West Cawlow Barn is beautifully comfortable and delightfully clean. It is perfectly located at the top of the Manifold Trail and makes a fantastic base from which to explore many parts of the White Peak area. Our three children had the freedom of the garden and experienced a brilliant outdoors holiday while having the comforts of a warm barn, comfortable sofa's and TV/DVD facilities at the end of a long tiring day. The owners are friendly and welcoming. A huge thank you.

September 2015
My parents rented the barn for their Golden Wedding anniversary. They stayed all week and we stayed for 2 nights at the end of the week. The barn is just outside the village of Hulme End and is a great place to stay. Often when you stay in places that sleep 5 or 6, it can be a bit of a squash and as much as I love my parents, I'm a bit too old to sit on their knee! However all the rooms here were lovely and spacious so it was a great place to stay for a few days. The living room is lovely and light, with a TV and DVD player, the kitchen is very roomy with a nice big table, the 3 bedrooms are all of a decent size and the 2 full bathrooms (both with bath and shower) is a great touch when you have several people staying together. The decor may be a little dated, but perfectly acceptable and it is immaculately clean. Would have no hesitation in recommending this to anybody who was looking for a rental in the area.
June 2010

Overall standard was a level above basic (by today's self catering standards) however a very nice location and close to a popular walk. The house was clean and warm and had plenty of heating - gas, on-demand and storage - though some bedding felt a bit thin for November and no extra blankets on offer. Some instructions for gas appliances would have been good to save time, for those of us not used to them on a regular basis. Kitchenware was minimal and some essentials eg tea/coffee, loo roll were short - only costs a few extra pounds to provide ample of these. Furnishings a bit dated circa 1980s, could do with interior upgrade and re-invention as a really traditional-feeling farmhouse! Security deposit method a bit cumbersome. Should be noted that there is no wi-fi OR mobile reception (Vodafone at least) here - trip to the top of the hill needed for mobile calls! Excellent value for what we paid for six people though.
May 2010
Overall this cottage represented good value for money, and I can recommend it on that account. On the good side, the furnishings were quite new and of reasonable quality, both in the living room and in the bedrooms. On the downside: - The diswasher was too small and too underpowered. It didn't get the crocks clean; many of the plates and glasses etc were just slightly dirty when we arrived; we washed a lot by hand - and left the kitchen a whole lot cleaner than when we arrived! - The showers were feeble - The bathrooms generally were cold - you had to turn on a fan heater to warm them up, which was noisy and took time to work; also towels just didn't get dry. - Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the attitude of the owners wasn't pleasant. There was no welcome pack - for instance, other cottages we have rented have provided a few teabags, sachets of sugar, etc to get you started. And although we left the kitchen spotless, they actually wrote to me to complain that we hadn't emptied the diswasher before leaving!!!

West Cawlow Barn is excellently situated within the southern part of the White Peak. If you like walking and hiking, there are two superb walks starting right in front of the house. But the best is yet to come; our hosts were exceptionally friendly and helpful and really took care of us! We had a wonderful time and given the chance we would surely will return.
Mr Anthoney
September 2015
Everything in the Barn was first rate, with plenty of space for five adults. It couldn't have been cleaner and there was a very warm welcome from the owner as we arrived. The local pub had excellent food and the village was situated in a good position to tour around the Peak District.
