back next year
October 2012
The house welcomed us, and so did the owners. Very warm welcome, and happy to help us out with our questions. It was great to sit outside and view the hills, the green trees and meadows and hear the silence. It's a good location for seeing North-Wales. Walks can be made from the doorstep. The Dutch Pancakehouse in Rowen and the pub were great extra's to our stay. We loved Conwy as our nearest city - for shops, food and drinks, and the castle, music and more. Llandudno was a treat in itself, so was Great Orme. The cottage was spacious and all necessities were there. There was a great high table to work on, but also a relaxing couch ... so watching television or a DVD was good. Several books and Dvd's were there to use. Again - owners were very very helpful and friendly. We hope to be back soon ...
October 2012
From the minute we walked into the cottage and my daughter said "Oh, this is nice" we knew we were going to love Ty John. We were 4 adults and twin babies and there was plenty of room. All of the rooms were comfortable and the lounge and dining room in particular were full of character. The cottage is set in beautiful countryside, with horses and sheep in the adjoining field and is ideally situated for visiting the nearby tourist spots. The owners were very friendly and available if needed. The only faults are the difficulty in finding the cottage in the first place; better directions are definitely needed and the cleaners were rather pushy and not overly friendly on the day we left.
September 2011
Difficult to find at first could have been sign posted better but views stunning peaceful and tranquil.
October 2011
ideal family young children perfect location freindly and helpful

December 2009
The cottage was big enough to accomodate six of us comfortably, was well equipped, and was beautifully situated for exploring the area around the Snowden Valley. We felt we were visiting friends as we were made so welcome. Our grandchildren loved being able to stroke the horses, the cats and the dogs. Hopefully we shall return for a further visit some time. Our one criticism was that we had geat difficulty finding the cottage in Rowen as there was nothing to indicate where it actually was and we had to ask directions a couple of times but otherwise it was a wonderful holiday.
