Willow Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Willow Cottage is a stone built house in an elevated hillside position about one mile from the village of Giggleswick close to Settle, on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. With one double room, two twin bedrooms and a family bathroom, this cottage can sleep six people. The rest of the accommodation is made up of a fitted kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with a fireplace and a woodburning stove. Outside the cottage are a shared garden and a private patio with outdoor furniture, as well as plenty of off road parking. With two other cottages on site, Willow Cottage can sleep sixteen people making it suitable for large family groups who want to explore this beautiful part of the country.

Situated below a limestone scar on the Craven fault, the delightful Ribblesdale village of Giggleswick is just across the river from the bustling market town of Settle. Packed with a host of 17th Century houses and cottages, the village is centred around the beautiful St Alkelda's church – a 12th Century construction – and the domed chapel of the famous Giggleswick School – a building which dominates the local skyline. The village of Giggleswick itself has a few small shops and pubs, though the nearby market town of Settle is within easy walking distance and offers a wide range of amenities. Ingleton is also close by and is home to an excellent walking circuit that takes in many of the area's spectacular waterfalls. For more experienced walkers, the stunning ‘Three Peaks' are close by.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Electric storage heaters with woodburning stove in sitting room (1 bag of fuel inc. in rent). Electric cooker, microwave, fridge, automatic washer/dryer, TV, DVD, CD player. Electricity inc. in rent. Bed linen inc. in rent. Cot and highchair available. Large garden (shared with property refs 398 & 993) and private patio with garden furniture. Ample off road parking. Two well-behaved dogs welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 1 mile.

A wonderful warm welcome from the owner. The cottage included everything including tea, coffee, sugar everything you require in a home. Fabulous views, wonderful garden, excellent local walks, very good local pubs and food, particularly Black Horse in Giggleswick and Wheatsheaf in Ingleton. Recommend Ingleton Falls, Malham Walk and Grassington Riverside Walk.

This was our second visit to Willow Cottage - still excellent.
Mr Wilson
December 2004
On the first morning we were woken at dawn, as usual, by our children. Drawing back the curtains, we looked down the valley toward Settle. A white cotton wool cloud was just below us, obscuring the view of the town but not the sides of the valley or the hills beyond. The clouds in the distance were saturated with brilliant red light. Unforgettable.
Mrs Clarkson
December 2004
The location of the cottage is absolutely beautiful with lots of things to do nearby. The owners are extremely pleasant and helpful and the cottage is delightful. The children really enjoyed a trip to nearby Skipton Castle.

July 2013
Beautiful cottage in peaceful surroundings.Fantastic views down the valley and so quiet Everything we needed in the cottage and very pet friendly Easy to get to every where we wanted to go The owner lives on site and very helpful
May 2015
The cottage was very clean and comfortable. The views from the back patio were amazing and we had a really good week there. We were a bit apprehensive, as we booked it because it allows dogs, and we wondered if this would affect the condition but we were pleasantly surprised. You would never know dogs had been in. The walk into the village is not straight forward as it lies just off a main road with no pavements, so you have to be willing to walk across the road and make your way via the paths and fields. This is lovely if you're better at finding your way than we were. As far as we could tell it was about a 2 mile walk into Giggleswick village by this route. Giggleswick itself is a great little village and worth a visit. The one major downside to this cottage and the 2 others on site is that it is accessed from a dual carriageway main road and the property lies just over the brow of the hill so you cannot see what is coming up the hill at 60 mph until they are on top of you, particularly when exiting the properties. The owner gave us advice about how to mitigate this but it was still very dangerous and I would not be surprised if there was an accident at some time. I have tried to show this in my photos.
Mr D'Arcy
December 2004
On arrival your help with local information was appreciated. The location is stunning and relaxing, the view from the patio is beautiful, the garden and facilities were clean and usable and provided hours of fun. The local bar meals are very good value for money and the staff are friendly and polite.
Mrs Harris
December 2004
The cottage is excellently situated for walking, without the need to have to drive anywhere to start.
Mrs Hill
December 2004
It is situated so that many areas of the Dales are very accessible with a town close by for all shopping needs-yet you are surrounded by beautiful scenery and views.
Mrs Shepherd
December 2004
Excellent accommodation in lovely setting. Black Horse in Giggleswick has good atmosphere and great food. Will definitely go back to both!
Dr Jones
December 2004
The Forbidden Corner was an excellent day out
June 2013
views from the windows were super, lovely walks from front door, no steps so very suitable for my disabled husband, perfectly clean with lovely bedding. When we had a problem with the heating it was resolved quickly and the service received from owners and cleaners was superb. we will return sometime it was so good.highly recommended, thank you. the snow was a bonus.
Mr Fitzsimons
December 2004
The garden is great for young children & there was some good walking from the house.
July 2013
In spite of poor weather, we had a great week, thanks to the comfort of the cottage. The photograph on the website is of the back of the whole property. The front door faces a courtyard with another holiday cottage opposite. A third, two story cottage is lower down attached to our accommodation. Neither of these facts in any way interfered with us. The kitchen is very well equipped and all the rooms are spacious with plenty of daylight. The view down the valley towards Giggleswick and Settle is great. There is everything you need in the way of shops and a supermarket in Settle and some good pubs in the surrounding countryside. It is good walking country. The lady of the house will tell you much about it should you need information. The only drawback is the access from the property onto the road. The traffic travels fairly fast and the road is not visible for very far to the right especially, and to the left to a lesser extent. The owners will help you with the best way out of the property. You just have to be very careful. A small price to pay for such good accomodation
September 2011
Service was good, we received an extra chair when we asked for one. The cottage was cosy and well equiped, though a little poor on chairs (only very soft couches: killing for your back!) It was very clean! The location is fine, we loved the surroundings. Malham cove is very nearby and wellworth visiting.
November 2010
We had a lovely holiday. The owners were quick to provide information, bar-b-q and other bits that helped our holiday.set in beautiful scenery with walks right on the doorstep.
March 2011
Nice cottage, comfortable bedrooms, but not enough plates, cutlery etc for 6 people. Only enough comfortable settees/chairs for 4 adults! We found some lovely walks that set off from the cottage
December 2009
Lovely clean well-equipped cottage close to Giggleswick and Settle. Well furnished with everything you could need in the kitchen. Very useful sheltered portico to unload wet clothes. Friendly helpful owners and lots of good amenities and walking nearby. This is an excellent holiday base and my review has to be 99% positive. If I were pressed for the other 1% I'd mention that the private drive is a fairly short run from a busy main road and while the cottage is nice and quite, I'd be worried about leaving small children outside unsupervised. All in all though, one of the best.
February 2010
Cottage was homely and had good views across the valley. Dogs were welcome which was a plus point for us. Radiator in double bedroom didn't work and it was cold in the morning. Food and drink at the local pubs was good, they had a relaxed atmosphere and staff were friendly and welcoming. Fantastic walks starting just over the road.
