Holiday home
In the small hamlet of Tatham on the rural outskirts of Bentham lies this stunning property - an outstanding, semi-detached stone barn conversion just eight miles from Kirkby Lonsdale. Set in the grounds of the owner's farmhouse, this pretty property has been lovingly restored to incorporate attractive period features and practical modern fixtures. There is also a well-equipped kitchen with dining area as well as a lovely lounge with wood-burning stove and French windows to the patio, ideal for outdoor eating, or relaxing in the sun.

High above the traditional Yorkshire market town of Bentham, the tiny hamlet of Tatham sits on the edge of Burnmoor overlooking The Great Stone of Fourstones - an Ice Age relic which marks the boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire. This ancient monument has become a distinctive feature of the landscape boasting spectacular views over the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland - a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Excellent walking and cycling routes cross all three of these stunning areas, whilst nearby Bentham boasts a range of amenities and a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. The market towns of Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Skipton and Kendal are all within easy driving and are well worth visiting making this an exceptional destination no matter what time of year.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

August 2012
This cottage was perfect in every way and we will return next year. The setting was perfect with the views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and you really felt you were away from it all. The cottage itself felt so very comfortable and we did not feel like we were only guests. Every detail had been considered. Charlie our Beagle loved it too and with walks from the door it was again perfect for her. Although there was just the two of us and the dog, the cottage did not feel too big and because the cottage is very good value it felt like luxury but not with a huge price tag. Excellent - see you again soon.
Mr Nuttall

July 2011
Stunning location, most amazing views and a really well appointed property. If you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all and relax in beautiful surroundings you couldn't want for more! A great base for touring the lakes or the dales or simply enjoy the local wildlife including the wallabies and little owl! Take grapes and bananas to feed the wallabies and like us you will have them eating out of your hands! Go enjoy - explore and see how exceptionally good this barn is! We don't go back to many place but we will most certainly visit again!
Mrs Cooper
November 2010

Mrs Davies
December 2010
Usherwoods Barn was a fabulous holiday cottage (and we have stayed in many) and the owners were thoroughly nice people, who really cared that we enjoyed our holiday. The cottage was so nice that we really did not want to leave it, the views and walks from the door were fantastic! It really is a great location for exploring both the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales. It's a spacious barn, but cosy at the same time and the underfloor heating meant that we were really comfortable inside, while it was minus 10 (or lower) outside! The kids absolutely loved it all, especially feeding the wallabies every morning (so if you go, take some banana skins and grape stalks!) I would tell anyone that they should not hesitate to book this property - you won't be disappointed.
March 2011
The area was outstanding, Usherwoods Barn gave us the opportunity to visit some stunning locations. The Barn was of an extremely high standard, everything had been thought of by the owners. Words really cannot describe our stay there. Fantastic! We will stay there again.
March 2011
Everything was absolutely fantastic and I would recommend Usherwoods Barn to anyone, in fact I have already done so to many of my friends. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful, it was a pleasure to see her every now and again for a lovely chat. The position of The Barn was marvellous, with breathtaking views everywhere you looked. It was in the perfect position to visit many of the areas, well known beauty spots and wonderful walks. Usherwoods Barn was gorgeous inside and superbly kitted out. The wallabies were particularly sweet and fascinating to watch. We shall never forget our stay there and will definitely be returning in the future. One of the best places we have ever stayed. Very, very special.

We all had a brilliant week at Usherwoods, and would love to return one day.

Isolated location was not painfully remote. Accommodation was obviously finished to a very high standard. Our hosts - in the adjoining property - were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. There was ample space on the premises, and the physically impaired member of our party was not restricted in any way.

Mrs Till
June 2007
We had a fantastic holiday at Usherwoods. There are so many good points. The views from the house and garden are unbeatable (dont miss the sunsets!). The standard of fixtures and fittings are the best we have experienced in many years of English self catering cottages. The bathrooms are works of art which I would happily have in my own house. The owners are lovely and very helpful but totally unobtrusive. The surrounding villages and countryside are beautiful with far too much to see and do in one holiday and yet in half term week we felt as though we were the only holidaymakers in the area, which is why we will definitely be back!
November 2015
Set on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, this property offers first class accommodation with all the comforts of home. Dogs are welcome and have the advantage of a secure garden as well as easy access to open countryside. The property provides a cosy return after your day of visiting local attractions ( we stayed in November), is exceptionally spacious, and has been well maintained. The owners were most welcoming and live on site but provide with you complete privacy during your stay. We would highly recommend this property as a base for exploring Lancashire and the South Lakes.
May 2016
The property was beautifully cared for, quiet and the owners were especially kind. The location is perfect for exploring Lancashire and the North Yorkshire Dales. Hadrian's Wall and a bit of Scotland are just a little drive away. There are ample opportunities for hiking and the local village, High Bentham, has great pubs, two grocery stores, a butcher, bakery and even has an Indian takeaway. The home itself is very spacious and well appointed. There are many conveniences in the home that we greatly appreciated. Would definitely give this home a legitimate five stars! Oh, yes, - the resident wallabies were an extra bonus, so cute!
Mrs Fletcher
January 2007
Excellent cottage, like a home from home, couldn't ask for anything more. Hospitality was welcoming, nothing was a problem for the owners. Beautiful cottage and gorgeous location!
January 2013
We had a wonderful week staying at Usherwoods barn. It was much larger than we had expected and had been finished and equipped to a high standard. The underfloor heating works very well and it was lovely to sit in front of the log burner in the evening. It isn't often that holiday accommodation exceeds your expectations but this certainly did. The owners were friendly and very helpful and it is in a great location. Pet friendly too. We hope to go back again.
September 2016
We stayed here for one week during August, it was a truly wonderful place, tranquil and beautifully appointed, my children didn't want to leave. Comfortable clean, crisp beds, everything I needed in the kitchen, open fire, comfortable settees. The garden felt very safe for my little doggie, and the views and sunsets were amazing. The resident wallabies are beautiful creatures and we could feed them banana skins as the owner suggested. The girls rode bikes and had freedom. The owners were there but were unobtrusive, and couldn't have been more helpful.
September 2011
A wonderful location and an equally great property. The owners were charming and we fell in love with the wallaby s.
September 2012
The cottage was very well equipped and tastefully decorated. Excellent views of the countryside. More than home from home. 3 of us stayed and had a settee each to relax each evening after days spent walking and touring the local area. Really nice welcome pack of tea, coffee and milk etc.and very friendly owners. Nothing not to like.
December 2012
We had a really good holiday at Usherwoods Barn it is really lovely and comfortable the owners were great the views from the garden are to die for and location is stunning. The only problem that we had is with the twin bedded room it is very comfy but no wardrobe plenty of draws, thought that perhaps a single wardrobe would fit on the landing which is very big, I would return and enjoy the wonderful cooker and large kitchen
September 2010
We enjoyed our stay in this beautifully furnished, comfortable, well cared for and equipped cottage, even though the weather let us down!
January 2014
This beautiful property was in a magnificent location with views to match, but within easy driving distance of the nearest town. The property was beautifully furnished and all the fittings were top notch, and the welcome was second to none. We had a wonderful stay and the wallabies kept on the farm were a delight for children to feed. The surrounding area has many places of interest to visit, and going out for walks or staying in and playing games made this property a great spot to stay for so many reasons.
September 2011
We booked our holiday rental through Sykes Cottages, whom couldn't have been more helpful. Key arrangements were made directly with the owner, whom again couldn't have been more helpful. The cottage was beautiful, clean and high spec. Very spacious. Met all our needs and more, restful, comfortable, and close to lots of attractions. We will certainly be back.
November 2010
Lovely cottage with excellent facilities and great views. The room configuration worked well for our Family (with couple of grandparents plus 1 dog as well). Plenty to see nearby - we never went more than 30 minutes all week. Lovely walks even from the cottage itself.
December 2009
The people who owned the house were a lovely, they greeted us on arrival, showed us how things worked like the cooker etc, because at the last minute we had to take my granson with us who was only 4yrs old, and they maid him so welcome. The house was beautifull with everything you needed, my granson loved the animals in the garden and surrounding areas. It was remote and peaceful with lovely scenery yet only a short drive to the village.
December 2009
Fantastic place to stay .Very comfortable , everything you need for a great holiday .Perfect surroundings .A great place to stay .
February 2010
We spent a very snowbound Christmas at Usherwoods Barn, but I can't think of a more warm, comfortable and well-equipped place to be stranded. The owners were friendly and helpful, the views were spectacular and the location is a perfect jumping off spot for The Dales, Lancashire and Cumbria. I would highly recommend it.
December 2009
A drive through winding country lanes was well rewarded on finding our Sykes Cottage at Usherwoods Barn. The cottage was very well appointed, warm and inviting especially as we were to have snow in a day or two. The nearby owners were very welcoming and helpful and always available. There are loads of walks in the area, and as the weather turned snowy, we were glad to find some without using the car. Overall a lovely holiday in a lovely cottage in a lovely part of the world. Perfection!
December 2009
We had an enjoyable stay in a lovely cottage notwitstanding the poor weather. The owners were friendly and helpful, the cottage was very well appointed and comfortable. A good location from which to explore the region.
