We found that the garden was in excellent condition, very spacious which is what you need when holidaying with a dog. The views were spectacular from the front windows of the property and from just outside were just totally incredible, with panoramic vistas all along the Solway Firth. A very well situated base to see and do things in this area. The owner was very friendly and couldn't do enough for us on the day of our arrival. We very highly recommended this property.

We stayed at Yellow Gates with our adventurous two year old. The outside space was perfect for us, especially the safe enclosed garden. We had fantastic weather and ate outside on the patio every day. The kitchen was especially well equipped. The area offers so much peace and quiet whilst being well linked to Dumfries and the coastal areas. The surrounding countryside and beach on our doorstep are also a major plus for us. The Inn at the end of the street was welcoming and served good pub grub.

We had a very quiet relaxing week. A superb location just across from the beach with a pub serving great meals just down the road. The cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed. The garden was really dog friendly, also with a table and chairs for humans in a perfect little sun trap.

Very enjoyable and relaxing with all the things one needs. Scenery was great and locals friendly, local pub was very good with a warm atmosphere and excellent food. Cottage was very clean and well provisioned and Rob the owner is a very nice chap. So good we have booked it again in mid summer for 2 weeks!

We had a wonderful week, the owner gave us a warm welcome on our arrival and there was tea, coffee, milk and biscuits for our use. The cottage was well equipped and we never needed anything. It was a short walk to the local pub where the food was first class.

Yellow Gates was cosy and very comfortable with very nice beds, slept wonderfully. Ideally located for some really great days out and a brilliant pub. The Steamboat was a minutes walk away. Fabulous holiday, didn't want to leave!

The owner was extremely considerate and helpful - he was concerned that all should go well - and it did! The spaciousness, layout, location all contributed to a most relaxing holiday and we will be very happy if we are able to go again, any time of year.

Stayed at Yellow gates cottage for a short break last month. Lovely cosy cottage with one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in away from home. great wifi which was a bonus. Only downside which I must admit is slightly picky of me was the small leather sofa suite in the living room (2 small armchairs and a small 2 seat sofa) in which I struggled to get comfortable unless i had the 2 seat sofa, having said this it would not prevent me from returning to the cottage . All mod cons and very well equipped kitchen (washing machine, dryer and dishwasher inc.) in which I had all the intentions of cooking, however we were tempted to eat out on more than a couple of occasions at the Railway Inn which served up good food, hospitality and accepted dogs. The beach (on your doorstep) was a bit messy due to the recent storms but this was to be expected, take short walk further down the road when the tide was out and you had a great stretch of beach for walking. Tip: the bus stop at the end of the road has details of local footpaths which we did not find until our last day. New Abbey is a lovely place to visit with an excellent coffee shop. If peace and tranquillity you are after in a lovely cottage I would not hesitate to recommend yellow gates cottage.
